Horrible service. Very slow getting cars. Twice received traffic tickets from cars I didn't even rent, then to straighten out the mess is impossible.

The customer service in San Diegois terrible. The waiting for the shuttle bus is very long even in a sunny afternoon. The waiting line in the rental office is very long. Also the representatives are very rude. So we canceled the reservation after talk with these rude representatives.

I would not recommend Fox rental car to friends I know. But I will recommend it to anyone I hates.

I tried Fox rental car three times in the past two years. Once in San Diego, twice in San Francisco.

The customer service in San Diegois terrible. The waiting for the shuttle bus is very long even in a sunny afternoon. The waiting line in the rental office is very long. Also the representatives are very rude. So we canceled the reservation after talk with these rude representatives.

The customer service in San Franciscois better. The waiting line is very long too. But the representatives are very polite. But the thing we do not like Fox rental is they have a lot hidden traps. They are sharing your private information such as credit card info with some other 3rd party companies without your knowledge. If you have a parking ticket, even if you paid the ticket, the 3rd party companies will try to charge you 40$ service fee. So we stopped using Fox rental car service.

What horrible service!!! To start with they never did a walk around the car with us at the beginning. So we did it on our own and found a dent. We made them note it down. The worst part was returning the car. the first of my bad incidents was they were sooooo unorganized. Then we had sand in our car.....not alot, just a little off of our shoes and they charged us a 75.00 cleaning fee! oh yea we reserved an intermediate car. There web site says it can hold 5 pieces of luggage.....Yeah right, the cars they have are no where near close to that.

These guys are the worst! They are a LITTLE cheaper, but I've had only headaches. After 2 days of renting the car, we get a call from them asking why we didn't pick up the car. Then they didn't know which car we had, so we called in with the key number. We return the car a few days later. A few days after that we get a message telling us that we didn't return the call. We leave several messages (YOU CAN'T GET A HOLD OF ANYONE) and even fax a copy of the receipt of return of the car. AND NOW WE GET A MESSAGE A 8 PM ON SUNDY, MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND SAYING THAT THEY'RE GOING TO REPORT US TO THE POLICE. What a bunch of idiots! Thank God we still have the receipt of return -- I'm about to call now.

We rented from the LAX office last month. At first we thought we were getting a great deal. Soon after leaving the rental building, the car started a mild clunking. We didn't think much of it, so we drove to Palm Springs as planned. The next day the clunking continually got worse so we called to have them bring us another car. They told us that they couldn't do that, we'd have to bring it back the 1.5 hours to LA. Ok, if we have to. Well, halfway back to LA, the car died on Highway 10. We had to coast across 3 lanes of traffic to the shoulder. We called them and told them we needed a car brought to us, we were on the side of the road, but they told us that they were understaffed. They told us we couldn't leave the car and had to wait for a tow truck. 3 hours later one came and we had to cram ourselves into the towtruck for the hour drive to the Fox station. This was now 1:00am and we still had to drive back to Palm Springs. They gave us a new car... we thought "stuff happens, oh well"

2 weeks later we got a bill for repairs to the car with a letter accusing us of filling the tank with diesel. And now, 2 weeks after getting the letter, with all the proof (receipts and milage) that we didn't do it... we're still getting the run around & a threat of collections.

Pay a few dollars more and go somewhere else.

I would not recommend this company. The lady who I spoke to at the San Francisco Rental, Tonya, was rude and had no customer service skills. There was a discrepency with my bill and she completely blew up. There was not the car I orginally asked for when I signed up for a rental well over a month in advance and the agents we not friendly at all. They are a train ride and shuttle ride away from SFO and its not worth it!! They are unprofessional and rude. I am truly worried that my credit info will be stolen by one of the employees.... SERIOUSLY Shady!

