Seems like the reviews for fox rent a car a little bit mixed here. I have to say, that I had a good experience with them. Saved me about $ 400 renting from fox in LA. Ok, the building is a bit shabby, but I am renting the car, not the building, right. Other than that, I cant complain about anything. Staff was friendly, airport pick up was within 20 minutes and I only had about 4 people in front of me, so I got my car within about 45 minutes after getting on the shuttle. I will rent from fox again, thats for sure!

Great people but quality of product is very bad. I ordered a luxury car and got what I ordered, but inside was filthy, tires barely legal tread, shocks were shot, shuttle van old filthy and one burnt out head light. I went through Fox because of the good price and if that is the only decission then I guess they are worth it, but I would never ride in their cars again, just not safe.

I rented from Fox Rent A Car several times now, in San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas, and I have to say they were great! I usually do not post comments, but I have to say, they really surprised me. They not only had the best deal, but their service was great too. I understand that sometimes things go wrong, that is probably why there are some negative reviews here. But from my personal experience, renting a car from Fox was the best choice. I saved a lot, people at all the locations I've been to were nice and friendly and nothing else to complain about. Ok, I waited about 20 min at the airport for the shuttle in LA, but hey, I saved about 20% compared to other car rental companies. Check them out and give it a shot!

1 star. - Terrible ServiceThis is a copy of the review that I sent to Fox.I needed to accommodate a disabled person & her wheeler in a car. I requested the Dodge Cavalier as it states on your web site that it holds 3 suitcases. This would have been enough to accommodate the wheeler. I called CSR asking if I could attach a note stating that it was very important that we reserved a car w/ room for 3 cases. Your larger cars did not hold as much luggage as the Dodge Cavalier did & luggage room, as opposed to passenger room, was my main concern. I called Fox on 4 occasions over a 2 day period to ask to have a note attached to our record to state that it was imperative that we rented a car w/ room for at least 3 suitcases. I found your CSR team to be incredibly rude & uncooperative. It should be renamed the SOL team because that is the attitude that I got from all 3 women I spoke with......all different women...... the first of whom didn't even want to take the time to punch my reservation number into the system....How lazy is that????.... I had to force her to do so. Having worked in the public service industry for over 30 years in 2 continents I can assure you that your standard of customer service is the worst that I have ever come across. I thought at first it may have been just one person so I called back to CSR on 2 other occasions & once to the San Diego office. I got the same uncooperative attitude each time. There is no excuse for the dismal lack of customer service. Realizing that employees generally reflect the attitude of the management team, I can only presuppose that your management team is equally, unhappy, ill trained, inept & lazy as your staff. Receiving the same lack of attention & lack of concern from your San Diego office during my last call - 3 hours before pick up - was the last straw for me. I checked the reviews on the internet for your company & found that approximately 35 out of 38 reviews were not only negative but basically said that Fox absolutely stunk as a Car rental agency. With 3 hours to go I called Ace Rental Cars (one of your competitors in San Diego) and reserved a car that was in fact cheaper than your rental. When I got to Ace I was upgraded to a brand new 2 sizes larger car than I had reserved for the same price & I am very happily driving it at the moment. You're not the cheapest car rental company in San Diego, & even if you were you would have absolutely no grounds to have such a disgusting lack of customer service. For the record ....don't advertise your fleet of cars & then state that San Diego only has PT Cruisers. It is akin to Bait & Switch. I intend to place this review on every website that asks for a review about Fox Rent A Car.

I also had a good experience with Fox Rent A Car the other day in Seattle. Great price and the staff was helpful and friendly! But the real reason why I rented the car, was because they offer cool info on their blog (www.foxrentacarblog.com)! Things to do, travel tips and so forth. Made me aware that this company even existed!

I booked my vehicle online as they had a good deal. I went to San Jose airport to pick up my vehicle and there were 2 customers complaining about the vehicles Fox had given them as they were dirty and had scratches. Another customer complained about their car smelling like marijuana and finding traces of marijuana on the passenger seat. The staff just laughed it off but didn't do anything about it. I was surprised when their staff asked me if I pay cash he will give me a better deal. I declined the offer My vehicle had scratches as well and when I brought it to their attention, they said don't worry about it as I have the coverage. My vehicle was in a very poor condition as the tires had very little tread and if I went over 60 miles / hour, it would start shaking. In the end, I returned the vehicle early and ended up renting from another company because I didn't feel safe in their vehicle. When I came home, I noticed they had reversed a few charges on my credit card and since I don't live in US, I ended up paying the exchange charges plus they charge my card for another vehicle I didn't even rent. I called and complained and it has been 4 months but all they do is refer me to different department but no refund yet.Save your money and headache. Don't rent from FOX because:Their vehicles are not safeTheir vehicles are not cleanThey don't give you what they promiseYou pay for charges you weren't aware ofThey offer you better deals if you pay their staff cashCustomer service centre's phone disconnect if your phone call is longer than 5 mintuesDon't expect to get your money back if it's their mistake

