Chavez vs. Taylor 1 (1990) 5

well, i just downloaded this fight many years too late i heard the result wen it happened. But omg what a fight! and what a fighter chavez was. Taylor was as flashy as the tassles on his boots he had speed and flurries but what he didnt have was chavez unbelievable stamina and power. to me chavez is the best fighter iv seen, including Hagler, Leanord, or Duran. He simply would not lose. I watched the fight with japenese commentary so i was surprised to hear Taylor was ahead goin into the 12th. Gold medal winner or not Taylor was clever and quick, but Chavez is a Legend and found a way to win.Steele was right to stop it, hes not the time keeper after all. pedro

Chavez was breaking Taylor apart for the later rounds to finish him off in the 12th.The Fight was close and if it would go the distance,Chavez would of still won.

Boxing is about heart. And in a match where both fighters had heart, it comes down to thier will to survive. JC did just that.

Incredible fight. Chavez rightfully won the fight. Taylor was landing blows left and right through the fight, but if he could have stood for another full round, he probably would have been killed by internal damage. I saw an interview with Taylor today. It's sad. He's had so much brain damage that you can barely understand his speech. What perhaps is the saddest thing is that he is in the position of having no choice but to continue fighting to feed himself and his family.

perhaps one of the most amazing fights ever and a true classic.im mexican 100% but i got to say that taylor was robbed.for one,if you watch closely when taylor gets up and the ref asks him are you okay you can see taylor nod his head saying yes!.you can see this best if you have this on dvd or vhs and pause it the moment taylor lands to the canvas and play it in slow motion until the ref stops the fight.also, chavez left his nuetral corner and the ref turned around and saw him not once but twice while he was giving taylor the 8 count and did not stop the count like the rules of boxing state.

Julio Cesar Chavez knocked out Meldrick Taylor with 2 seconds left! Chavez left the ring on the shoulders of his handlers headed for the history books and the Hall of Fame. Taylor left the Hilton on a stretcher and taken to a hospital where he was suffering from broken facial bones, vomitting blood, bleeding in both kidneys, and loss of two pints of blood. Once again, Richard Steele made the RIGHT call. It was a classic text book stoppage. Taylor got up but failed to answer Steele's questions. Instead he was wobbling on unsteady legs, hanging onto the ropes to hold himself up and looking away with a blank look on his face. Afterwards on HBO Taylor said he didn't remember Steele asking him any questions. As it was, Steele had a handle on the situation and the great Julio Cesar Chavez rightfully won in the Most Dramatic Finish of All Time.

Great action fight. I sure would love to believe that Richard Steele did the honorable thing, and not the Don King thing with this fight, but it sure was fishy. Meldrick was way ahead on points but as a fight fan I could see that even though Julio was not winning he was beating the snot, physically out of Meldrick. But to stop it like that in the last round...mmmm..I just don't know. But what a great action fight.

I wasn't entirely into boxing at the time but seen the fight later on. WOW!! Regardless of who really shoulda won, both men had heart. Unfortunately for Taylor, even if he would have won, he would have been in the same boat his is in now. Sad to say but that was a ruthless beating he took. In my opinion, Chavez was one of the greatest fighters of all time. I am sad to see him go but the time comes when you gotta set those gloves aside. Just like Randyman mentioned, Taylor connected more shots but when JC connected...Oh LAWD...WATCH OUT NOW!!! They connected like a sledgehammer.

I belong to the camp that knows Chavez won AND deserved the win. At the end it was Taylor, not Chavez who was bloodied and beaten. It was absolutely an exciting fight and Taylor was the faster man. But in a fight like this you have to judge much more then the superficial. Chavez relentless body shots were taking thier toll on Taylor. Where as Taylor was landing at almost twice the rate of Chavez, Chavez punches had twice the effect of Taylors punches, in truth, closer to three times the effect. Chavez incredible will and stamina saved the day for him and took the fight out of the hands of the judges. Richard Steele did the right thing. There was no robbery Taylor was a beaten man. Chavez destroyed Taylor, and Taylor was never the same man. I'm sure it was a hard pill for Taylor fans to swallow.
