The stores are always clean and well kept. The variety of goods and the quality of produce are both excellent.

I have shopped at Harris Teeters while on vacation so was excited about one coming to my neighborhood.

The reality was not so exciting. The prices for a lot of things are too high. And they have decided to 'rethink' the old fashioned conveyor belt check out for a scrawny little turntable device which squashes your hard goods and soft goods all together in a clump and makes it impossible to tell which side of the cashier is the line you are getting into.

I find that I hate shopping there now, and only go for a few specific items, then get the heck out.

The food is overpriced, the cashiers are at times gruff, customers are frantic bump into you without care. It's great for a teen shopping experience.

HT had two stores in decidedly upscale neighborhoods in Jacksonville FL -- Mandarin and Ponte Vedra. Both are now closed because Publix out-competed them on service, and of course price. I love HT stores, but don't like their attitude that all they have to do is find a rich neighborhood. The same attitude is destroying Whole Foods and Wild Oats.

I have been an employee of Harris Teeter for nearly 7 years. They are a great company to work for. Their main goal is not to increase sales, but to increase customer satisfaction. Money is not what motivates HT. It is that "something extra" that makes us different from other grocery stores. Yeah, you can find meat and produce at any grocery store. But Harris Teeter is so confident that you like our products, that we will double your money back if you aren't satisfied. I know Food Lion and Kroger don't stand behind their products that strongly. Not only does Harris teeter offer top of the line products, but we make sure that every customer is taken special care of. You should never wait more than a minute or two in line to check out. You should never have to bag your own groceries. It is the little things that matter, like when we take your groceries out to your car for you. This is what keeps Harris Teeter a cut above other grocery stores. Try getting some kid at Food Lion to automatically carryout your groceries and load them into your car without expecting a tip. That'll never happen. Harris Teeter is one of the best grocery stores in the Southeast. I hope that one day people all over the US will proudly carry their VIC card in their wallet.

Very clean store with employees that professional and friendly. Anytime I've had a problem (couldn't find a product, asking if they accept competitors coupons, returning item that was recalled) they've been helpful and kind.

Another bonus is that the store I shop in actually has heating vents in the isles of the frozen food section. Now my kids don't complain that they're cold when I'm shopping in that area.

They always offer to take my groceries out and ask if I found everything. One a few occasions I've needed rain checks and the cashier was more than happy to be sure I got those before I left the store.

There was a few times when a cashier has pointed out that there was a display up with coupons on it that I might be able to use.

There is a big difference between the caliber cashier of Harris Teeter and those of other grocery stores. At Harris Teeter, I haven't run into any young cashiers that are more interested in yelling across the store at their friends and goofing off with the bagger. The young cashiers I've used at Harris Teeter are super to deal with and do their job like people that are use to responsibility. I'm always impressed.

Customer service, store cleanliness and friendly employees go a long way with me now a days. I shop mostly at Harris Teeter now even though I have to drive out of my way to get there.

If you have a store that isn't top notch, then write the corporate office and tell them. I wrote to compliment the store I shop at because they truely do stand apart from the other grocery stores here. As a stay at home mom, I've shopped them all.

Oooooo, I only got to suckle from the hairy teat once, but it was sweet as could be. I love fancy groceries like this, with their bakeries, their fantastic drink selection, and their lovely produce.

I was a Harris Teeter employee before I moved out of their area and I wish I could find another employer as terrific as Harris Teeter. I now work for Krogers and they are the absolute worst grocery chain to work for, and I have worked for several.

I somehow keep making the mistake of shopping at Harris Teeter every now and then, hoping it will get better, but it never does. It is a nice, clean store - but no more than Kroger across the street, where you can find MANY items at HALF the cost. I am not exaggerating. I'm not too thrilled with the particular staff at the one near my house, but I'm sure it's different depending on the store.
However, I do have to say that I prefer their meats to Kroger's...

All around better quality food than most. But the prices are definitedly higher. I hate the nonsense of prefer customer cards. And they don't really care if you shop there because they make you wait an inordinate amount of time at the grocery line. So, if you are picking up things that eveybody carries, you can get them cheaper elsewhere and come be out of the store quicker.

I've only been to one Harris Teeter, but it got me through the summer that I lived in Washington D.C. The prices were a little on the high side, but they had a good selection, and it was also the only grocery store worth going to that I could find.

One is opening soon in walking distance to my apartment--I can't wait. This is a very good chain--service is always top-notch, food quality is great, and the selection is just as good as Safeway or Giant or Food Lion.
You need to join their "VIP" program (free store membership) to really get the good deals, however.

Excellent stores! There is a nice mix of upscale gourmet and popular items. I can choose either to splurge, or spend no more than if I were shopping at a local Giant or Safeway store. They usually have good sale items as well. I'm trying to convince them to open a store closer to my house. As far as the rater who compared them to Wegmans, puhlease! Wegmans is simply Costco for the Land Rover set.

Harris Teeter is generally a wonderful place to shop. Yes, they tend to be a bit more expensive on some items, but what you get in return is clean, wide aisles, friendly checkers and managers, and more often than not an unsolicited offer to take your order to your car for you. Despite being upscale, great deals are easily obtainable here as well. Being the only chain in Nashville that doubles manufacturers' coupons up to $0.99, and twice a year has triple coupon weekends. Yes, you can spend a fortune here on gourmet items, but I can affordably shop here regularly for the basics for three people on an income south of $20K. Only once, in 4 years so far, did I have a bad customer service experience, and calling them about the incident brought a prompt and more than satisfactory resolution to the issue. Whereas other stores *cough*Kroger*cough* haven't given me more than an automated response to numerous complaints. The only minor complaint now is that they've reduced their hours from 24/7 to 6am-Midnight which doesn't mesh well with my 2nd shift job. But I make the time to drive 4 miles to go there instead of that other store that is directly across the street from me and open 24/7.

Probably the best grocery store. I used to work here. They cater mainly to higher income folks and are usually in upscale neighborhoods. The Harris Teeters are large, nice and clean. Their selection is immense.

I'm feeling generous, so I give them a four. They have nice things, for the most part, but they are wildly overpriced. I hope they are paying their employees well and giving lots of benefits. They should be, at the prices they charge.

Harris Teeter is a fabulous chain. The stores are clean, the staff are efficient and friendly. When I'm in North Carolina,it's where I shop. They have everything that I need.

Harris Teeter is an upscale grocery chain that is located in the Southeast. Though the consumer pays a premium, more often than not the extra cost is worth the clean stores, service, quality and selection.

The people that work at my harris teeter know me and treat me like a person, and that is what is missing in every other grocery store, they make an effort to tell me tell me what is on sale, and sometimes what is going to be on sale, and will ask to help me when I'm looking for something, and tell me about what I'm looking for. They are speacial.