I think a key part of any review is the location when there are multiple. This applies specifically only to Seattle. I searched regular sites and priceline; Fox was like half the cost so I figured I'll take it regardless of the poor reviews I read. Many seemed to be the renters fault; if you're not poor or an idiot who doesn't read, the $250 debit and $150 credit holds are acceptable. So I booked the rental for 2 days, then for the heck of it priced it out again a couple days before my trip. The price went down (and for a compact rather than economy)! I wasn't able to modify online, so had to book a new one, and then called to cancel the old. Calling was no problem, a few minute wait and efficient help.Afterwards I received an email survey as to why I didn't pick-up the car I reserved; nice touch, and one of the options were cancelled due to lower price.Pick up - I didn't have to take their airport shuttle; was dropped off by a friend at about 5:30. No line, no wait. Desk guy was cool, zero pressure with insurance and stuff; I know how to rent and always decline everything return it full of gas. I saw a whole lot of PT Cruisers in the lot so expected to end up with one, although I think they classified it as a mid-size (but didn't call it an upgrade!). Could've gotten a Jeep Patriot for $10 more a day; but when I was only going to pay $15 a day that increase didn't make sense for me.The car - a white 2008 PT with 26k miles. Decent shape. They already noted the condition at the rental desk (x's on the bumper on the picture) and said if it looked ok to simply leave. Interior wasn't perfect; but I've seen much worse. Only gross part was the rear cup holder had a bunch of sticky soda residue. Whatever. It really wasn't as bad as I expected either; was thinking like an HHR but was actually less awkward than that. No power mirrors or cruise control was kinda weak, but again, for the price, whatever. Although the door handles suck. Fuel economy was pretty bad too. Ok, no more Chrysler bashing here.Drop off - Was running a bit late, but check-in was no problem. Minimal inspection; the guy didn't even walk around the car and just wrote OK on the condition paper. No receipt machine, so had to walk in to the desk to finish the process. A few minutes for the shuttle and was done. Very smooth. Received an emailed follow-up survey also.Payment - now the part I was a bit worried about was being credited back. Upon renting they charged my card $150 as they said that was their minimum, return receipt showed what they owed me, and 2 days later the remainder showed up.I usually don't review if there's nothing new to say; but felt that the low average isn't really fair; but again, this applies only the Seattle location in October 09. Definitely recommended, although sorry for the length of this; I was just expecting the worst and was pleasantly surprised.

I booked Fox in Salt Lake City via Expedia because the savings over the traditional car rental companies were over $150 for a week. Guess the old sayings "if it's sounds too good to be true" and "you get what you pay for" are not just old sayings..they're right in this case! I knew the car pick up was off-airport...we just didn't know it would take an hour to figure out where to go to get their van! Once at the very dirty Fox location, there's a couple of very disgruntled customers being treated like scum by the Fox employee...an issue with a nicked windshield and what was already there before they rented. Hmmm....I thought, maybe this wasn't such a good idea, no matter the price. Then another customer walks in 'cause they just picked up their car and it doesn't work right....hmmm...another clue. Yet, we went ahead with the rental making sure to mark every little nick and door dink before we leave. Well...we rented a mid-size SUV (Jeep Patriot)...what they don't tell you is the Patriot is about as stripped as you can get....nothing power (windows, locks, sideview mirrors, etc). Not sure the last time we had to lock each and every door to ensure the car is secure! It's got a funky transmission (not good when you're in the mountains) and no cruise control, which was really bad since we took a side trip to Yellowstone. When we returned the car, of course, the guy said there were nicks in the windshield....boy, was I glad we had noted them in the car inspection paperwork! He had no room to negotiate. I'm thinking they purposely have cheap windshields just so they can charge customers for the nicks...in our book, that's just regular wear and tear..especially in the mountains and rugged country. The icing on the cake was on our van trip back to the airport....the van driver asked us about our experience with Fox...we shared....he said all he sees are unhappy customers, that he had only worked for them for two months, had said he didn't want to work weekends (it's a Sunday morning) and that this was his last shift! So, not sure how this company expects to stay in business...if they want to compete with the big guys, lower price is not enough...customer service, good products have to be equal or better. We won't make this mistake twice!

