We were hoping for a cat litter that could quell the smell of urine and Feline Pine is definitely it! When our other cat was alive (rest his soul) the poor thing was subject to all kinds of sand and clumping litter brands. We tried rolling boxes, electronic boxes, boxes with filters, boxes with hoods, and el-cheapo boxes all with the same results. The type of litter didn't matter, because all of them eventually smelled like uric acid and created dust storms that would make the Sahara Desert cower. Feline Pine has a litter box, however, the thought of having two boxes (one in the other) didn't appeal to us. So, after extensive online research, we decided to purchase the Breeze Litter Box. We threw away the silica pellets and used Feline Pine pellets instead. We kept the pad in the tray and this has been the best litter box we ever had. So far, our kitten uses the litter box like a champ and covers both his #1 & #2. The urine turns into sawdust and falls through the vents onto the pad... Read more

It does screen urine smell nicely as noted in other reviews. And it does impart an overall piney scent to the room. But I can't figure out why it doesn't screen feces odor. Often my cats won't cover up their feces since I started using Feline Pine on a trial basis. Biggest drawback no one else has mentioned: It does not work well in Litter Maid electronic litter boxes. Something about the pine sawdust structure causes the thousands of little pieces to cling together. They do not flow liquidly through the rake like Clay or ground up corn cob products do. So I end up dumping it back into the pan and hand scooping -- which is a slow process because the sawdust doesn't flow any easier through the rake of a scoop than it does through a Litter Maid. Biggest baloney item: This IS NOT DUST FREE!!! I have two litter boxes in a sun room. I sit and scoop this stuff and shake it around to get it to go through the rakes of the scoop and if you look into the sunlight you will see billions of parti... Read more

I am a veterinary technician and a longtime cat owner. I thought it was a nice idea to try a more environmentally friendly cat litter. I was very wrong. While it takes care of urine odor, my one bedroom apartment constantly smelled like feces while I was using it. My cats tracked it all over my apartment-If I did not vacuum at least once a day, my floor looked like a workshop. Not to mention, it is basically sawdust in a $12 box marked 'environmentally safe cat litter'. Had I known all it is is sawdust, I would have just asked my dad for a box of sawdust.

I personally LOVE Feline Pine! It neutralizes cat urine completely and it tracks very little compared to the clumping and clay products. Yes, it's not the most efficient product when it comes to solid wastes, but because I live in a small apartment, I'm quick to scoop and flush such "items." The problem, however, is that my problem-child Sphynx doesn't consistently use it! It seems like he'll use it when I first clean the litter box, but after a few days of use, he'll start pooping outside the box (and not because the litterbox is dirty -- I've been scooping). Peeing in the litterbox has never been a problem until the other day when he used a moving box full of paperwork as his litterbox. NOT COOL! So, I've been forced to switched to another product that I'm less than thrilled about. It's an unfortunate situation. I LOVE the pellets because they track less, but I think he dislikes them because he can't dig as well in them. And I much prefer the minimal dust and the pine-fresh sent of F... Read more

My cat did not like the Feline Pine. The pellets are what I think he didn't like. He couldn't cover his poo up very well with this, and we have gone back to regular litter

I gave this two stars because I have heard other people had success with it. Even though it smells like pine, I do not think it does anything to absorb pet odors. I am glad it is all-natural and non-toxic, but I just do not think it is worth it especially living in a small apartment.

I wanted to like this. I really did, but I was constantly sweeping sawdust off of my floors and the litter did nothing to cover up the smell of feces. It also seemed hard on the cats' feet. Moving on.....

Have experimented with various types of litter - clumping clay, crystals, newspaper, corn and this is by far the absolute best. NO odor, easiest to use by far - just pick out solids, drop into toilet and change entire box when all the pine has turned damp. Once a week for a household of four cats. As far as the feel on kitties paws - easy soln is to mist the litter lightly with water from a spray bottle. Note:- this is for the original brand NOT the clumping style. Highly recommend - takes the yuck part out of cleaning litter pans.

We have been using Feline Pine for years now. I have recently adopted a younger cat and because I found myself changing the litter more frequently, I decided to try Fresh Step Crystals. That didn't work out well as my older cat refused to use the litter pan and when I noticed that she was getting into the litter pan and getting our with out actually using it, I had to give in and setup a second litter pan with the feline pine. My cats are forcing me to pay for their preferred litter.

I love this litter!  My cat had absolutely no issues getting used to it, it's easy to use, fresh smelling, reasonable price and easier on the environment as well.  Using the scoop sold by the same company would be helpful but not required.  (I never bought one. Kept meaning to but never got around to it)  :)   I would recommend this to anyone!

