ACS2008; You must be a Pitt fan or some other sorry college football fan. First of all our fans are rowdy, so what!!! Don't come here and expect us to be nice to you, it is college football for crying out loud! Second of all, our stadium is the best in the Big East!! Atleast we have our own stadium, Pitt and USF!! There are major upgrades coming so be on the look out for that. If you want Mountaineers to be nice to you go to the state fair or something, not a football game!!
ACS2008 08/04/2008
some of the most rudest fans in college football, ugly stadium too.
chuckbwv 04/06/2008
the mountaineers have sold out every home game for the past 3 years. do your research before u make stupid comments. the stadium has been sold out through season ticket sells for the past 3 years. i know because i am a season ticket holder. the only home games that have had single game ticket sells is when the visiting team returns tickets! another ignorant comment from someone that doesn't do their research.
WVUBean 03/27/2008
Hate to say it, but yes, our fans are out of control. We have NO bandwagon fans, unlike a lot of the colleges in larger demographic areas. You either bleed the Old Gold and Blue or you don't. It's just that simple. Anyone with a flying WV (our logo, for those of you that don't know any better) is family (and no cheap shots of "West Virginia, all related" or any of that bull, Kentucky is worse by far, and there is statistical evidence to prove it). Let's take a look into the past (listed by play season, not the actual season the bowls took place): 2002 - Continental Tire Bowl: Not a "real" bowl game, but UVA's "Band" made the "public ivy" look like a bunch of stuck-up douche-nozzles. I know, I was on the field. Nothing like hearing a group get booed off the field by their own alumni. 2003 - Toyota Gator Bowl: Sure, the team lost, but even WVU fans expected that. It was against VT the best I remember (drank a lot the night before), and that year they were the better team. But the Pride of WV blew the Marching Virginians out of the water, so it was at least a partial victory 2004 - Toyota Gator Bowl vs. FSU: Again, expected to lose, which actually happened, but FSU's band... the one that "never lost a halftime" were hanging their heads not long after WVU's obviously superior band took the field (I'm not making that up, one of FSU's tuba players told me himself). 2005 - Nokia Sugar Bowl: WVU won, Georgia lost, WVU's band won halftime, 'nuff said. 2006 - Toyota Gator Bowl: Georgia Tech loses to the underdog Mountaineers. Again, better band too. 2007 - Tostito's Fiesta Bowl: Spread offense smashes OU from the start. Schmitt, White, Devine, etc had the game of their lives. Too bad about Slaton getting hurt though. EVERY BCS game that WVU has been in during the past decade has been a win. What can the Choke-eyes say? What can VT say? What about Pitt (their "bowl game" was against us in late 2007, yeah you knocked us out of the big game, but who cares... you stayed home for new year's)? And as far as the whole beer bottle throwing, don't be jealous because your fans dont have the guts to do it. I know you want to. And don't give me the "classless" spiel. No fans have "class" wherever they are. If they do, then they don't have any heart. Bleed the Old Gold. Sweat the Beautiful Blue. Burn the couches. Mountani Semper Liberi.
jcbco7 03/22/2008
You clearly have not been to "Big time" real school atmosphere. Tailgate is standard at all schools. However, intelligence and footbal savy is not, which WVU has none! Just a bunch of drunk rednecks who feel that a toilet is anything with and open hole. Wow, how I feel for the women in that town! Worst of all you can't sell out a small stadiunm when ranked in the top 10. How pathetic!! Big East should stick to basketball. At least you have Huggie Bear!
famousbill 03/12/2008
although small, still an awesome atmosphere with the most passionate fans around. a GREAT place to experience a college football game.
MNTN33R 03/11/2008
Night games are an event not to be missed.
wc123dawg 02/15/2008
Pathetically small. Not big time college football.
TOinWV 01/22/2008
Too small....Its all about the money and what top teams want to play a big game in a stadium that seats 80,000 or less...This is a problem with many of the big east stadiums. Also,no major airport in town is a drawback..Who wants to fly into Pittsburgh then travel 70+ miles to Morgantown to play at Mountaineer Field.
Diggs59 12/04/2007
Quite possibly a top 10 venue during a night game. The Fans are rowdy, tailgating is second to none, and there's nothing like 60,000 people singing Country Roads in unison after a victory.
BCSsucks 09/07/2007
If you go to Morgantown for a WVU game and are not prepared to see people urinating on the field after the game, throwing trash cans on people's heads, having beer bottles thrown at you, being cussed out by their backwards fans, or giving you the bird then you should not go. I was treated better in Tuscaloosa wearing an Auburn hat than I was in Morgantown when I was six years old! My personal suggestion: Do not go unless you have thicker skin than a rhinocerous, because this is the definition of disgusting and classless fan behavior.
Bench550 08/17/2007
Nice facility, however this is ruined by it's rude and ignorant fans. If you enjoy getting cussed by children and adults alike this is the place.Visiting fans attendance will continue to decline due to this behavior.Which will only cost the athletic department and this small community money.
livingend 08/05/2007
Anyone that is hating on Mountaineer Field really has no idea wtf they are talking about. The tailgating is great, atmosphere is amazing, and game experience is second to none.
wvuproducer 07/25/2007
I'm a WVU alum. I'm naturally biased. But with the growth of the program the sky is the limit for Mountaineer Field. The capacity will grow, the height of the luxury boxes at the north endzone were capped so the upper deck could eventually loop around the top. It should push seating capacity to 80,000. At least that's the plan. It was my only hope when I donated to the Athletic Department that Mountaineer Field remain the home of the team for decades to come. That building, while simple in design, has the potential to become as legendary as Michigan Stadium or the 12th Man. And as for my fellow mountaineers, we are a coarse bunch. I've thrown my share of beer bottles at opposing fans in my day. There is no excuse for that behavior... but remember that most West Virginians are civilized, caring, courteous people.
BoooHooos 07/16/2007
Checking the ratings from all the "haters" says it all. Not a great venue for the visiting teams or their fans ... that is what college football is all about.
kyankees07 05/03/2007
Small seating capacity. Small stadium in West Virginia. Drunks. Not much to like.
hokieT 04/08/2007
lets go pacman jones
portecrayon 01/31/2007
If the stadium was empty during a game it might rate a five star! Go burn a couch you losers! You will NEVER win a National Championship!
collegefbalfan 11/25/2006
For it only being a little bit over 60,000 it's as loud as Kyle Field and Florida that are 90,000+. Fans here are friendly if you wear the tradional home colors of old gold and blue. You come here in the daytime you have a 10% chance if that of comming out alive, but night time games forget it you will lose Why haen't they played a home night game on a saturday since VT in '03. If your a visiting fan and you come into the game cocky as shit and being a little douche bag. Your going to be physically intimidated. If you stay long enough after the mountaineer win you will see 60,000+ sway back in forth singing the john denver classic Country Roads. Overall critics of west virginia saying they arent good and don't deserve a bsc game come here and say it.
ncstVTftbll 09/29/2006
Impressive wins over Georgia and Maryland I hate Georgia..and the SEC
jdml 07/25/2006
The stadium isn't the best, and neither is the atmosphere. However, I've partied my face off many times in and around Mountaineer field and I love it. As for the couch burnings, not everything in this world has to make sense. Just hope it's not your couch. CHEERS, BEERS AND THE MOUNTAINEERS!!

