 | Midiot (0) 07/16/2008 | 790 KABC brough "Imus in The Morning" to my radio. Now, I don't turn the radio on until 5:00 when "McIntyre in The Morning" airs.
Imus is boring, depressing, incipid, pedestrian and no way to 'start the day'.
Fortunately, I have KRLA at this time of morning. Why is KABC so desperate?

Imus is paid to 'shock'. Some people listen to Imus because he says shocking things, and some people just like to hear someone saying things as they really feel instead of what is politically correct - they used to call it honesty - As far as whether or not he is racist is anybody's guess. If he wasn't before Sharpton's attack, it is hard to believe he isn't somewhat now. I think I would be...especially after the intense apology, and Sharpton’s more than self-righteous refusal to accept the apology. What absolute hypocrisy! That is the disgusting and repugnant part of this whole story.
I've listened to Imus for years and just don't see the racism that everyone is talking about. A true racist is a 'racist' and harbors actual hate and loathing for another race. Sharpton is more of a racist than Imus, but gets away with it because it's politically ok to be racist against whites. What is getting old is the absolute outrage that can be generated by almost anyone saying, "that's a horrible thing to say" and then one by one everyone falling like dominoes repeating it without even thinking, and then totally and absolutely condemning the person who said it.
Actually, to present the Rutger girls as whimpering, naive, vulnerable innocent victims is to me far more insulting. Actually they play sports in a public arena that I'm sure spews words at them constantly that are far worse than what Imus said. Anyone attending competitive sports events knows what I'm talking about. Fans can beat up on opposing teams with venom and fury, and do. So I doubt if any of the girls have virgin ears to begin with and are far, far stronger & more capable than they have been made out to be. As far as the term ‘nappy headed’ being a racist term, that is total and absolute baloney.
If black people consider the term ‘racist’ it’s only because they bought it as such. My blond haired, blue eyed niece used to sleep hard and then wake up ‘nappy headed’ with her little curls plastered tight against her head and with sleep in her eyes. We always called her a nappy-headed little girl. How that has turned into a so-called racist term is far, far beyond me. The term ‘ho’ is obviously street slang used by the hip crowd, both black & white, along with ‘bitch’ etc to describe women/girls in a somewhat friendly way..,,,,,,,that’s what makes it hip ……or whatever terminology is in today. The Rutgers girls know that, and that’s why most of them said they would have probably just ‘blown’ it off….except Sharpton and company intervened and told them what a horrible thing had happened to them etc. The girls were used and abused by Sharpton far more than by Imus. That’s the crime.

 | PSF11 (2) 04/13/2007 | Like most of these incidents, there's no shortage of hypocrisy, nonsense and truth on both sides of the issue. Is Imus a racist? Who knows what's in his heart and it's his business. Should he have said what he did? Of course not-- it was stupid. Should he be punished? Probably. Should he be fired? Probably not-- it's not like this is the first time. His bosses know what he is and they didn't mind him doing his thing as long as the bucks kept flowing in. Should THEY be fired? Should the black talking heads be mad? Sure, but isn't it time they look at their own community and speak with such righteous indignation about much greater harm that their own brothers are doing to young black people through rap and other bad behaviors? Are they burning so much energy to TRULY help their community, or just to aggrandize themselves through demagoguery? I think the latter. Imus's sin is actually tiny compared to so many other outrages being spewed about the county, but his is unforgivable because his is politically incorrect. Who wins here? Nobody but the media who gets another big bowl full of sensationalism to feed on until the novelty wears off.

 | whateverusay (0) 04/12/2007 | I believe that this incident has been blowed entirely out of proportion. There have been comments made by other music stars, actors, politicians, etc. that I feel demean others much more than the "Nappy, headed hoes" comment. The fact that the man is now going to actually be punished for the comment is RICICULOUS. If he cannot say such comments, then hip hop stars should not be able to speak there minds openly through their lyrics on MTV. Look at all the comments that are out there degrading President Bush. Come on people, this was NOT meant to be a racial slur. Its funny how these things work. We do not see the Native Americans, Jews, Christians, etc. screaming for money because they were discriminated against in the past. I realize that this has nothing to do with Imus directly, but I am simply stating that the NAACP are entirely too quick to step in and yell RACISM. Lets face it, many different races have been slaves in history, including my own heritage, but that was the past and will remain the past. Many of the problems that African Americans face have many other roots than slavery. Anyway, this incident is ridiculous. As far as Im concerned, I could care less. Most of the players do have nappy hair. If someone causes me a curly haired hoe, the only part that would be fause is the Hoe section. Now, do we know each and everyone of these females, hell, he may have a point. Im sure that at least 1 of the women are a nappy headed hoe. Get over it. If you dont like what he says, then change the channel.