This is the very first and the very last time I am renting a car from this company. I and my wife had to wait for 1hr just to get to the counter after a 6 hr flight (in SFO). The bill ended up being about 35% more than what I was quoted for, (w/ all the hidden fees, surcharges, taxes etc etc) Then I had to wait for another 45 minutes for the car in the garage. (They said it was being washed)When it finally arrived, I've encountered the filthiest rental ever!!! Exterior was washed, but the interior was .. well i don't even know how to explain. Every seat had huge stains etc.. I guess I should have taken pictures to post. ( Maybe I will since the car is still outside..) I ended up taking it anyway since I was already too tired. I did not pay much attention to inside, since I never imagined something like that may happen, and also the parking garage was very dark when I picked it up... Again.. stay away from this company..

I had a great experiece the customer service in san diego was excellent. fox staff was well organized short staffed behind counter but very efficient. I feel the issues people who are mad are the only ones that post negative feed back but believe me i did see many happy customers walk out in the time that i was there. i feel that the problem is that the customer do not read policies they think they know it all and yet they are stupid. i took the time to write back because i read some reviews and there were alot of negative feedback so i wanted to see for myself. And i found out that the people who write negative feedbacks are stupid loosers who want everything given to them in their hands. GREAT JOB FOX

Fox Rental Company should stop misleading people with their professional looking website to their completely unprofessional ragtag fly-by-night operation. It's a joke at LAX. Long wait at pick-up and drop of due to lack of staff and vehicles. What ever staff they had was unprofessional and careless (young kids with no training). Some counter staff and manager were professional in manner but not in appearance. What ever vehicles they had were high mileage (upwards of 50,000 miles) and were not maintained. This is how they are able to provide you with cheap price. You get what you pay for if you can live with that. I didn't have any mechanical problems (close calls though) but on the return line people behind ame nd in front of me had horror stories (Metal to metal breaks, breakdowns, no service, etc) and were very angry. Shuttle service runs more like every 20 to 30 minutes.

I rented a "luxury" car in Phoenix. I liked the original price. I waited in line at the rental counter for 46 mins. It took forever for each person. One couple were at the counter for 18 mins. I have no idea why they are not more efficient, but they are not.It was the weirdest experience ever. I got to the counter. They guys said they had no more luxury cars in stock, did I want a Taurus or a chevy nova? I said he would have to give me an upgrade to a convertible for the same price. Suddenly he had a Chrysler 300 which was advertised. As he handed me the keys, he said: "The car is pink, hope you dont mind". At this point I just wanted to get out of there. I got down into their parking garage and the car was black. What? The car had 39K miles on it. Kinda high for a rental car but it turned out OK. Except the low tire pressure warning light kept coming on. I checked the tire pressure and they were OK, so it must be the sensor was out.Final cost was $99 more than I expected due to "insurance" costs. I didnt ask for insurance. I specifically asked for no additional insurance. I was probably in to big a hurry at the rental counter, but the guy definitely ripped me off.I will never rent from them again.

I chose this car company because it was cheap. I guess you get what you pay for. The rental place was filthy and the employees seemed bored and completely apathetic. It was very difficult to get anyone's attention. The worst part is that they weren't up front about their pricing at all - I paid $5 for an extra driver, for example, which seemed reasonable - except they tack on 20% in extra fees to this without telling you about it. Same if you get insurance, GPS or anything else. I had reserved the car online, so I thought I had a good idea what it would cost, so I was shocked to get my credit card statement and see that they had charged me $30 more than I had expected. From the other reviews here, it sounds like they do this often. I would not rent from this company. They're completely dishonest.javascript:__doPostBack('ctl00$ConBody$It emRatingDialog$SaveButton','')

Aweful!!!! Charged my credit card a "holding fee", then refunded me less than I was supposed to get back... customer service did give it back, but if you don't check your receipts, you get SCAMMED out of money. Also advertised "at the airport", but you have to take a shuttle to get there. Counter person RUDE!!!!