I ask if I keep the car an Xtra day what would it cost because I might not be able to get it back in time ..... I was told there would be a 15 dollar charge, NOT an EXTRA 10 on top of the 15, but when I got my statement on line they took 40 dollars more than they were suppose to. ... My daughter took the car back because my brother passed away, and I was a mess..... I went on line to check my account and they had taken more than we had contracted for..... I called and spoke with Sara a rep for the Fox Rent a Car....She told me about the extra 10 charge that was at the bottom of the contract and I asked why I wasn't quoted that charge when I specifically asked for those details... She started getting rude so I said let me talk to your manager and she said he was out sick ..... I said well, the charge still even with the Xtra 10 would not come to that much, and I needed my charges adjusted, she then said I had to talk to the manger and hung up on me YA lollolol I couldn't believe it she hung up .... I called back using a different voice, talked for a min. to get her name, then I hung up .... The car was OK, ane when I rented it in SLC, UT the service was good other than the 10 left out.... But .... HELLO they need help with there service help and I never read anything about them till now .... and ya

For people dumb enough to Leave Sunglases or even worse GPS units in the car anf then get mad when they are gone.... Shmae on you. You should always do a check before you return the car, glove box, center console, under the seats and trunk... Give me a break?!

I was skeptical after reading all the reviews, but the price was so good. I decided to make a reservation at two car companies just in case Fox did not work out. I called for the shuttle just as I landed because I read some reviews that said you wait forever for the shuttle. We picked up our luggage and the shuttle was there within 10 minutes. There were several people working the front counter when we arrived so I did not wait in line too long- maybe 5 minutes. The office is a dump though. I would use the bathroom before you leave the airport. We got the car we reserved without any problems. The return also went smoothly and again the shuttle took us back to the airport within about 10 minutes. It was a very similar experience to other rental car companies I have delt with. I was very worried about using them based on the reviews, but I am glad I did and saved a bunch of money.

I read all of these reviews AFTER making my reservation for Fox so I was very wary when I went to pick up my car. Everything went great! I rented from the Phoenix location, yeah there was a little bit of a line (4 people) but it went fast and within a total of a half hour I was on the road. I prepared for the worst and experienced the best. I guess it kinda helped that they gave me a Mustang convertible since it was my birthday too. I got a killer rate. I would definitely rent from them again hands down.

Got scamed the second I walked in the door - was told the car I reserved is no longer at that location (San Diego)and given a car much smaller and a down grade, but offered an upgrade at additional $$. the upgrade was a POJ they did switch out vehicles to an acceptable vehicle (at which time it was revealed that the car I reserved was at that location but now rented out). However at that time a customer's wallet was stolen by an employee and the managment was not willing to do anything to assist their customer who was now going to miss his flight. I was also a victim of theft when I left my sunglasses in the vehicle - I called 15 minutes after leaving for the airport and was told they would check and then placed on hold for 10 minutes. I called back and was again placed on hold this went on for 50 minutes until I was informed that the glasses were missing. When I explained that I placed them in the visor as we arrived and that if they were missing it was because of one of their employees. I was told "how do I know that you even had a pair of glasses - we are not responsible for you leaving your stuff behind - the glasses are not here". It appears that customer service takes a back seat to theft and deception at fox San Diego! Use any other company!!!!!

We rented a car from Fox in Seattle and had very good service. From the guy who picked us up at the airport to the counter person, everyone was friendly. The car was clean and in good shape. When we returned they quickly checked the car, we finished the paper work and back to the airport without a hitch. We would use them again.

Awful! We rented in Pheonix. The line was long and very slow. The customer service was terrible. We had car trouble almost every day...the alignment was WAY off, brake light went on numerous times...the electronic throttle light came on when we were driving to return it (which means I could literally floor the car and it wouldn't move! Fortunately, I was able to turn the car off and restart it and it stopped the problem. Only had to do that 4 times in a 15 mile trip!) When we finally got the car back to the rental drop off, we reported all the problems we had and the guy checking us in said "bummer". Then he proceeded to inspect the entire outside of the car. He found that the bumper on the front passenger side was not attached properly. That was not written on our pick up inspection (I was so happy to finally get a car when we picked it up that I didn't look closely enough - my bad!) In any case, his ONLY concern was that - not the car's mechanical problems. I knew we hadn't damaged the bumper so I complained and made him look it up in the computer. When he found that it was, in fact, damaged when we picked it up, all he said to me was "You're lucky. I guess you won't get a nasty claim letter from us." Never once did anyone say anything about the mechanical problems. My guess is that they put the car right back into rental rotation. I will NEVER use Fox again!

