Dramatic and heartbreaking, but totally repaid the next season when the Red Sox humiliated the yankees and eliminated them from the ALCS in historic fashion.

Every time I watch this one of my favorite parts watching the Yankees celebrating and the fans freaking out, Its like ssomething out of one of those "inspirational" sports movies. And then I see Pedro Martinez, in the Boston dougout, with a gray hoodie with the hood up, and if you look closely you can see his eyes welling up with tears. This was a pain and a disgrace to the Boston Red Sox, and it ranks up with some of Boston's greatest failures and terrible memories, like Bill Buckner's under-the-legs groundball miss, and Bucky Dent's game winning homer in 1978. Technically Boone isn't a Yankee anymore, but in the heart of the Bronx Bombers true fans, he will always be a Yankee.

As a long time Boston fan, I can't say I was surprised. This kind of thing happens to Boston, and it is part of the painful, make that agonizing charm of the team.

greatest moment in sports history in my opinion.seen it 100 times and i still get chills everytime i watch it.

The Red Sox are my #2 team. That was a very painful moment. It was a great moment in a great rivalry that, oh by hte way, won a pennant. You can't take that away from Boonie. He's the last Yankees 3rd baseman to make it to a World Series. You needed 2003 to make 2004 that much more magical.

aaron boone if forever a god in my eyes. he is my hero and everyone should look up to him for the rest of eternity.

That was one of the best moments I've ever experienced!

Fat chance this is a most memorable moment!!!!!!!!!! Most memorable moment...the pile of Red Sox on the pitcher's mound in St. Louis...Curt Shilling's red bandage...Keith Foulke's toss to Doug Mientkiewicz...a parade in which three million citizens lined the streets on a cold and rainy day to say thank you to their team.

Alright guys I would have to say this is way up there in great moments and I know some Red Sox who will admit it.The fact was it was a great comeback and if you got to see it there was so much energy and excitement when it happened you can't even begin to explain. The fact that Aaron was absolutely nobody up to that point just adds to it.Face it Red Sox,it was incredible.Quit letting your jealousy of an obviously better organization get in the way.Clearly a 5.

OVERRATED. The poor-man's Joe Carter in the 1993 World Series home run. The Yankees didn't even win the freaking World Series that year (losing to the Florida softball team) so why overblow a meaningless victory? This is similar to Derek Fisher's shot with 0.4 seconds left.

One word...BEAUTIFUL.

I hate the Red Sox. That was sweet to see.
Jar-Jar Binks 02/02/2005
Just what Boston fans deserved - they're sorry history, sorry organization and their sorry players. I wrote a good column on why Red Sox Nation deserved it. ... That Boone homer made that memorable 2003 ALCS that much sweeter.
Alexg681 02/02/2005
Ahhhhhhhh I hate the Yankees. The reviewer below me is still bitter that the Red Sox embarrassed the Yankees in the playoffs. He should change his name because Babe Ruth 1918 doesn't mean anything anymore, Red Sox won.

The Best moment in sports history: to show that the Boston Red Sox are losers, (it looks good on them)

Ok, listen up Yankee fans. I know you guys are loyal, and you know how to cheer a pitcher when he comes off the mound, but you are extremely biased. I'm in Cal, and I can see that. Yes, you have your gream team players- Bernie, Tino, Paul, etc., but they're not here now (Except for Bernie). Other than that, everybody was BOUGHT from somebody else. How can your organization SNUB Pettitte when he was a Yankee through and through? You call the BoSox classless, look at your ownership. Props to Boone hitting that knuckler, that pitch is hard enough to catch alone, than to crank one. The Red Sox win with people already in country, they don't import them like the Yanks. Plus, how many well known ex-Boston players are drug addicts? Torre is a great manager, but wasn't a yankee until then. He was an MVP for the Cardinals back in the day. Boston is a true team, because it's mostly the same roster every year. With the yankess, a lot of people are gone if they don't win the WS. That's called buying championships. Where's the class in that?
bosoxfan 10/14/2004
It was a great night when Boone rocked that HR off that knuckle ball chuckler. I will never forget the look on ALCUSKY's face who is a life long Bosox fan. It was like somebody ran over his dog. Classic!!!