Love the litter. You can, however, buy the SAME litter at tractor supply company called "equine fresh" (for horses).... it's exactly the same and costs about $7 for a 40lb bag!

We have 10 cats split between two different houses. We had handicapped cats, kittens, old cats, male cats, female cats (well, all were "fixed", but you get the picture)...our lives were a MESS (as were our houses) prior to Feline Pine!!! Our cats LOVE it, and we love it. Can't live without it anymore, and it is SO nice not to have to worry so much about disposal! This is the best litter ever - period! Never had the problems that others have mentioned. VERY little tracking. No odor (as long as they cover - which ours always do). Lasts SO much longer than clay or clump litter....I could go on and on!

My cats didn't like this litter and neither did I. They didn't like how the pellets felt under their paws. When my male cat stepped in the litter box he wined then immeadietly stepped out and didn't use it at all. My female cat did use Feline Pine but didn't cover up. Instead she quickly jumped out of the box and started pawing/scratching the floor, which was a sign that she hated the litter. I didn't like the pine smell to it either, and my cats/cats in general  prefer unscented litters. After my cat urinated in the litter, the box started to smell really bad and I could smell it throughout the whole room. Two of the pros of this litter is that it's environmentally friendly and has no dust at all. But I just wish that it didn't come in pellet form. My cats will be sticking to World's Best Cat Litter.

I think this product is great. As a pet sitter I clean a lot of litter boxes, and this is by far the best product I've ever delt with. I liked it so much I switched my cats over to it. In cities with limited garbage collection it is even better because you can compost the dirty litter! It is slighty more expensive but for the health consideration and my garbage actually being picked up - it is worth the extra dollar!

I like the smell and the fact their is no harmful dust, but my two adult cats are taking their time getting used to it. They have used it for urinating, but, to put it delicately, "number two" is carefully done on the floor in front of the litter box. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have 2 cats one eight and the other two. The younger cat went in for surgery and thew vet said no clay litter after surgery as the cat may get infected. I switched both litter boxes at the same time to 100% Feline Pine. No problems. Both cats love it and me too!. No, I still use the toilet but with the pine litter there is no tracking and no order.

The best thing to do with this litter is to get the special sifting litter pan that the company sells through their website. the clean pellets stay in the top pan and the "saw dust" sifts to the lower pan. All you need to do is scoop the solids out every day & mix the pellets around so the used dust goes to the bottom. Then empty the dust out every week or so depending on how fast it fills up. There is no wasting of unuse pellets and no tracking of the dust. I think I paid about $20 for the pan and special slotted scoop, saves a lot of headache. Other than that I think this letter is great there is no odor and it is a lot cheaper.

I liked the idea of this natural product, but I could not stand the smell of the litter itself! - True, I could not smell typical litter odors, but that was because the litter overpowered it! It reminded me of an artifical pine smell... like the sprays you can get for artificial Christmas trees, only stronger. We did not even finish using one bag before we returned to our old stand-by clumping litter. (By the way, despite the bad press, I've been using clumping litter for close to 20 years, and my cats have never had problems caused by the litter...and they seem to prefer it.)

I have 3 cats, and the two kittens use it, but the mother refuses to use it and poops on the floor next to the box. There is NO smell at all, but when the pellets turn to wood dust, the cats tend to track it around the bathroom, so I will get the "self cleaning" litter box, to see if it helps, cause the no smell thing is great. I put newspaper on the floor next to the box so if the mother cat insists on pooping next to the box, it will be easy for me to clean up. This product is great, I can flush their waste and clean up every day! mystt of rivndell

A waste of money. Though there is no ammonia odor, there is a terrible odor when they deficate that feline pine does not neutralize. I never had this problem with the typical scoopable litter. I scoop the box several times a day, so this shouldnt be a problem

This is by far one of the worst litters I have ever tried! Way back when I first found out how bad clay litter could be for your cat, especially the clumping kind, I switched to this Feline Pine and my cat hated it, but she was a very moody domestic shorthair. When we started our cattery and discovered that kittens like to eat cat litter firt and ask questions later we tried wood pellets. Wood pellets did work better than the Feline Pine, but we still had issues with some cats deciding that other places outside the litter box were better. Then we found Swheat Scoop and we are very pleased with it and so are our cats!

I just adopted a 10 week old kitten. He uses feline pine litter without any hesitation. There is no odor. You can flush it. A little sawdust around the litter box but nothing like the clay granule litter. That was a mess! The main thing is NO odor!

I was faced with a choice of scoopable versus pellets. Because the scoopable was more expensive, I chose pellets. Mistake! The pellets in whole form don't sift out of the scoop so I end up with fecal matter AND pellets. What's left in the litter box is sawdust and that's fine with me and it absorbs all odor. What are people supposed to do when it comes to scooping? I don't want to throw away whole, unused pellets. Help!