You get what you pay for; and in Fox's case, you DON'T even get that. Lowest prices but horrible service in San Diego. They had to downgrade our car class because they were out: who ever heard of DOWN-GRADING when you don't have what the customer reserved ?? !!!!!!!
Spend a few bucks more and go with Alamo: a great company every time I've dealt with them.

I have a P.S. to add. We rented at Phoenix, and dropped off at Oakland. The pickup site at Phoenix WAS well run, and the dropoff at Oakland went very quickly and smoothly with NO problems or extra charges. I'm sorry for those of you who had bad luck with Fox... I'm really feeling fortunate.

I am a frequent business traveler and decided to give Fox a try. They are by far the worst car rental company I ever used. Granted none are perfect but this company has to be at the bottom. Do not use them to rent a car. The cars are very dirty inside and out. I waited in line for over an hour to be checked in. When I contacted customer service they said they would notify me within 48 hours which they did not do. I then decided to contact the same person and she had no idea what I was talking about but she was the one I initally talked to and had emails to prove it. AGAIN STAY AWAY FROM FOX- I have found that thifty and alamo are the best bet for your money.

STAY AWAY FROM FOX!!!!!!
I rented from Fox in Phoenix and wished that I had payed an extra $20 to rent from one of the other companies. We only had 5 people ahead of us in line, but it took over 1 hour to get to the counter. All the other companies had almost no wait. It took another 20 minutes in the dark, polluted garage to get the car. The car was filthy and the gas light turned on before we even got to the freeway (the guy who brought us the car checked off 1/4 tank, so we had to fill it to that level when we returned). When we returned the car, they went over it with a fine-tooth comb to find anything else to charge use for. I saw many other unhappy customers when we picked up an returned the car.

We experienced the worst Car Rental Service ever in Anaheim. In addition to the 1/2 hr. wait at the Airport for a Shuttle, we had to wait a 1/2 hr. for the Service Rep to figure out how to release the car we had reserved. When we returned the vehicle, we encountered the same wait due to the another Rep's poor training. We contacted Corporate with our complaint. They said we would be contacted by the Manager on site, but still haven't heard from them. We have no plans on going with a "cheap" rate again to save a buck. We would rather pay more next time, than have our invaluable vacation time wasted.

Our rental broke down and instead of paying for a cab to the airport, Fox sent out a new rental car 2 hours later than they promised it. We ended up missing our flight and had to stay overnight for the next flight in an expensive hotel since all the cheap airport hotels were booked. Fox did not reimburse us for making us miss our flight and forcing us to stay in an expensive hotel overnight. The manager was unavailable and refused to return our phone calls throughout the entire experience. He still does not return our call when we attempt to get reimbursed. I will never rent with Fox again.

DIRTY CARS AND EVEN WORSE SERVICE. Hope they do not pride themselves on customer service. They are a real joke. Only used the service because it was reccommended by a good friend. Their very unprofessional and the cars are filthy. I paid to rent a dirty car. If I hadn't been in a real hurry, I wouldn't have even rented with them. Nevertheless, I called and left a voicemail for the manager Syed to call me about this problem, but he didn't. I used the car for a few hours and returned to either have it cleaned or get another car and an apology or discount for inconvenience wouldn't have hurt. I got the SORRY apology but 2 more dirty cars were offered after the first. I advised the manager who goes by the name of Rich that this was becoming a big inconveinece and they had taken up alot of my day already. He became very bitter and rude to me. I ran late to my meetings and ended up trying to extend the rental for a few days and guess what...No answer on any of their telephone lines....who coulda thunk it? After more messages and emails still no response. THIS IS DEFINATLY NOT A GOOD PLACE TO RENT.