I had reserved the car at the vegas airport starting Friday night 10.00 pm. My flight got delayed by 3 hrs and reached at 1.00 am sat. There rental office was closed by then. (Offices of all the other rental companies were open 24 hrs). I was left with no car in the middle of the night. I rented a car from budget for a day at twice more rate (since I was a walk in customer) so that I can still pick my reserved car from FOX the next day. Next day I called FOX just to know that my reservation was cancelled since its been more than 12 hrs and I have to reserve it again and the rate is now double. Since I had given my flight details while reserving, it was their responsibility to make sure that they make the car available even after their office timings. Atleast they should have made the same reservation available the next day. I ended up renting from Hertz the next day paying $100 more than the original deal. I had to pay higher rate and go through all the hassles for FOX's stupid policies. I am not renting a car from FOX again

Consumers beware this is a sleezy outfit. They lie about their rates and they are not to be trusted. Just look at their Mickey Mouse signage and offices. Then take note of their employees there is a common thread there. We were charged far more then the quoted rate (about double) but that would turn out to be the least of our worries. Our car broke down in the dessert (Vegas area) in 110 degree weather. We almost perished but thanks to some good semaritins we survived. I had my cell phone and placed 8!!!!! calls to road side service and was put on hold for 30 minutes at a time. In total it took me 148 minutes to get through to this company for assistance. They did retrieve us and offered me a concession of $50 for the loss of 1 days holiday, a near death experience (we are both in our 60's and not up to dessert walks in 110 degree weather) and the worst give a shit attitude I have ever encountered. Do not be fooled by cheap rates. We only used them because there was no vehicles available on the day of our arrival. There vehicles have way more mileage on them then the other company's our's had 44,000 miles. The chap who picked us up from Fox said they have lot's of complaints and they keep their cars for 2 years instead of 1. Ignore this review at your peril.

I got a great bargain for a 3-days rental of a compact SUV from their San Jose, CA office. The service was quick with no drama. The charges on my credit card was correct. If it was not for an ill-prepared customer in front of me, I could have picked up the car in less than 30 minutes. Return was a snap.DaveSan Jose, CA

I booked a car from Fox through Expedia. Expedia's share (I now come to find) was $84.64, yet I was charged this amount in addition to "my share" of $93.99. Now it's a month after I rented the car, and I received my credit card bill today. I was charged the entire $178.63. I took 3 hours to call Expedia and Fox back and forth several times (by the way, getting a person on the phone at Fox, whether locally or nationally, is quite difficult). I found out that Expedia never paid them, so in turn, they never paid me back the $84.64. They told me that there was a credit to my account today (how coincidental) since apparently Expedia paid them after I called them the first time. On the rental Agreement, it's clear that it was Expedia's expense to pay, yet Fox held my money until they received their payment from Expedia. Had I not initiated the calls, I never would have gotten my money, potentially. All I got was an apology, and basically the woman on the phone from Fox was saying that "sometimes companies make mistakes" (she was talking about EXPEDIA!). Secondly, the clerk who served me when I originally got the car in San Francisco was anything but polite. It was his mission to get me out of there as quickly as possible, despite that there was no line. He asked about whether I needed insurance, and when I inquired whether regular insurance normally covers you for rental car accidents, he said "You need to know your own insurance" and he went on to the next question. Then he asked me about fuel. He said that I could be charged $2.99 per gallon for gas. From the way he described it, it seemed that I didn't need to bring the tank back full, and I'd be charged at the $2.99 per gallon rate for them to fill the tank. Well, despite that I came back with the tank 3/4 full, I was charged $44.85, because apparently it was "Pre-Paid Fuel" for the whole tank. This was never made clear to me by the clerk. By the way, they ended up charging me $3.09 per gallon, rather than the originally quoted $2.99.In conclusion, I will never use this car rental company again, and I now have a bone to pick with Expedia as well. NOTE: The reason I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 is that the car itself (Chrysler PT Cruiser) was relatively new, clean, and drove well.

This company is owned by a bunch of retards. For one they have inexperienced young adults working there that have no ethics or any idea of what customer service is. Their hold message is done by someone who can barely speak. After finally getting someone on the phone they say they can't help. They will do everything to avoid any customer service calls. Be careful from their reps. they ask you to sign to decline their insurance (which they make their money off of) but it is actually accepting it. HORRIBLE COMPANY!!!! DO NOT USE THEM!!

