They are not the most stylish in the world, and there are those that I like better. But they have good shoes for good prices. I have a pair of white/pink Champion tennies that I got at Payless in Brooklyn and I liked them so much I brought them to Berlin. They've lasted IN THE CITY from April 2006 until now (Feb. 2008) with no sign of falling apart any time soon. ... Not a bad store. You'll find some good stuff there.

Maybe not the best ever shoes, but the prices are affordable, and since I wear out my shoes pretty fast anyway, I need good deals on shoes.

I've shopped at Payless Shoes for years and have always been pleased with everything I've bought there. I'm a stickler for quality and I can tell you, Payless Shoes are every bit as good, if not better, than some very expensive shoes that I've bought. I am the kind of shopper that doesn't rely on "brand" names only. I judge for myself what is good quality, regardless of the price, and you can buy good quality for a low price. I have worn my dress shoes to formal balls, and have had many compliments. I can tell you, these shoes have held up well during the two-step, polka, waltz, cha-cha and many other dances. They are, and continue to be, sturdy. I am thrilled to have just bought the kitten heel pumps with the velvet bow and floral lace over satin. I also bought the matching purse. I wanted to wear these with a lavender dress, so I went to Jo Ann's and bought a couple of lavender "FabricMate" marker-type pens with pigment fabric dye in them. It was so easy to color over both the shoes and the purse with these, and now I have a matching dress, shoes and purse. The shoes fit my feet like a dream. I wear a size 8M in these. One problem I always have that even expensive shoes don't seem to address is a high arch, but these shoes fit beautifully. The only thing I wish Payless had is more of a selection. But then, we do have a smaller store where I live.

If you want cheap shoddy shoes with little or no service this is the place for you. You had better have average sized feet because the size selection is miniscule. The ladies might like it but face it ladies you buy disposable shoes.

I'm poor! I like the price of payless shoe, sure the service is bad, and the styles and selection are'nt that great. BOTTOM LINE: you get what you pay for!

You have accept Payless for what it is. It's fine if you go in not expecting high quality, long wearing shoes. Personally I find their shoes to be very uncomfortable, and the variety is miniscule. But I have gotten some flip-flops there that were okay. And like other reviewers have mentioned, it's a good place to shop for kids since they outgrow shoes so quickly at that stage.

I'm not ashamed to shop here. If you only need shoes to wear for a short period of time, consider payless. But some of the shoes hurt and some make your feet sweat, so be warned. They do have some cute shoes though. This is also a good place to buy shoes for babies and toddlers, since their feet grow so much. The workers help, but they aren't cheerful and they don't really care. All in all, a good place to shop if you're only planning to wear them a little while.

I ain't ashamed to say it- I shop here. They have cute flip flops in the summertime, and some decent dress sandals. Payless is good for what it is- a cheap shoe store. There are some people who don't have the money to buy the 100 dollar, all time best that are probably just a fad anyway shoes. I mean for all you know, you may step outside the first day with your brand new high dollar shoes and step into a pile of poo.

i have shopped there and i have worked there. for kids that grow so fast the value is worth it cuz i cant see paying $50-100 on shoes they outgrow in a week. i will purchase my shoes their on occasion but i have a preference for nike or sketchers

I think Payless is getting a lot better. The leather section is growing, the sales people are more helpful, and there styles are staying more current. I read is consumer reports that one of there shoes it rated pretty high. Some of there shoes are no good, you just to know what to buy.

Payless gets a bad rap. Right now the shoes are imitations of high fashion designs, and let's face it, it's a bargain for someone on a budget. There are MANY shoes here made out of leather, believe it or not, and many that last A LONG time. I own a pair of pointy, black Payless pumps seven years ago(way before the pointy look was in) and they are still in top notch condition. Say what you will about Payless, when you're on a budget, and you want the look they are the best bargain in town. And I'll tell you something else, I walked into a Nine West and shucks if I could tell the difference.

Nice shoes for kids. I dont like the idea of using a pair of shoes that I will find everywhere I go. I prefer Novus or even Bakers sometimes.

About as good selection as Famous Footwear and slightly better prices. My shoe shop of choice.

Being a teenager you wont see me in payless ever. I buy most of my shoes at high quality shoe stores. i like the name brand shoe brands. The prices are decent and some of the shoes are ok. I went in there once looking for slippers. the selection isnt to great. Its just not my kind of store.

The only shoes I buy here are dress shoes! Most of their styles are just flat out ugly! And the selection is very limited! The fit is even worse! My heel alway slides around in the back of the shoe, even when it's the right size!

The shoes don't breathe, no service, don't fit, and have the crappiest designs on earth! Buy a pair of sketchers! REAL shoes!

Sure you can get some good deals, but the shoes are mostly of low quality. The sales clerks aren't very helpful. If you want a decent pair of shoes you won't find them here.

What I can't figure out is how can people wear their man-made shoes day after day. They don't breathe. Do they like sweaty feet? Why don't they make a nice selection of leather shoes? They used to have a mediocre small selection of leather coated shoes a few yrs ago, they don't even try! They sell cheap looking trendy shoes at a cheap price.

We have banned Payless shoes in our house. The materials that most of them are made of don't breathe. So...if you want sweaty feet, buy their shoes. If not, go elsewhere. (This is aside from the fact that Starr Jones made some horrible comments about the character of Atheists recently. If I DID shop at Payless prior to her comments, I wouldn't now.)