 | SchadenfreudianSlip (18) 04/11/2007 | So? Do we need more examples of how the denizens of perqs and privilege live their lives? And what they think of the rest of us? If he were objectionable to the Bigs at the top of the MSNBC food chain, he would have been so gone years ago. I'm sorry to keep harping on this, but this country is going through a sociological and economic cycle with plenty of examples throughout history.
As a civilization matures, it develops a middle class (if the civilization can survive long enough) from the loins of the "enlightened" rich. When the rich and the new rich become sufficiently put off by the middle class and its liberal rantings, rights are slowly withdrawn, devolving the civilization; those with the money and power make it a living hell for the rest of us. Imus' comments were nothing more than a reflection of how abhorrent the rich and powerful think of the rest of us, irrespective of race...but race is indeed a lightning rod now, isn't it!

 | XxMAGlCxX (0) 04/11/2007 | The interview with Matt Lauer, simulcast on both MSNBC and NBC's Today Show, once again gave Imus a chance to show just how lightly he is taking this whole incident. Lauer brought up the Gwen Ifill comment in which Imus referred to the PBS correspondent as a "cleaning lady". Brushing that incident off as happening back "...during the Reagan administration." Yeah?....so what?? It shows his propensity, his pattern if behavior as well as the mindset to berate minorities for humor. Time and time again he uses racial slurs as comedy and when he's called on it, a half hearted apology comes out along with a promise to never do it again only to have it happen again. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, ....it's a duck and Imus is a racist. A leopard doesn't change it's spots. The sponsors should, as some are, boycott your show and pull their ads and the people should boycott Greening the Cleaning and Imus Ranch products. You just can't make this stuff up! Know what I mean "I-man"??

 | pemonade (0) 04/10/2007 | Regardless of the man's offhanded , racially slanted, and unintelligent comment on young women playing basketball, there sure wasn't personal and venemous hatred in it as there
is in several of these comments here which I have just read.
Excuse me if I'm not Black and still believe in civil rights for all people of all
ethnic backgrounds and sexes, including those of the good ol' boy rancher type. He's man
enough to apologize in a consistent and disciplined manner. He should not be 'tried in
public' for the R and B garbage talk that rolls off of music CD s' into the youth culture
especially Black Youth culture and eventually filters through into the culture at large.
The man's job is to observe the news publicly with wry humor. He went too far with it
and picked up on that lingo that's in the culture, largely because of a few Black musicians.
Blaming one Journalist who happens to be a white male who used Black English vernacular is
not going to do the job of setting a good example for Black youth and encourage young
Black people(they don't use African American much on my block)to clean up their language habits even
if it is 'politically correct'.

 | Randyman (105) 04/09/2007 | I'm no fan of Don Imus or his show, and even if I was, it's on to early for me, so if he gets fired it won't mean diddly to me, and I don't condone anything he said. Having said that, I don't think he should be fired because of public outcry for his racially stupid statement "nappy headed hos" in refering to the Rutger University womens basketball team. If people want to stop listening to his show and his ratings drop and the sponsors pull their ads and his show goes off the air, so be it, but to arbitrarily fire the man for a statement seems to infringe upon an individuals right to free speech. It was a lousy thing to say but I don't want to ruin his life because of it.
I especially don't understand why everyone that says some racially idiotic remark has to be hauled off in front of Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson, given their own penchant for equally degrading racial remarks toward whites. I don't know that Imus has made a habit of making racially charged statements, his apology should be taken at face value. Who hasn't said something stupid?
Update: I just heard that Imus has been suspended, but somehow that is not enough. One thing that really seems unfair to me is when I see African American comedians ridicule white people ad nauseam in their comic routines, especially country music stars and fans. As a Mexican American, I don't like it when George Lopez and Paul Rodriguez do it either. It seems what is good for the geese should be good for the gander. In other words don't dish it out if you can't take it. If you want to end racism it has to be across the board, no exceptions, period!