From my letter to FoxI rented a car last Thursday 8/06/09 in Seattle and, along with many others, had a very miserable experience. I arrived at the shuttle pick up site right after the shuttle had pulled away (~11:45 AM). After waiting for 30 minutes, I called the location. There was no answer. I called again about 10 minutes later and, again, got no answer. After waiting for 45 – 50 minutes, the shuttle arrived at SeaTac Island 3. There were about 15 people waiting for the shuttle. The driver (Rosie) told us she only had space for 2 people and that she would be back around again ‘as soon as she could.’ At this point, myself and some others each took a cab to the Fox Rental Car location at a cost of $10 each. When I arrived, there was a line of about 20 people there to pick up a car. After a wait of approximately 70 minutes, I got to the front and got a car. For the first half of this time, there were 3 people at the desk. During the second half, there were 1 or 2 at the desk. The person who appeared to be the manager left while I was waiting. During this time, Rosie (the driver) was very slowly processing returns (about 1 person every 10 minutes) with customers complaining about missing their plane due to how long it was taking. Thankfully, there were very few returns. She did not leave for the airport until more than 30 minutes after she arrived. Of course, the people waiting the airport would just have been waiting at the site instead. When I was near the front of the line, a new person came into to line area and proceeded to the people at the back of the line that cars were double booked and they were going to run out. She then took 5 or 6 people to Hertz. However, this still does not explain why it took so long per customer to process and get them a car. If they were going to run out of cars, why ask the last part of the line of 20-25 people. Taking over 2 hours (approximately 135 minutes) is unacceptable. The staff was very slow, understaffed, poorly handled the impatient crowd (no explanations for how slow everything was going) and some where not very capable. Having significant experience managing retail, the manager should not have left nor let other employees leave during this situation. I believe your company has just lost a number of customers, including myself.Booked on Orbitz

Rented a car in Oakland. It wasn't ready when we got there even though we had a reservation and it SHOULD have been ready. We were told it would be ten minutes and they called us after 8 minutes and told us it was ready. So we went to the parking lot to pick it up and it wasn't there. We talked to an attendant who said they were bringing it over 'right now'. We waited and waited....for another hour. We talked to the attendant a couple more times who told us both times it would be '2 minutes'. My sister finally went back to the counter and found the worker eating a sandwich. We eventually got the car. But we were all irritated at that point.

I reserved on-line before I arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah. I even called ahead of time because I was skeptical using a 3rd party reservation system (Orbitz or Hotwire, I don't recall). The customer service on the phone was very helpful. When I arrived in Salt Lake City, it was minorly inconvenient to find the shuttle, but it was waiting when I found it. The driver was very nice. There was only one employee working at the counter, but he was fairly efficient. He offered to upgrade me to a convertible Mustang at a phenomenal price. In my hotel one night, I hopped online to see what other people thought of Fox. I was so scared that I planned to arrive a few hours early on my departure date to deal with whatever problems I was going to have. The drop-off was as smooth as it could be. I was in and out, and, again, the shuttle was waiting right there. My car (a PT Cruiser) was great, and the gas mileage made my trip less expensive than I thought it would be.My only complaint is that I wasn't informed ahead of time that any Debit Card purchase requires a $250 deposit. Again, I was skeptical, but I received the deposit in only a few days.I would do business with Fox again.

After I scheduled the rental with Fox I stumbled across some ratings on the Internet that included negative comments about Fox Rental, and that made me wonder if I had made a mistake in choosing Fox. I chose Fox because its prices were so much lower than any other company's prices. Those fears were quickly dispelled. They did not have a "standard" size car that I rented, so they upgraded to a "premium" car at no extra cost. The car was clean, full of gas, and in excellent condition. The initial charge on my credit card was $15.05 higher than the actual bill was when the car was returned, so the staff told me that amount would be credited to my credit card. We returned the car on Thursday, and the credit card company notified me about the credit posting on Monday. One could not ask for faster service. There is a slight inconvenience in having to transfer to the Fox Rental van from the general bus used by all the other car rental companies, but the van arrived promptly on schedule, and it was a very short ride to the Fox Rental facility. We were very pleased by every aspect of our experience in renting from Fox Rental. The staff were courteous, friendly, and very professional. The staff person asked whether we wanted the extra road coverage at $2.95 per day and also about the insurance coverage, but when I declined she moved on to another topic. No high pressure sales techniques of the type described by other reviewers were used. I certainly would use Fox Rental again.