Unbelievable environment for college football!!!
namath12 04/17/2006
I was at mountaineer field in 2003, it was just ok. Nothing special, fans were great though, easy parking, the stadium itself was just average.

Look in the dictionary for "dump," and Mountaineer Field will be pictured for context. The smell inside is horrid, it smells like what poop would call poop. You should be fine with nose plugs, if the gaseous fumes don't poison your lungs first. Do go there! It's horrid! Recruits, listen to me. Avoid this dump like the plague, lest you wish infection!
thanks1 01/30/2006
Disappointing.
purplemnkey87 01/27/2006
I'm a WVU student but I'm not biased. Mountaineer field is a fun environment to watch a football game in. The fans are a loud, obnoxious bunch, and I like that. A lot of people say we're classless fans, and maybe we are. West Virginia doesn't have any major pro sports (minor league hockey and baseball doesn't count) so within the state there is a big following of loyal fans. Mountaineer field is not in the same class as the big boys IMO only due to size. Beaver stadium blows Mountaineer field away as an intense environment only because they have close to twice as many people in the stands. With Hardesty (WVU pres.)accepting excessive amounts of freshman every year eventually WVU could have a gynormous stadium, but now its just an average looking / sized stadium with VERY passionate fans. Oh yeah, and we beat Georgia. hehehe.

WVUownsVT 01/01/2006
VT sucks cow balls. Frank Beamers needs a kick in his sweet potato.
RonMexJr 12/23/2005
We were so scared of WVU, we quit playing them. We try and be just like you guys. We even copied your logo. All we have to show for our efforts of losing big games is an empty trophy case.
Pittsnoggled! 12/23/2005
The best!! VT only wishes they had more tradition than WVU. Before 97, no one even knew who VT was. Now they win a few games but will always be known as the Chokies. They choke in every big game they play. Enjoy your lower tier bowl...you losers.
WVUHANK 12/19/2005
The best stadium in college football!!!!!!!!!! WVU rocks!!!!!

If you're a recruit and wish your talents to die, go here. It's only a matter of time before the Big Deceased loses its BCS bid and competes with MAC and Sun Belt conferences for its bowl games. This is already happening, but I'm talking about Big East #1 vs. Sun Belt #1. Also, if you visit this stadium, you'll need to bring a backpack full of equipment: 1) Ear plugs (to escape from all the classy 4-letter words directed at you, even when you're trying to use the toilet in peace) 2) Nose plugs (unless you're into breathing smelly mountainmen odor) 3) Water purifiers (in case you get a cup pulled from the trash) 4) Toilet paper (their restrooms don't have any of this) 5) Box of Skoal (when charged by Mountaineer fans, throw this to your flank to buy some time in your escape) 6) A Holy Bible (for spiritual protection; "The power of Christ compels you!")
GOWVUVTSUX 11/11/2005
THE BEST EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Top Crowd In College Football!!!!!!!
VallejoGuy92 11/04/2005
I have atteneded over 25 college games, 3 in Morgantown. Mountaineer Field is the nicest of them all. True, it does not have years of history like other stadiums in the country. But it is the most, dare i say it, NFL like true college stadium out there. I live in Northern California, and both D-1A schools here would love to have something as nice as WVU's stadium.
GOWVU 11/03/2005
That Bo Sox guy is gay....what would he know. Mountaineer Field rocks!!!!!!
BOSOX1 10/28/2005
Come on. You mountaineer fans know that this isn't the best stadium in the land. This is so embarrassing to see that college football's #1 stadium barely seats 60,000. What is the loudest this place has ever been? Yes, you do have good coaches players, fans (not sure about the burning couches thing, but hey, whatever floats your boat) but your stadium isn't that great.
eeP 10/19/2005
Nothing beats hearing mountaineer fanscheer on their team after thumping Pitt or VT, or even edging out Miami.
