 | magellan (179) 01/28/2007 | This is an amazing movie. Arthur and William are two really likable kids, and i found myself just wishing that they would hit the books has hard as they hit the basketball court. With so much riding on getting an ACT score of 18, it was really frustrating to see such a talented, bright kid like Arthur end up at Mineral Area Community College when he could have written his own ticket. But then again, he could have gone the route of his best friend and ended up in jail.
Even more than the basketball parts, it was unbelievably eye opening to see the environments that these kids have to break free of to make it. Drug using parents, violent projects as homes, kids having kids, hold ups, schools with no money. The odds are unbelievably stacked against all but the most talented, and even those, as we see in the movie, need a bit of luck.
One of the movie's young stars, William, gets disillusioned by hoops as the movie goes on. It stops being fun for him, and he starts to value time with his daughter and girlfriend over anything that happens on the bball court. In a touching moment, he recounts how everybody around him has always said "remember us when you get to the NBA." Pausing, he looks at the camera and says, "What I should have told them was to remember me when I don't get there."

As far as the flick itself - it's great. Did not want it to end. I wanted to keep following them after their high school days. I thought Arthur had more potential as far as skill, but was more raw. A little polish and he could've been awesome. Of course he never had the chance though.