*UPDATE*After contacting the Attorney General's ofice in both California, and Arizona, Fox Rent-a-Car agreed to the original reserved price, plus the cost of the GPS. What saved me was not signing the contract. As with any situation READ THE CONTRACT REGARDLESS of what the sales person says to you! In the end this worked out, but it took persistence, and 6 months of my time. One other comment. Since this issue arose, I have rented 6 other cars from other rental agencies (Hertz, and Avis), Hertz - by far - has been the best.BUYER BEWARE! - I rented a convertible from Phoenix Airport, and the sales person added all of the insurance against my wishes. I did not sign the contract, but the car was delivered to me anyway. The price I reserved on the internet was $189.28, but they charged me $340.94!(I did agree to adding a GPS at a total cost of $17, on top of what I reserved.)The Sales Manager, Scott Smith has not retuned any of my phone calls, and I'm only able to leave messages. This place sucks, and should not be allowed to do business!!!While I cannot rate this company a ZERO, I have to give this company at least a 1.

Worst experience ever. We rented from San Fran A.P. The car was great but after driving around the mountains during the busiest season (july 3-4-5), we were heading into Fresno and the car suddenly and without warning, stalled. Luckily we were on flat land and coasting to a stop (I still have nightmares of what might have been had we suddenly been without power-steering and power-brakes while making hairpin turns inches away from sheer cliffs without guardrails). I called their roadside "assistance" number and they were willing to send out a replacement car, but if the Fox mechanics detected no problem, they would charge a towing charge of $4.00/mile (I assume round-trip) from LAX which is about 440 miles (again, round-trip) = $1760. I was not willing to take a chance like that with Fox's mechanics diagnosing the problem, so I called the next morning (Monday) to talk with the manager (Shawn) about what he could do... THAT'S WHEN THE HELL BEGAN!! On the phone for over 4 hrs trying to talk to anyone with the authority to make a decisions was ridiculous. The poor gal I was talking to was constantly being told to just send out a car which I kept refusing... I wanted Fox to get a car for me from another rental company... something many rental agencies will do if they do not have representation in the area. I asked her to let me talk to ANYONE above her, but "Shawn isn't in the office". After about 1 hr on hold and calling over and over, I finally spoke with Shawn. He helped somewhat. We broke our contract and went to get a car from Enterprise with the promise from Shawn that Fox would pay us the difference... with a check. We insisted on a credit to our Visa, and that's where it sits now. We told Visa to hold all payments to Fox. He is not returning our calls.BTW: Problem with the car (a dodge charger) was that the funky key sticks in the start position without any kind of signal to the driver (no grinding engine sound like a normal car). This happened only occasionally. When it unsticks after hitting a bump, it snaps past the run position to the "acc" position, thereby stalling the car. We were able to drive the car to our hotel, but not willing to keep using the car.

Look up the reviews for all those other big car rental companies and you will find all the complaints you have read with Fox happen there too.

Fox is reliably the worst rental car company out there. Rude, incompetent, unhelpful, useless in the extreme. I would rather rent from anyone else. I would rather walk, or rent a camel, than deal with the venomous harpies in their customer service division.

Great experience in San Diego. Everything went fine. The waiting line was a little bit long but the service was excellent.

I rented from them from June 23-26. We arrived at the San Francisco airport and found the rental company. The size car we asked for was not available so they gave us the next size up, a PT Cruiser. It had bad brakes that were past the squealing stage and were actually grinding on the rotors. When we returned the car there was no-one at the return location to give the keys to so we left them in the vehicle and went to the counter. After waiting about 10 minutes someone came by on a cart from Fox and we told them where we left the car and they said they would take care of it. I had pre-payed through expedia for the entire car rental price and when I got home there was an additional $75 charged to my credit card. I called right away (it took me an hour to get through to anyone because when you press numbers to speak to the parent company in LA, it sends you right back to the same menu as before, which nobody ever answers. I did once get a voice mail box, but was informed it was full. When I finally got ahold of someone, they said their computers were down and they would look into it and call back within an hour. ONE WEEK LATER I call them back having heard nothing and again can't get through. I finally get through to someone at their corporate offices using a different number and once again explain that I was overcharged. THey looked into my account and said that the $75 was taxes and fees. Taxes and fees on a 3 day rental are $75? This makes no sense, so I asked what the total cost would have been had I booked through them directly and they said $103 for the 3 days. You mean to tell me that the rental cost is only $28 but the other 75 is fees? I asked for an itemized reciept and it only shows a little over $7 for taxes, and $7 for airport fees, and they still will not tell me what the rest of the money was charged for. Finally they were able to issue me a $42 credit and they said the other $33 was for taxes and fees, but according to the reciept they finally gave me (three weeks after rental was over) taxes and fees was only around $14. Something is fishy and I will NEVER used this car rental company again. I can't believe I used them this time. I could ahve used a larger chair and not dealt with all this hassle. I wish there wre no stars because my experience was that horrible. DO NOT USE THEM unless you want to pay much more than you expect to when taking the car, not recieve the car you expect, and also expect to have car trouble such as no brakes.

