Underrated and overlooked. . .check out his work in the Kansas City Star. If he worked on the east coast, he'd be a star. As it is, he is a classic midwest sportswriter.

Whitlock is aging very well. Writes thought-provoking columns. . .isn't afraid of topical issues. . .and knows sports. Sad shame ESPN didn't want someone who wrote edgy sports columns working for them.

I've always liked what Whitlock has to write. He isn't afraid to take an unpopular stance, and I feel that he does this in a way that is insightful rather than just inflammatory. The man isn't racist...he just states things as they are. One of the problems with our society is that people are afraid to hear others talk about race without sugar coating things. Whitlock definitely has my respect as a journalist, and I respect him for what he has done in his career. The man had the balls to walk away from ESPN, which most sports journalists refuse to do these days.

Re: Jason's racial reading of Basket-Brawl. I believe racism makes people crazy, blinding their ability to read people and situations. For them, everything's a big, racial Rorschach test. Look at Basket-brawl again, Jason. There is a whole world beyond color.
