 | irishgit (138) 03/19/2007 | Not even close to the horse that Secretariat or Man O' War were. His victory over War Admiral in a match race was a stunning triumph, as was his victory in the Big 'Cap at Santa Anita as a seven year old.

He was not a naturally gifted or flashy champion - arguably he wasn't even intrinsically better than War Admiral, despite beating him in their famous match race.
But his immense courage and durability mark him as a horse for the ages and he is not merely a sentimental favourite - he was genuinely classy and his performances bear the stamp of true merit and he would not have been out of place racing against today's stars.
It is a racing truism that good horses never come back from injury - well this one did and the history of the sport is all the better for it.
The movie surely took lots of liberties with the facts, but the real story of Seabiscuit is an elevating and inspiring one anyway.
Watch the footage of the match race - it was one of the all time great moments in ANY sport.

 | Ruffianfan4life (0) 01/28/2005 | The biscuit deserves to be at the top of all the greats lists. He ran, not with long legs(Man O' War), not with pure speed to burn(Secratariat), but on heart alone. Seabiscuit was a come from behind horse. He came from the bottom of the trashy racehorses, to the top of the greats. He came from the back of the feild, to steal the win. He deserves to be King. He was no pampered baby colt,as most of the greats were. When he met up with the Admiral on the track, he seemed to say Now lets realy race, now lets show them what were made of. But the Admiral couldn't take this come from behind loser. Seabiscuit had to much heart and pride to lose, and the Admiral couldn't match heart with this tiny horse that challenged him.Too bad, so sad.

 | BillPlaschke@latimes (0) 07/01/2004 | Seabiscuit is one of the all-time horses to ever race in the horse racing tournament. He won races like magic. His legs were very strong and for a strong horse he was very fast. I would rank him second all-time on the Greatest Horse.

 | PzKpfw VI E (27) 03/31/2004 | Son of the horse 'Hard Track' and, of course, grandson of Man o 'War, maybe the greatest Thoroughbred of all time. Seabiscuit was a great horse with a great story. He had many stunning victories on the West Coast and his rivalry with War Admiral brought people back to the sport of horse racing. But, what about Seabiscuit's performance in his second Santa-Anita Handicap? He didn't win the race but it was one of the greatest spectacles in horse racing. He finished a close second but nonetheless ran possible the greatest race of all time. And his third attempt and first victory at the Santa Anita Handicap was the second fastest mile-and-a quarter in American history. This was a great horse and probable one of the greatest Colts of all time.
