the mountaineers have sold out every home game for the past 3 years. do your research before u make stupid comments. the stadium has been sold out through season ticket sells for the past 3 years. i know because i am a season ticket holder. the only home games that have had single game ticket sells is when the visiting team returns tickets! another ignorant comment from someone that doesn't do their research.

Hate to say it, but yes, our fans are out of control. We have NO bandwagon fans, unlike a lot of the colleges in larger demographic areas. You either bleed the Old Gold and Blue or you don't. It's just that simple. Anyone with a flying WV (our logo, for those of you that don't know any better) is family (and no cheap shots of "West Virginia, all related" or any of that bull, Kentucky is worse by far, and there is statistical evidence to prove it). Let's take a look into the past (listed by play season, not the actual season the bowls took place):

2002 - Continental Tire Bowl: Not a "real" bowl game, but UVA's "Band" made the "public ivy" look like a bunch of stuck-up douche-nozzles. I know, I was on the field. Nothing like hearing a group get booed off the field by their own alumni.

2003 - Toyota Gator Bowl: Sure, the team lost, but even WVU fans expected that. It was against VT the best I remember (drank a lot the night before), and that year they were the better team. But the Pride of WV blew the Marching Virginians out of the water, so it was at least a partial victory

2004 - Toyota Gator Bowl vs. FSU: Again, expected to lose, which actually happened, but FSU's band... the one that "never lost a halftime" were hanging their heads not long after WVU's obviously superior band took the field (I'm not making that up, one of FSU's tuba players told me himself).

2005 - Nokia Sugar Bowl: WVU won, Georgia lost, WVU's band won halftime, 'nuff said.

2006 - Toyota Gator Bowl: Georgia Tech loses to the underdog Mountaineers. Again, better band too.

2007 - Tostito's Fiesta Bowl: Spread offense smashes OU from the start. Schmitt, White, Devine, etc had the game of their lives.
Too bad about Slaton getting hurt though.

EVERY BCS game that WVU has been in during the past decade has been a win. What can the Choke-eyes say? What can VT say? What about Pitt (their "bowl game" was against us in late 2007, yeah you knocked us out of the big game, but who cares... you stayed home for new year's)?

And as far as the whole beer bottle throwing, don't be jealous because your fans dont have the guts to do it. I know you want to. And don't give me the "classless" spiel. No fans have "class" wherever they are. If they do, then they don't have any heart.

Bleed the Old Gold. Sweat the Beautiful Blue. Burn the couches. Mountani Semper Liberi.

You clearly have not been to "Big time" real school atmosphere. Tailgate is standard at all schools. However, intelligence and footbal savy is not, which WVU has none! Just a bunch of drunk rednecks who feel that a toilet is anything with and open hole. Wow, how I feel for the women in that town! Worst of all you can't sell out a small stadiunm when ranked in the top 10. How pathetic!! Big East should stick to basketball. At least you have Huggie Bear!

Too small....Its all about the money and what top teams want to play a big game in a stadium that seats 80,000 or less...This is a problem with many of the big east stadiums. Also,no major airport in town is a drawback..Who wants to fly into Pittsburgh then travel 70+ miles to Morgantown to play at Mountaineer Field.

Quite possibly a top 10 venue during a night game. The Fans are rowdy, tailgating is second to none, and there's nothing like 60,000 people singing Country Roads in unison after a victory.

If you go to Morgantown for a WVU game and are not prepared to see people urinating on the field after the game, throwing trash cans on people's heads, having beer bottles thrown at you, being cussed out by their backwards fans, or giving you the bird then you should not go. I was treated better in Tuscaloosa wearing an Auburn hat than I was in Morgantown when I was six years old! My personal suggestion: Do not go unless you have thicker skin than a rhinocerous, because this is the definition of disgusting and classless fan behavior.

Mountaineer Field is a great place to see a good college football game. For visiting fans, it is a hostile enviroment, but what do you expect? It is a beautiful stadium and we recently got a million dollar upgrade to the field. WVU should have the best field turf in all of football. NCAA or the NFL. The only downside to the stadium is that it only holds 60,000 + fans. It could hold alot more and should. We should be able to hold atleast 70-80,000.

Nice facility, however this is ruined by it's rude and ignorant fans. If you enjoy getting cussed by children and adults alike this is the place.Visiting fans attendance will continue to decline due to this behavior.Which will only cost the athletic department and this small community money.

I'm a WVU alum. I'm naturally biased. But with the growth of the program the sky is the limit for Mountaineer Field. The capacity will grow, the height of the luxury boxes at the north endzone were capped so the upper deck could eventually loop around the top. It should push seating capacity to 80,000. At least that's the plan.

It was my only hope when I donated to the Athletic Department that Mountaineer Field remain the home of the team for decades to come. That building, while simple in design, has the potential to become as legendary as Michigan Stadium or the 12th Man.