Terrible customer service, wanted to charge us extra per day if the passenger paid for the rental instead of the driver. Both were going to put down credit cards but the passenger was going to pay. Why should that be an extra charge?

Fox is the cheapest option for LAX and it shows. Unless you win the cosmic lottery, you'll end up waiting 45 minutes to an hour for the shuttle. As I was waiting for mine, I must have seen 6 or 7 Avis shuttles go by. It was sort of a rough crowd on the shuttle, the line to actually rent your car took for ever, and overall, it just wasn't a pleasant experience.

Do yourself a favor and spend the extra $20 or so and go with a more reputable firm.

Can you say Bait and Switch?

I had a reservation in hand when I visited the LAX airport location at 10 PM. The MID size suv I reserved seated 5. Of course, when I got to the desk after a 30 minute wait in line, they were all out of this. Instead, they offered a smaller suv that only seated 4. If I wanted this smaller suv I would have booked it. I explained to the rude representative that I expected a discount, at least equal to the difference in the rental rates between a small and midsize suv. She wouldn't even give that to me! No surprise they didn't have the rental rates posted with an explanation of the cars available. She only would give a whopping 5% discount! Her next suggestion was to rent with another company! I was left with having to take the shuttle back to the airport and call other companies trying to find a midsized SUV at 11 PM on the beginning of a 3 day weekend.

I ended up renting a brand new Jeep Liberty with Advantage Rental Cars and was in and out without a reservation faster than the line at Fox. Never again will I consider using Fox. They are out to try to out Fox you with the old bait and switch every time. As stated before, I am very surprised they haven't been under investigation for deceptive practices.

Would not recommend renting from Fox - very long queues at LAX where friends and family of the staff had preference. Once we received our car (downgraded one level due to lack of availability ...), we got a dirty car where the former renter had smoked non-stop for at least a week. Horrible smell.

Cheap rates - maybe. Value in comparsion to what you get? Noway ...

I recently took a trip to Anchorage Alaska. I reserved from FOX because the rental location is not physically at the airport therefore I would not have to pay the high airport tax, as advertised. Also it was advertised that a shuttle service to and from the airport would be provided. So upon landing at ANC I called to arrange for the shuttle. I was told they would arrive within 15 minutes. My actual wait time was one and a half hours. Once picked up by the shuttle service I discovered that the location of the rental office is less than 4 miles from the airport. I could have literally walked to the rental place in less time. Upon arriving I was shocked when I received my bill and it did include the airport tax. I was told this was because I used the shuttle service. Had I rented a taxi the charge would not have been applied. If this is in fact true I feel it should have been disclosed. Also it would have been nice to know this before waiting one and a half hours at the airport. I would also like to point out that with the additional tax I could have rented more cheaply from the airport. All of this I could have lived with as things do happen however, when the car was brought around I was again shocked to see that it was an old Ford Taurus. This model has not been made for years. The car had peeling paint, more dents then I can enumerate, and part of the bummer was ripped off. When I was going over the pre-rental inspection and the employee was marking down the things I reported he actually said "I guess it would be easier to say what isn't wrong with the car." (Um, WOW) I think it should be mandatory to disclose that you are actually renting a wreck. Also, I asked for a non-smoking car. When I sat in the car the smell of smoke was worse then if I had walked into a pub. The seats were actually filled with burn holes. As if to cover up the smell a pine tree air freshener had been hung from the rear-view mirror. When I asked about the smoke smell the employee offered to spray the car with generic febreeze. However the squirt handle was broken. Had it not been so unbelievable it would have been humorous. I find myself wondering if all rental locations are similar to this one.

While I was there some fisherman came in to pick up their car. It had a crack in the windshield from one side to the other. In my state this car would not have been road legal. At this point I came to the conclusion that this is not a legitimate business but rather con artists and I had just been had.