 | GoinDownSlow (26) 04/09/2007 | Bigoted, racist, piece of shit. I'm not sure why anyone is supprised by his latest comment, since talking out of his ass has been a trademark of his for years. Has insulted virtually every race and ethnic group on the planet, but does seem to single out blacks for his special brand of hate.
Had Tom Oliphant on today. This liberal pissant, an erstwhile employee of the left of reality Boston Globe, actually defended Dumb Imus because he 1) gives money to asthma causes and blacks suffer more from the disease than any other group (WTF!?), 2) because his wife works at an East Harlem center (WTF!?), 3) because he once had Bill Russell on his show for an interview (WTF!? WTF!?). Apparently, according to this punk, as long as you give money or somewhat support a specifc cause, it grants you special liberties to insult and demean. He needs to go as much as Anus does for defending him!
Luckily though, unless you listen to him on radio, the chance of getting to know this boob is remote since his "show" is carried on MSNBC, which has, according to Neilson, a total viewing audience of 6.3 people. Update: This guy has made a career out of saying stupid things. Understand,
this isn't the first or even tenth time he's done this. I used to
listen to him for years until his act got tiring and it was not
uncommon to hear him or Bernard say shit like "jiggabo" or "tar baby"
when referring to blacks...and those are the ones I can think of off
hand.
Frankly, though, what really pisses me off is the way this
is being treated by some people who appear regularly on his show, and
who would be otherwise overcome with righteous indignation and rage if
it came from someone with whom they disagreed with, politically
speaking.
Enter Tom Oliphant. The only reason this dickless (whoops)
was defending, if you can call it that, the comment is because he is an
Imus lap dog. Rest assured that if anyone else from the opposite side
of his political viewpoint had made a remark like that, he'd be pissing
his panties in anger over how disgusting the statement was. If you can,
Lexus/Nexus Oliphant and read some of his Op-Ed columns when he was
employed by the Boston Globe and you'll get the picture. He's to the
left of Denise Kucinich.
To put it bluntly, if Sean Hannity had
made the remark, he would have been fired within ten minutes. The
hypocrisy on this issue is disturbing to say the least...

 | EschewObfuscation (65) 04/09/2007 | Al Sharpton has his own freaking radio show? Even if that were true, who on earth could have heard the comment as it aired, perhaps someone poring over a transcript somewhere? Ah, how the white liberal guilt overflows when the word racist can be levelled at some white guy, ANY white guy. Like Al Sharpton is not a racist. Dopey thing to get upset over. Sharpton wants him fired over one comment. Forget his lifetime of work, the work he currently does on his ranch for kids with leukemia, the fact that he is not a racist, even according to Reverend Al. He should be fired. What should happen to someone who incites a riot and a few innocent jews are killed? Nothing.

 | rok100 (6) 04/09/2007 | Imus is TOAST. I think that the recent "controversy" is just a cheap and convenient way to cut the old buzzard loose and remove his feeding tube. I mean, he says WAY WORSE stuff on an hourly basis. Plus, they've just released new evidence that demonstrates the Whittaker Chambers was most likely LYING about Hiss - so, Don Imus, being the predictable old Nazi red-baiter that he was, will probably want to hang himself or shoot himself in the head with Che's pistolas.
RIP, Imus in the ...whatever.

 | GenghisTheHun (173) 02/15/2007 | I'm afraid that Imus is in decline. It all started when he went to the ranch to do the show three months out of the year. It continues now that he is bowing to the interests of television with him and Charles in the tv studio in New Jersey and the rest of the gang in Queens.
I hate to say it but the loss of Sid also hurts, but I do like the present sports guy in his own right.

The saving grace of the program is Charles McCord and Bernie. The fake characters he's added(i.e. Jack Nicholson, Brian Wilson) have lowered the show even further. It makes me think that he's tired and wants to fill time with anything but himself. The program has only been serving one good purpose for a long while now, to raise money for the Imus Ranch. This show needs to be put to bed.

The jury is still out when deciding on the move to MSNBC studios. Although it is great eye candy it takes away from the closeness they share when they are all in the same studio. It is like the months that IMUS spends in New Mexico.
He may make an attempt at commital but he is very good at riding the fence and making others take a good look at themselves in doing so.
Look at what he accomplished in the Death Benefits issue. We all know that it is coming to fruition due to his rantings but then he gets John Kerry to show his true ability at becoming a phony by getting Kerry to lie in stating that he thought the death benefits were a success and coming about because he brought it all up in his campaign. What a loser! Mr Kerry do us all a favor and stay home in '08!
So go IMAN and keep it up. Intellectuals of the world love you and your crew. Well if the intellectuals don't I do thats for sure!
