 | Randyman (109) 04/23/2005 | The one fight I can't even bring myself to discuss. Difficult fight to watch if you were a Duran fan, which I was and still am. I'll give Leonard his due though, I wouldn't be true to the sport I love, if I didn't. But I don't have to like it, lol.

 | TheEvilSaintEvan (0) 06/01/2004 | regardless of how out of shape duran wus, leonard thrashed duran throughout the entire fight. as fat as he wus, duran shouldnt have quit in the middle of the round. maybe near the end or on his stool. 1 second he has his gloves up and is in a fighting stance. a second later hes walking away, with his head down, waving his arm away, and saying no mas. it doesnt matter if he wus outclassed or out of shape, REAL CHAMPIONS DONT QUIT IN THE MIDDLE OF A GODDAM FIGHT!!! duran had the option of being knocked out or lose a decision like any fighter with heart would do. but no! he decided to quit the fight like a sissy rather than legitimatly lose the title and have the opportunity to say i tried my hardest rather than i quit like a loser. how can anyone call roberto duran a champion after a disaster like this?

 | Roy_Freddy (0) 03/22/2004 | This fight could have been as great or even greater than their first fight but Duran's manager, not Duran, screwed up by signing him to fight too soon. Carlos Eleta should have looked out for Duran's interests and allowed him the time needed to train properly like Duran did in the first fight where he was in excellent physical condition and was focussed. Eleta became blinded by the 8 million dollars that Mike Trainer put on the table. Trainer, Leonard's lawyer, offered the money only if Duran would fight a quick rematch. Leonard and his people were watching Duran and knew that he was as fat as a cow and was not focussed. Eleta, like most greedy managers, took the money and sank his fighter by signing the fight. Duran tried hard to lose the weight and even took diuretics but he had too little time to be in shape. I do not know of an athlete in any sport that can gain and lose 50 pounds in a period of 5 months and be in any type of good shape. Duran was very weak before the fight and stuffed himself with steaks hoping that this would give him some strength. During the fight itself Duran did not have the speed he had in their first fight to catch Leonard. He was too weak and out of shape to do what he wanted to do and he knew it. He became increasinly frustrated at Leonard's running so much because he really wanted to let him have it. Duran became even more frustrated with himself. When he quit he thought that there would be a 3rd fight in a few months and that he would be ready for it. Roberto knew that he had not been in shape but would get into shape properly for a 3rd fight. Unfortunately, Leonard never wanted to tangle with Duran again. He knew that he had been lucky and had caught Duran off guard and he would never ever fight Duran again in his prime. It really is amazing what money and greed can do!!! Leonard finally did agree to fight Duran again but he waited 9 years until he knew that Duran was old and past his prime. It was a boring boring fight because Ray just ran and ran and ran. In retrospect, I do not blame Duran for his implosion. I put the fault sqarely on the shoulders of his manager for making a poor decision motivated soley by greed and money. I have seen other artists and sports figures self destruct and not be crucified as much as Roberto Duran has. Roberto Duran is the most amazing fighter I have ever seen in my life. He deserves a 5 star rating regardless of the so called mistake he made because he redeemed himself by winning belts at higher weights. He also provided the boxing world with some of the greatest fights of all time.