On the chilly fall evening of October 16th, I was sitting in my season ticket main box seats in Yankee Stadium as i watched Aaron Boone crush a Tim Wakefiled knuckle ball into the left field seats. The entire game I had my head in my hands, especially when the Red sox were up 5-2 with 5 outs left. When the Yankees rallied to tie in that memorable Eigth inning against the Red Sox nation most beloved pitcher, to hear 56,000 die hard Yankee fans (including myself) chant Asshole again and again at Pedro Martinez, i knew the Yankees couldnt lose. But in the bottom of 11th innning, Aaron Boone came to bat and i shook my head and said to my mom o great not him hes had a horrible series (as i had also attended the 1st and 6th game of the classic series at Yankee Stadium) but on that 1st pitch he caught the Stadium crowd sleeping for it was the beginning of the inning. As wakefield threw the pitch, many wouldnt realize that the ball he just threw would crush the REd Sox and its loyal nation of followers and the team. As I watched that ball fly fly down the left field line, i knew it had the distance but would it stay fair. As it gravity took its effect on the ball, i realized that the greatest rivarly in sports had just gone one step further, and that i had just witnessed one of the most classic games in professional sports history.

I also would do anything to save oh so preciose (cant spell) moment forever, i just remember taunting people all day at school, F**k the sweep they gave us were the bomb. By the way how much would one pay for the boone ball.
AARON BOONE [NICK] 04/30/2004
AARON BOONE IS MY HERO , I AM A DIE HARD YANKEE FAN AND WOULD TAKE A BULLET FOR BOONE , IF IT WAS NOT FOR THAT 41 DEGREE OCTOBER NIGHT IF AARON NEVER HIT THAT TIM WAKEFIELD NUKKLE BALL AND LOST THAT GAME I WOULD HAVE LITERALLY HAD A HEART ATTACK AND DIED OR I WOULD HAVE JUST CRIED UNTIL NEXT OCTOBER , AARON BOONE SHOULD COME BAKK THIS YEAR 2004 AS A YANKEE AND NO ONE ELSE , HE MIGHT NOT HAVE BEEN THE BEST BUT BY GOLLY HE HIT THAT DAMN LONG BALL THAT BEAT BOSTON THATS ALL THAT MATTERS
Jonathan Dubnoff 03/30/2004
This homerun represents more than just the continuation of the Curse of the Great Bambino, it represents the fiercest rivalry in all of sports. The Yankees fans and players have traditionally shown class. As a long time Yankee fan, nothing pisses me off more than the classlessness of Boston. Manny Ramirez doesn't hustle, and he hot dogs every homerun ball that he hits (Example: Game 5, ALDS, 6th inning). When he hit that double play off of Clemens in Game 3, he wasn't even near the bag when the play was over. He always is looking for trouble, and he's a bad influence in the clubhouse. Despite all of that, he's not the player with the least class. Pedro is. When I see Pedro threatening to throw at Posada's head, man-handling Don Zimmer, and letting his ego get in the way of what could have been the biggest win in Baseball History, it's so satisfying to see Boston lose the way they do. Also, the Red Sox fans are just as bad. They are unloyal to their players, and they are paranoid when it comes to the game. The Red Sox are the hateable losers of baseball. This homerun shows that good always prevails over bad.

this one sucked, but at least the yankees lost in the world series.
Tunefreak 11/05/2003
Ah! ANOTHER DAGGER driven into the heart of the Redsox Nation... LOVE IT!!! Can't wait till The Yanks beat 'em AGAIN!!!
magellan 10/22/2003
Obviously it was memorable because of the implications, but at the time, I remember thinking that it was anti-climactic. It happened so quickly, and so suddenly... and then it was over. In my opinion, the real drama in this game, the real memorable event, was Little's failure to take out an exhausted Pedro in the 8th.
friedman29 10/22/2003
A soon-to-be classic.