This is a kittly litter miracle! I can't say enough good things about it. I used it for a cat in advanced stage renal failure and the smell of his urine could literally gag you. I was able to change the box without smelling a thing when after I switched to Feline Pine. But the real bonus is the minimal tracking. Its a pleasure to not have wayward pieces of cat litter all over the bathroom floor!

im a first time cat owner, and i hope this isnt the best of the bunch for liters! i have a 2 month old kitten, and he makes such a mess out of the liter! it turns to a saw dust like texture, and gets EVERYWHERE! in 3 days his whole box looks like the floor of a woodshop! everytime he goes to the bathroom, he gets covered in the dust, and then gets it all over the floor. i started with this bc its organic, but its VERY MESSY! on the plus side, i live in a small 2 bedroom house, and there is NO odor, no one ever knows i have a cat.

I have two kittens (one is 6 months the other is 3 months). I had feline pine in each of their boxes for only two days. Both cats HATE this stuff! My 6 month old reluctantly pooped once in it and managed to kick poop out of his boda house when he was trying cover it. We followed the directions and used 1/2 old litter 1/2 pine to try to convert them. We put the regular litter in and he ran in and pooped 3 times. The pellets don’t stick to the poop plus, the urine disintegrates the pellets and you have saw dust at the bottom. The three month old use it once over the two days and then pooped in his regular litter as soon as we changed it. I felt so bad for them. They are both such good kitties, they held themselves for almost two days because they didn't want to use it! I really want to find an environmentally friendly good litter.

I love the litter, I have two cats and I change the complete litter box once a week and clean it daily. I also like the woodsey smell. The litter does get tracked somewhat when the cats come out of the box, but easily cleaned up. I wish I could find bigger bags in the stores, thats the only complaint I have.

I have permanently switched from clay litter to the pine. Neither of my cats had any trouble adjusting, and it definitely lasts a lot longer than the clay stuff. Urine is completely absorbed, and the pellets just break down into sawdust. The smell is just that of wet wood -- nothing too offensive. Feces are easily scooped, as well, so long as they're covered up well. One of my cats does a good job with this; one not-so-good. But being able to scoop & flush them makes the whole job a lot easier. I highly, highly recommend it.

I tried it and disliked it. The pellets could not cover poops completely, thus poops exposed in the open air and stinked the whole apartment. It does not clump, and I could not scoop the waste efficiently to eliminate the ordor. It was waste of my effort and money.

I don't know if any litter deserves a 5 star rating. This is the best one I could find that I feel is healthiest for my cat and my family. Clay litters and other kinds have a dust that I don't want us to breathe. I didn't want the clumping litter because I was afraid that Mogey would ingest tiny amounts of it when it stuck to his paws and he would lick it off. He still tracks a little of the sawdust out of the litter box, I just keep a tiny broom and dustpan nearby. It's not completely odor free but the smell is not that bad, very tolerable. I scoop the poo immediately and simply flush it. The company offers it's own scoop and it might work better than the one I have. I don't wait until all the pellets are gone to change out the box. I sift out all the sawdust(with a cheap colander purchased exclusively for use with the cat box, wrote CAT BOX on it in permanent marker)and pour in new litter into the remaining old pellets. It doesn't stick to the litter pan at all, an occasional hosing ... Read more

I LOVE this cat litter! Mine is a 3-cat household. In fact, I stopped using my LitterMaid in favor of it. No more lugging 20# of used litter to the trash can. Biodegradeable, lightweight and it really doesn't smell!! I use the kind of box that has 3 parts (one is to 'strain' the litter). I put that inside a wood box (approx 30d x 18w x 22h) with an opening just about half the height of a cat door. When it's time to change litter, I take the top off. My girl cat who loves to keep keep scraping long, long after she's done now comes outside the litter 'area' to continue her 'ritual' on the floor -- no more litter all over the floor!

I really like how the this litter can have a second life, as mulch and it also keeps the litter box dry and doesn't stick to the bottom of the box like clumping litter can. But there are some drawbacks. Be forewarned. The bag should say: less tracking, rather than no tracking. It does come out of the box when the cat leaves. Eliminatates odors, well not exactly, but common sense will dictate that urine and fecal matter is just going to have an odor, so clean the litter box daily. Really the only reason I am still looking for something different is because I have two cats who will scratch and scratch after having a bowel movement. The pellets are hard and the noise factor is impressive. I need to find something that is softer and quieter. I like the litter and recommend it highly, but would challenge the claims made on the bag. It does track some, to help with the odor situation, the sawdust should be removed daily(not every two weeks), to help with the odor, or it will not ... Read more