Renting the car was okay, the agent at the desk was rude but did not pressure me for anything and honored my reservation. The car was fine also. When I landed at my destination I realized that I forgot a gps receiver in the car right away. Thats when I found out how terrible the customer service is at FOX. I immediately called the rental company and got the usual automated response, I picked customer service and got voicemail saying they would call back. I called during business hours (about 2 PM) on a Wednesday, and to this day I have not received a call back. I when through the automated system again and got the "administrative assistant" left a message there, since voicemail picked up...no call back. I went through the menu again and figured out how to get the district manager, voicemail picked up, left a message...no call back. I went through the menu and picked roadside assist...voicemail! These people obviously do not answer the phone and at this point my quest was to see if I could speak to a real person! Finally I went through the menu to reservations, lo and behold someone answered that line. I told the lady that I had a customer service issue and she wanted to transfer me to the "customer service" line. I said "NO" I need to speak to someone since that line is obviously not manned. She transferred me to the receptionist who I told that my whole issue was only to call the garage and ask if they found my item. I was getting somewhere now. She gave me the number and I called the garage, when I got hold of them they stated I needed to call the "lost and found". I called the lost and found number and since noone was there it automatically transferred me back to the receptionist that I just spoke to!? I had told her my issue when I spoke to her the first time, but now I had to leave a message for the lost and found person since she didn't know where he kept the stuff. I left the message satisfied that I had figured out their smoke and mirror phone network, since it was like doing a challenging puzzle, but still upset since I know I'll never see my gps. I realized that it was missing pretty much right away and could have recovered it easily if I could have got hold of someone quickly and if they were honest. It took 2 days to navigate through their "customer service", I only got through to a person easily when trying to make a reservation, and I have never got a call back after 5 different messages to 5 different people. It was my fault I left the gps in the car, but they obviously don't care about customer service. They are a joke...I will never use them again and will tell everyone I know to opt to pay a little more to make sure that you won't be stuck if there is an issue with them. Good thing I didn't break down in the middle of nowhere, I'd still be waiting for a call back!

Fox is a complete joke. They did not have the car we ordered upon arrival--despite a reservation in-hand. They claimed to have nothing that fit our needs and would not confirm for us the number of seatbelts available in the cars they did have--the agent was a complete jerk. Totally smarmy and deceptive. After being given the runaround for nearly an hour, and our repeated refusals to upgrade to a Hummer--or transfer to another rental desk (where our agent had "friends") we were finally provided a car that was perfectly fine. A totally awful experience and a scam. This place should be under investigation.

We reserved a full size car through their website at a rate of $24.50 a day and $10 for the aditional hour. I checked the rate the day before we left, and saw that it went down to $16.50/day and $10 for the hour. Fantastic - so I rebooked it. We arrived to the PHX rental facility around 11am on a Saturday, there was one personal in line, whereas the other car places had lines MILES long. It was our turn, we presented our slip, and she got the car ready. Whenever we go to Florida or Arizona we always take the damage waiver, at $20/day extra it's worth it, (the drivers in AZ and FL are terrible.) The clerk was kind and helpful, and did NOT pressure us into taking out insurance at all.

Down at the garage, we were met with a very kind gentleman who ordered our car. It was a 2006 Ford Taurus, which is not a full size car, but then again, we were paying $16.50 a day (the next lowest was Alamo at $35.06/day) he looked over the car for dents and scratches, and then we looked it over with him. Everything fine - we left.

The car ran great, it didn't have any window fluid, but it was ok since it was dry AZ.

Upon returning the car, we were met again with a very kind clerk who went over the vehicle, she thanked us for our business, and pointed us in the direction to check out. My husband took care of that, and a gentleman came over and helped me with the luggage. I went over to the counter, the clerk thanked us, and shook our hands. As we were leaving my husband told me they were very dissapointed the car didn't had window fluid, so they gave us a $30 discount, and also waived the extra hour fee of $10. So our car with all taxes, fees, and damage waiver for 3 days and one hour ended up costing around $140, Alamo was $157, not including any insurance or damage waiver.

