 01/27/2006 | Deservedly worshipped by its cult, oddly ignored by everybody else. By far the greatest of the post-first generation punkers, a genre stupidly called "hardcore" by some idiots. "Double Nickles on the Dime" is one of the best albums ever, so incredibly inventive and intelligent. Seven or eight tracks from that monumental achievement surpass in quality everything Paul McCartney has done since the Beatles, and point up Wuss Springsteen to be exactly what he is: a grossly overrated pompous blowhard. And even the punk/new wave bands that were supposed to have something, like Black Flag and the Dead Kennedys, come up way short in comparison. Bless you, D. Boone, wherever you may be...