BEWARE! They promise one price on the rental agreement and when I returned the car they had about $100 in extra charges. They would not honor my original estimate and rental agreement. If you rent from them, be prepared to pay more than you think!!!

Had a chance to rent a Crossover SUV from Fox Rent a car for a weekend. Their rates are competitive. Quick and Friendly service. Their collections are usually limited and you can really count them in the Shed. Always make sure to visit their specials page (https://www.foxrentacar.com/specials.html), I got a 10% off on the entire rental just by printing the coupon from this page.

Not thrilled. Flew into SFO. Leary of company I hadn't heard of, but prices were good; they're the last kiosk from arrival in car rental area. Two desk people only - so it was kind of a long wait, but whatever. Then they didn't have the car we had reserved. Told us that the tags needed to be renewed tomorrow on it. Like I was born yesterday. We took what was available, not enthused and prepaid for it. When we brought it back we had to go in again and get the contract relooked at (no curb help signing off on car - any other company you return the car and leave). Upon review I notice my credit card was charged more for a "concession charge" or something else - even though we'd prepaid for what we were told was everything.Lousy experience. Going with the big boys from now on. Really not impressed. Really.

TIP TOP Company. No Problems at all. I will come back.

I read a lot of reviews online before I tried these guys out and I do not know what these other folks are talking about. I rented out of Seattle and it was great. 1/2 the price and everything went great. I also noticed many other car rental customers at the site both on departure and arrival and everyone seamed satisfied. I guess if you lose stuff on your trip or do not carry a credit card you should stay clear of blaming Fox. I found the place to be GREAT!Thanks FOX.

This is the worst car rental company out there. Please dont use this company. I accidently left my Garmin GPS in the vehicle when i dropped it off. I called back to see if they could mail it to me, and they said they had no GPS's in lost and found and there was NO GPS LEFT IN THE VEHICLE. I no for a fact i left it in there, because i used it to get the airport and rental drop off. I shouldnt off ever used Fox, and please dont make the same mistake I did. Any other reputable company would of returned my GPS without me calling or would of at least called me to ask if it was mine. I have rented vehicles from several other companys and have left items in the vehicles before. Never have I had a company claim they object was never in the vehicle!! DONT USE FOX!!

I should preface that I have rented a lot of cars, trucks and vans in my day. I'm not a novice at this. The only good thing I can say about Fox is the customer service was receptive when I called to complain. In the course of a 6,000 mile journey I made a reservation on line, where I had also purchased my airline tickets. Despite having my Visa and driver's license they refused to give me a car unless I could show a return ticket when I arrived (Phoenix). They assumed I would take the car to Mexico and sell it for drug money. One does not get a "return ticket" when one buys airline tickets on line, one get's "e-tickets" and one prints out a boarding pass the day of the flight, which for me would be the day I should have been returning the car. The guy at the counter was rude, unsympathetic, and unapologetic. Needless to say I rented a car from another firm (Dollar, to whom I give 5 stars) and Fox lost a sale. I don't think Fox will be in business much longer. The only thing keeping them going is their bargain basement prices but like the old adage says, you get what you pay for.

Just returned from vacation in San Diego where I gave Fox a try. I have traveled much of the world on business. This is THE WORST car rental experience I have ever had. * Took 30 minutes to get shuttle. Had to call for it. Shuttle was crowded. When I made the reservation it said shuttle ran every 8 minutes.*Took an additional 30 minutes in rental facility*Reserved the car well in advance, but they did not have the type of car I reserved when I got there.*After about 10 minutes of discussion finally got them to reduce my rate if agreed to take another car temporarily.*Was told I would be called the next day to exchange for the type of car I rented. Provided two cell phone numbers. Never received a call.*The car I was given had some minor damage which I had to get them to acknowledge before I left the lot.*The staff consistently allowed people returning cars to jump in front of those of us that were there to pick-up cars, prolonging the pick up process.*The facility was dirty and hot.*When returning the staff was rude, it was like I was doing them a favor by doing business there. Was not asked about my car, experience, etc. When I questioned why I was not called about the exchange I was told that he (the clerk) taking my return knew nothing about it. *It is ironic that everything this company says in their mission statement (see web site) was exactly the opposite in my actual experience.STAY AWAY!!