And as for my fellow mountaineers, we are a coarse bunch. I've thrown my share of beer bottles at opposing fans in my day. There is no excuse for that behavior... but remember that most West Virginians are civilized, caring, courteous people.

Checking the ratings from all the "haters" says it all. Not a great venue for the visiting teams or their fans ... that is what college football is all about.

I'm a WVU student but I'm not biased. Mountaineer field is a fun environment to watch a football game in. The fans are a loud, obnoxious bunch, and I like that. A lot of people say we're classless fans, and maybe we are. West Virginia doesn't have any major pro sports (minor league hockey and baseball doesn't count) so within the state there is a big following of loyal fans. Mountaineer field is not in the same class as the big boys IMO only due to size. Beaver stadium blows Mountaineer field away as an intense environment only because they have close to twice as many people in the stands. With Hardesty (WVU pres.)accepting excessive amounts of freshman every year eventually WVU could have a gynormous stadium, but now its just an average looking / sized stadium with VERY passionate fans. Oh yeah, and we beat Georgia. hehehe.

If you're a recruit and wish your talents to die, go here. It's only a matter of time before the Big Deceased loses its BCS bid and competes with MAC and Sun Belt conferences for its bowl games. This is already happening, but I'm talking about Big East #1 vs. Sun Belt #1. Also, if you visit this stadium, you'll need to bring a backpack full of equipment: 1) Ear plugs (to escape from all the classy 4-letter words directed at you, even when you're trying to use the toilet in peace) 2) Nose plugs (unless you're into breathing smelly mountainmen odor) 3) Water purifiers (in case you get a cup pulled from the trash) 4) Toilet paper (their restrooms don't have any of this) 5) Box of Skoal (when charged by Mountaineer fans, throw this to your flank to buy some time in your escape) 6) A Holy Bible (for spiritual protection; "The power of Christ compels you!")

I have atteneded over 25 college games, 3 in Morgantown. Mountaineer Field is the nicest of them all. True, it does not have years of history like other stadiums in the country. But it is the most, dare i say it, NFL like true college stadium out there. I live in Northern California, and both D-1A schools here would love to have something as nice as WVU's stadium.

Come on. You mountaineer fans know that this isn't the best stadium in the land. This is so embarrassing to see that college football's #1 stadium barely seats 60,000. What is the loudest this place has ever been? Yes, you do have good coaches players, fans (not sure about the burning couches thing, but hey, whatever floats your boat) but your stadium isn't that great.

First off, in response to WVUSUCKS post, you really should check your spelling and grammar because you sound like these hillbillies you obviously hate. Unless you are trying to parody the hillbilly stereotype and, if that is the case and I seriously doubt that it is, you accomplished your goal of sounding like a complete moron. Now onto my comment about Mountaineer Field. The fact that you have roughly 60,000 screaming fans who love their team and would do almost anything asked to ensure a victory for their beloved Mountaineers is what makes this stadium great. I remember sitting in a section down near where the Mountaineers come out. When the refs would make a call that went against the Mountaineers (even if they actually committed the infraction) you would hear some fans threatening to burn down the refs house. LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MOUNTAINEERS!!!!!!! Don't burn couches.

I've made it a habit to go to a new stadium every year and I have to tell you that WVU ranks near the top of my list for being loud and for an energetic atmosphere, but I can tell you one thing, I have never ran into poorer fans. I was cussed, spit at, and while walking by The Pit I saw way more dirty dicks then I ever wanted to see pissing all over there own stadium grounds. I'm old enough and mature enough to give credit where credit is due for stadium atmosphere, but you guys really need to work on your fan base... clean up your act and grow up to a better level. Nothing made up here... you still get my 3 'cause I honestly think that's what you deserve.

I wrekin dat dis hear stadgeum iz onna da mos hostile and ruthless ever. A dentists dream. Does anyone here have any teeth? everyone spits every 4 seconds on you. Smells like something died under my seat (woodchuck). Also smells like piss. Everyone is drunk, then they drive out of the parking lot like they're drunk. Very dirty, reminds me of the Philadelphia stadium that got demolished. The only thing missing is satan and this place would officially be............ But I guess if your're a West Virginia fan then its ok because ur used to spitting and being spit on and you don't care about that and can enjoy rooting for the team. I will admit drunk fans do make more noise and make for a more exiting atmosphere.... too exiting. Tip; don't wear road team colors unless you like fresh spit and heckling.

When it comes to the total college gameday experience, Mountaineer Field is it ! 1.) Plenty of tailgating 2.) Award-winning marching band, whose pregame preformance is breathtaking. 3.) Very loud and loyal fans. 4.) With the new addition of suites, the Mountaineer field looks great. 5.) For only holding 60,000 fans, it sounds more like 100,000 on defensive 3rd downs.