I would recommend FOX

I rented from Fox Rent A Car last October when I went to visit some family. I have to admit, the only reason I initially decided to go with them was for the simple fact that they had the lowest prices. Unfortunately, as I began approaching the rental car shuttle area, I saw one of Fox's shuttles drive away, so I had just missed it. It did take a little longer than I would have liked for another to come by, about 20 minutes actually. Finally I got on the shuttle and a friendly driver greeted me and helped me on with my luggage. The drive to the establishment was brief and the driver was pleasant. Check in was speedy and I upgraded to a Civic Hybrid which I was very happy with. The only con was that nobody instructed me on how to operate a hybrid car. However, I'm a smart girl so it wasn't that difficult to figure out. When I arrived to return the vehicle, check out was super fast and since I was the only one on the shuttle going back to the airport, the driver dropped me off right in front of my terminal. Overall I had a great experience with fox and would definitely return.

Do not rent from them. They gave me an unsafe defective car -- the tail lights were not working (even with the headlights on), and a police officer pulled me over when it got dark. I doubt they will fix the car, and you may end up renting it!

Fox Rent a Car Complaint

My family & my wife were planning our 1st vacation together out of Minnesota. We needed a rental car (minivan) to drive from the Phoenix Airport to Sedona, AZ. We chose Fox Rent a Car because their price was the lowest. That was a mistake.
When we went to pick up the van at the airport, we did a quick once around the van and noticed a couple problems. One, the passenger side of the van was spattered with some white stuff that looked comparable to bird excrement. Next, we noticed the back passenger side tire was noticeably low in pressure. It was probably only 10 psi. We stated our concern and the gentleman took the van to the shop to see if he could find any holes in the tire. He returned it with the tires all nice and shiny and with full pressure. Unless someone deliberately releases air out of a tire (unlikely), tires dont lose air without a reason and thus it is likely to happen again. Therefore, we requested a better solution. The driver then went back to the shop and brought us a different minivan. Finally, we were on our way. Tire pressure should be a basic maintenance task done before vehicles are checked out. Poor Service!
Another reason we chose Fox was because of their 10% coupon on their website. The coupon stated 10% off compact to full size vehicles. We assumed a mini van was a full size vehicle, but according to Fox it is not. If it was stated as full size cars, I would understand that the coupon does not apply to minivans. Or if there was an asterisk on the coupon with a disclaimer on the bottom that said premium and van type vehicles do not apply, then I would understand. All I know is that a full size vehicle to us meant all vehicles. After a 45 minute wait, we stated our case 2 times, including once to a manager and nobody listened. Poor Service!
I will not choose Fox again & will persuade others who are considering them to rent from someone else.

Beware of Fox rent car ("payless"). I returned the car in perfect shape and was inspected as so. Months later they have the nerve to send me a bill for over $500 claiming there was damage to the windshield. That company is a joke and out to get you!!!

Needed a car when I flew up to San Jose. However, rates are much cheaper in Oakland than San Jose. I flew into Oakland and drove down to San Jose. I was kinda worried at first with all the stories I've read on here and epinions, but alas, my rental was without any problems. The car rental location is slightly off the Oakland airport along with the other 5-6 car rental companies, and a shuttle is provided. I arrived in the evening and there were no lines or wait for anything. They quickly confirmed my reservation and gave me the keys. I did not have to prove insurance, I just told them who my insurance company was and that was that. I rented a Mid-Size car, and I ended up with a PT Cruiser. I'm not really a fan of the PT Cruiser, but it was decent. It was brand new with about 640 miles on it. The guy at the lot didn't do a walk around or anything, he just signed his name off. Being that it was new, it had no problems. I took pictures of every angle anyways just in case. Drove it for 3 days...returned it about 20 minutes late at Oakland Airport, and had no problems. They didn't ask me for receipts for the gas tank, although I just filled it up down the street. Everything was the price they quoted me on the jetblue website (which was alot cheaper than other place.) I would give it 4 stars, instead of 5, but I can't find any problems and everything went smoothly.

