 | kolby1973 (32) 12/02/2003 | OxyContin deserves 5 stars because of the wonder drug it truly is. However, the potential for abuse is too high to rate it over a 4. I do think this drug is wonderful for people with chronic pain. It has helped millions of people who couldn't get pain relief in the past. Unfortunately bad press and media has made this drug look alot worse than what it is. It is not the fault of the drug company (Purdue Pharma), the pharmacists, the doctors or the seriously ill patients, or even patients with chronic pain if someone overdoses because they do not follow instructions. Drug addicts, abusers and pushers(criminals) have made this drug seem so horrible and wicked when in all reality it is a wonder drug. I hope the FDA really looks at how many people it has helped before banning it if they do ban it. Also, Purdue Pharma is in the works of making a new OxyContin pill that has anti-tampering stuff in it so if a drug addict, abuser chews it, it will make the drug ineffective. It should be out in the next couple of years hopefully. But overall, I would highly recommend this if you are in serious pain that nothing else could relieve, and of course only your doctor can prescribe it, and the doctor must also think it is good for you. Just be careful, like you would with any narcotic prescription drug, they can be addictive and it can cause breathing problems.