THIS IS THE BEST COMPANY, BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE! BEST RATES! WHAT ELSE CAN YOU ASK FOR? YEA YOU MIGHT HAVE TO SWITCH A CAR SOMETIMES ALL VEHICLES MESS UP! I HAD A GREAT EXPERENCE AND WILL RENT FROM FOX OVER AND OVER AGAIN!

It took (3) cars for me to get a safe care. The first one rattled horribly. I returned it the next morning, and the agent never appologized and didn't seem to care. As we drove away with the second car, the airbag warning ligh and alarm kept going off for an hour. I returned THAT car the next afternoon and the male agent was surly and gave me a car that was in HORRIFIC condition, smelled funny, the door was falling apart, but I was so annoyed that I figured that this was as good as it would get. This is a CHEAP service, and I will NOT be renting form FOX again for business trips, the $40 I saved was not worth the extra 3-4 hours of time it took to deal with the anciend and ailning fleet of cars.

This is not just the worst car rental company I have ever rented from, but also one of the WORST companies I've ever dealt with. If not the worst. Ever. Their customer service is shockingly rude and inefficient and I'm surprised they are still in business. Example: After my rental car got vandalized on a parking lot, Fox made my life HELL despite my car insurance covering it all. Fox went ahead and charged me ridiculous administrative fees that came out of the blue. Trying to get somebody at Fox to explain it to me turned into a total circus with me leaving several messages over the course of two weeks without anybody EVER getting back to me. When I then refused to leave another message, they simply kept hanging up on me (at the LAX branch). Hard to believe, I know. I then went ahead and contacted Fox Corporate and they flat out lied to me, telling me that the State of California forces them to charge me that money! When I looked into it, it turned out that that was not true. Never have I been treated, disrespected and screwed over by a large company the way Fox did. If you want your car rental experience to be easy, rent somewhere else. Don't torture yourself with Fox. You will regret it.

Fox Rent A Car in my humble opinion should be avoided at all costs. Here in San Francisco the staff is very unprofessional. It seems that the extra charges are simply a way of life for Fox. In my experience there has been an average of 30% increase in the price paid from the price quoted. All for simple things like; less than an hour late $15 extra or need FWD pay $20/day.We booked a Mid-Sized SUV and paid an upgrade fee to a full size SUV on Orbitz.com. When we arrived they put us in a Jeep Liberty, which is a mid-sized SUV. They also charged us $20/day when we requested that they put us in an AWD or 4x4. I was able to negotiate the $20 to $12/day after a significant discussion and "waiting for the manager" who was not on site. To top off this rough experience, when we got the car, there were no features; manual door locks, manual windows, no cross bar on the roof rack, no cruise control and no other feature that comes to mind.As well their return process is cumbersome and take about 30 minutes. The professional national agencies generally take about 10 minutes to return a car in my experience. In the end Fox is less professional than any other rental agency, their costs are often hidden, their staff is untrained and the cars are sub par.

we rented two cars at Las Vegas with my friend. What I booked is a one level higher car than my friend. They provide my friend and me the same type of cars at the same time when we picked the cars. But the result is I paid $50 more than my friend when we return the cars at the same time. I ask the reason, the manage told me their price changes every minute!!!. This makes me understand what is chicanery. My God. Stay away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bait and switch operation! Reserved at $17/day, got there its "out of your car" and $25/day. $10 extra rent and $10 airport fee makes xtra day $45!# Per the rental agreement, all additional rental days past return date as stated at time of rental will have a daily rate increase of $10.00 per day# If extension period is confirmed and approved estimated amount of charges for the entire rental period will be captured (charged on the credit card) and applied as deposit on the rental agreement.# An additional credit card authorization (in addition to captured estimated charges for the rental period) will be taken in the amount of $100.00. (Debit Card Rentals require estimated charges plus $250.00 as a deposit)

I can not say enough bad things about my experience at Salt Lake City - the first rental car they tried to "give me" had a flat tire and the agent told me to take it to a gas station and fill it up with air - which was unacceptable. After half an hour of going back and forth with the worst agent I have ever dealt with they gave me a "new" car which had almost 30 thousand miles on it. The company refused to honor any of my coupons printed from their website, and I watched them tell the gentlemen in front of me that he would have to pay to upgrade his car since they overbooked his vehicle class. You truly get what you pay for - they are conniving, and will try and screw you in the end. Stick with a major brand, trust me, it will pay off in the long run.