Rented a Civic Hybrid from the Orange County/John Wayne Airport location. I will say it was a bit of a drive to their location, but our car was there and ready. We loved the car, loved the price, have no complaints really. I will say that they are slower than a national chain place and did ask for employer name and if we had a copy of our insurance card, but other than that nothing too exciting. The return did go a bit slow because there were 4 people in line in front of us to pick up cars, but that's just the chance you take, when we picked-up we were the only ones there. I'd definitely do this again!

Fox US Rent A Car I will never do again! US rent a car failed to pick me up at my pick up! This car rental company knew they were late when I called and said someone was on the way. I again called US rent a car up 20 minites later and they said I was not at my pick up! I waited 40 minutes for nothing. I asked the bell hop if this is where they pick up he said yes and said he never saw them drive through. I figured someone was running behind on thier pick ups and to cover thier @ss they just moved on to the next pick up. So much for the great customer service of US Rent a Car.

Do not rent from FOX rental, and if you do.....BE SURE TO THOROUGHLY INSPECT THE CAR FOR ITEMS LEFT BEHIND BEFORE YOU TURN IT IN!!!! I left my expensive cell phone in the car accidentally one night when I rented a mid-sized (looked more like compact) car from their SAN JOSE AIRPORT FACILITY. I called the next morning to ask if they had re-rented the car. They said they had not. So I told them I left my cell phone in the vehicle and would be by that afternoon to pick it up. They told me they would check and call me back. When they called back, they said they did not find the phone!!!! The FOX employees RIPPED ME OFF....I was so upset I went there in person to complain and their inexperienced staff, including the "on duty" manager who looked more like a parolee, told me they could not do anything about it. I reported the incident to their district mangager who just happened to be on site at the time. She did nothing. I even wrote a letter of complaint to their corporate office in Los Angeles. Nothing was done...these people are incompetent thieves and I vow I will never rent from them again. Pay the extra $10-20 for quality service...you will not regret it. I give FOX two thumbs DOWN!!!! DO NOT RENT FROM THEM!!

Great car rental company. Fox in Los Angelers gave a great price on a Civic Hybrid for a 2-day rental. The next day, I needed a second car, phoned Fox at about 7:00 AM from my hotel, at 7:45 AM I was off with my second car for which they also gave a great price for a 1-day rental. I can only praise the drivers for the newer vans that take you back to the airport.

LAX is nothing but a hustle. Long, slow line. I listened while they tried hustling everybody into a more expensive car. We specifically reserved a convertible for our vacation. They tried hustling us into two other deals before admitting, after 15 minutes of waiting, that they didn't have our car. Offered us a 'luxury' car, then tried to slip in a different one when they didn't have that one either.

During the week of Christmas, I had family coming from out of town and needed a larger car. I rented from Fox, and will never again. I received a confirming email that morning of my reservation. I got there and even with my printout and confirmation number, they could not locate the reservation, but in a stroke of genius, decided with my documentation, they could go ahead and give me a car for the quoted price. Next problem: I am a local resident, so I needed to show them a utility bill, which, surprisingly, I didn't keep in my back pocket. They gave some story that it prevents cars from going to Mexico. Whatever. Credit cards can confirm a current billing address, so they are trying to not have locals rent from them, possibly because they find it easier to fight overcharges. Two other local residents had made the trip down there to find that out (yes, it's printed on the reservation info, way at the end of the boilerplate language) and they stormed off. My father rented the car, being from out of state. The overnight rental was uneventful, but they have another hokey policy that you can't just return the car with a full tank, but you have to have a a full tank PLUS a receipt from a local gas station dated that day that is within 7 miles of the lot. So they want utility bills and gas receipts, what a pain. Before ever renting from this decrepit, dirty facility, make sure you ask if you'll need a note from your mother as well.

