Update: Juan Pierre's numbers have fallen a bit in the last few years. He hasn't hit over .300 in the last four seasons, and thats a big deal for a guy who doesn't walk a lot and has almost no power. He still steals a lot of bases, but that hasn't translated into a 100 run season over the last four years either. All of that while playing 162 games a year. He seems to have fallen out of favor this year in Los Angeles and isn't getting as many opportunities as he usually does. He has a different style than most players, and it is fun to watch. However, he just hasn't gotten the job done enough lately to be considered an elite player.
10/3/2003 - Juan Pierre is a great leadoff hitter, who has been responsible for a lot of the success of the Marlins this year.

He's developed some power to go with those wheels. Starting to make a believer out of me.

He shouldn't have signed with the Cubs. He's hitting .240 and has been a disappointment, but that's the Chicago Cubs for ya. He was a solid hitter who averaged around 50 stolen bases per year with the Marlins though.

Finally... Cubs get a GREAT (not a good) leadoff hitter. That is what we have been waiting for. 98 years since a world series, is Juan Pierre (one of, if not the best lead-off hitters in the game) the answer? We'll see in '06!

he is the best player ever

Why do you think the Marlins won the World Series?

He is a superb player who can get by only hitting for average not power. My kind of player.

I love Juan Pierre, I am a Mets fan and I wish we had him instead of that bum Mike Cameron. Juan Pierre to me is the best leadoff hitter in the game, even better than Ichiro. He doesn't strike out, he gets 200 hits a year, he hits for average, he can bunt, and he steals bases. He was the Co-MVP in the World Series in my book. He is one of the main reasons for the Florida Marlins success. He gets my vote!

Good slap-hitter, ala Ichiro. Like Ichiro, he doesn't walk much. Main difference is that Ichiro is a better-version )hits for a higher average, and has more power). Does steal more bases than Ichiro, on the go-go Marlins. Another difference is that Pierre is more consistent. Ichiro runs out of gas every August and his stats nosedive.

I love this guy. Juan Pierre personnifies the Florida Marlins. He is young, cocky, fast, and scrappy. With 200+ hits, lots of walks, and blazing speed, he is the perfect lead off man. Also, he seems to be an amazing clubhouse guy. Every time the camera pans across the Marlins' dugout, you can see Pierre - laughing, joking with his teammates, and getting them fired up. Pierre is a huge reason the Marlins blew by the bickering Phils to win the wild card, and looks to be having an impact on the Giants series as well.