I rented a car to be picked up in Las Vegas. The shuttle service from the airport was flawless. When I got to their rental location I waited in line for 1 hour and was told they had no cars available. Not only that but it's not their problem they don't have any cars, it's the people returning them late that are fault. Even though I confirmed the reservation the day before! This place is the MOST unorganized business I have ever dealt with, very rude employees with no customer service skills. After talking with the supervisor she said I have a car for you. After I fill out all the paperwork and argue with them about the minimum insurance coverage they want me to take which was $14.95 per day on top of the rental fee. Then they tell me I am 100% responsible for ANY damage and lost time for them while the car is being fixed. Yeah sure ok. Finally they accept the fact I don't want their insurance coverage. 1 hour and 45 minutes later I walk out to a Dodge Neon, which is supposed to be a mid sized car? Not only that but the car is the biggest POS I have EVER rented. It has 31000 miles, stains throughout the interior, scratches, dents and a broken windshield. Half of which was not listed on their little form you sign before you take the car. After getting that taken care of I am on the road. The car was ok for the few days I had it. Returning was much smoother. Car was dropped off and I was at the airport within 20mins. DON'T rent a car from this outfit! Pay a few more dollars and save yourself a ton of headaches. Also beware they have changed their name. It's now US Rent A Car!

My wife reserved a car with them - $20/week cheaper than Thrifty. She called from Chicago and confirmed that there would not be any additional charges - including insurance. She was traveling alone to LA and was subjected to an hour of arguments and insistence that she needed to buy additional insurance - her credit card and our personal insurance covers car rentals. We even took a print out from the credit card coverage - but they would not agree. Finally she gave up and took a shuttle back to the airport to rent a car from Thrifty for the $20 more. Avoid these Foxy and crooked car rental people like the plague!!!!!

Fox Rent-A-Car seemed to be a good deal when I searched thru Orbitz. It had the best price for a company 'in terminal' and their website had generous coupons (10% off, upgrade, etc.). It also stated that the shuttle runs every 8 minutes right in front of the luggage pick-up area. I had no trouble with the shuttle as I waited less than 5 min for both the pick-up & drop-off. The logo says Fox/Payless, so I assume that they are owned by the same company. I was surprised when the shuttle took me outside of the airport - and this is confirmed by looking up their address. Although not too far off, their LAX location is definitely OFF-terminal. Their parking lot is very small with only about a couple of dozen cars, and it is very run-down. My experience with staff wasn't too terrible. When I requested, she gave free 1 class upgrade, AND honored the online coupon for 10% off. She even gave 'additional driver' option for free (I'm not sure if this is their standard practice or not, but other rental companies do charge about $5/day in my experience) for my friend. Also, when we complained about the liability charge ($10+/day for a $18/day rental) as we returned the car, the manager took the charge off too (this could've been the mistake of the clerk, since if you have the liability insurance for your car, you are not required to take the coverage - but you should carry your insurance card according to the manager). Anyway, my biggest complaint, and the reason why I will never return to Fox, is the cars that they use. I didn't care for their upgrade (Ford Focus to Nissan Sentra - which shouldn't be classified as 'intermediate' to begin with). And our car had a lot of scratches, and wasn't even washed. The inside was worse as we saw brown coffee spots in the front seat area, and pet hair on the seats. As we started the car, it was sputtering a bit, but we assumed for the best and didn't request for another car - what a mistake! When we turned on the A/C about 5 min away from the lot, we realized it wasn't cold at all. It got better as we got on the free way at crusing speed, but we opted for windows all through out the trip to LA! What really got us angry was the fact that the battery died overnight when positively NOTHING was left on. A staff from the hotel came to our rescue and jump-started it for us. The car had 35K+ miles on it, which I've never seen from another reantal car agency. And it obviously affected the performance as we had to pedal it each time we got on the freeway. Also, this is the first company that told me that the gas is on 5/8th, and I had to fill up to that point when I come back. Fox Rent-A-Car is cheap company with cheap, dirty and problematic cars. I almost feel sorry for the people who work there. Pay a few bucks more and go with a national chain.

I made a reservation at their LAX location. They never picked me up - I was at the right bus stop (I checked by calling them) and saw their bus go by 3 times and called them 3 times before giving up and boarding the Avis bus. I could have saved the 45 minutes of extra wait time just going straight to Avis.
