 | mega b (3) 03/23/2008 | Nice to see someone who agrees! Perhaps you could post it on Eagle Pet site too!
LOOKS LIKE YOU DID A REPEAT AND CHANGED THE DATE????
BUYER BEWARE-READ THE INGREDIENTS-EAGLE PAC COULD NOT STAND ON THEIR OWN NAME, THEY HAD TO ADD THE HOLISTIC TO DRESS IT UP!
After reading the most recent comment, I called the company 1-800-954-1117, they have assured me the Holistic Blend is made in Canada, not at Menu foods and is not involved in the recall. The salmon comes from BC and there is a statement on the home page as to where their ingredients come from. www.holisticblend.com
They have distribution in Asia, but not a manufacture. I know I should be working for this company! I just know how well my guys have done on the product and I too am afraid to find out anything bad.

 | sunsetts (1) 03/22/2008 | Hi. I used Eagle Pack Holistic chicken and rice formula for a year with my 4 lb. Chihuahua, and I was Not pleased or Impressed with there product at all! It actually has inconsistant meat content (low meat content) and also has beet pulp in it which they feel may lead to yeast infections in animals. (?) It never put any weight on my dog, didn't do anything for her coat or eyes, energy level. Did Not do much for my Siamese either. (holistic cat food). I would Not recommend this dog/or cat food. There has to be better. It may do well for your animal, I am just stating it did Not for mine. God Bless.

 | ShelbyandGunnarsOwner (0) 02/09/2008 | Does everyone realize that you can't just "switch" your pets food from one feeding to the next? Your pets have a very sensitive digestive system, unlike their human companions. They do not tolorate change well at all. For everyone who has switched foods and then left a bad review, I challenge you to try this method and then repost after a few days/weeks: start out by mixing a small amount of the new food with your current brand of food. Gradually increase the amount of new and reduce the amount of your current brand until you have gone from 100% current to 100% new. If your pet still has problems, then yeah, maybe it is the food but if not, it was the method in which you introduced that food to your pet. I realize some pets just dont do well on certain food but for the majority of pets it is perfectly OK to switch their food as long as it isn't a sudden swap. It HAS to be a gradual change. I hope those who are considering changing to a holisic brand, or any other brand for that matter, consider what I just said. Their pet will thank them for it! I promise!!!
By the way, my rating isn't relevent to the brand in question...I left a neutral rating to avoid sounding biased.

 | parentsofsam (0) 10/20/2007 | I've had my chi on this food for the last 2 yrs. of his 3. He loves it! He had a real bad shedding problem and we found after much testing and omitting of certain ingredients that this was the best for him. Canidae was a runner-up but it does contain white rice which is one of his allergy foods. Since he has been on holistic blend, no more shedding or footlicking. We just had a check-up @ the vet and I was very happy and proud to hear that he is in the best physical shape for a chihuhua that she has seen outside of a show ring. His muscle tone is exceptional and his body fat is minimal. Iguess you would say he is very "buffed and cut". I truly recommend Holistic Blend.

 | greynanny (0) 09/18/2007 | My greyhounds have been on this food for a few years and have been doing well until recently. They've started getting dandruff and my male is dropping weight and just looks poorly. They're also both getting bouts of diarrhea. I think possibly the company has reduced the quality of the food. Perhaps they were bought out or are having finacial problems, who knows? I know their packaging changed a while back and that's when my dogs started having these health issues. I'm taking them off this food and trying a higher protein, top quality kibble.

 | rawraw (0) 06/21/2007 | Lamb is the first ingredient with the water removed. They do not want to call it meal because it is pure meat. The company is at odds with AAFCO about calling this meal. So it is not grain heavy but infact a compnay looking to change the way things are done and perceived. They were also the first to use Rosemary as a preservative, the rest have followed.

 | spencercheneldaisy (0) 05/08/2007 | Just registered to "Rate It All" and was reading comments re. Holistic Blend. I too have been feeding it for a couple of yrs. to my 4 animals. Was reading "Jakesire's" site and realized he had done a lot or research. I too have been asking many questions with all the Dog Food Scare. I came upon this site out of Japan called Jetro (http.//www3.jetro.go.jp/ttppoas/anken/0001058000/1058877_e.html) who claim to be the supplier of Holistic Blend (they were looking for someone to market in Asia.) I see Pet Food Direct (USA) also carry under alphabetic listing on their site. Always worried me they say, above AAFA standards but do not actually carry the seal itself. But, now-a-days, it seems not to matter 'cus a lot did and they proved not adequate. Anyway, just voicing my concern, because, if Japan, they say Thailand as a supplier, and I remember that Sardines for human consumption were banned and some other fish (Salmon???). Whatever, I only wish someone would do some research with me and we could find the facts (in case) ours ends up on the recall list.

 | Jakesire (11) 03/04/2007 | Good ingredients.
Lamb is the 1st ingredient but once you take out the water content, it would probably be about 4th on the list,
With three grains ahead of the meat, it is therefore a heavy grain content food.
The ingredients are high quality but low in meat protein, therfore only 3 stars.

 | puppyloverkb (18) 02/07/2007 | There is no debate that this food is definitely on the low side on the protien scale. This food could almost be considered a reduced calarie formula, with its lower fat and protien contents. As far as ingredients go, not bad, not great. A lot of grains, but also high quality meat. (No by-products) a lamb meal would be better than their lamb, but as long as its not a by-product, this food is ok in my book. Therefor, my rating..OK. They definitely have the right idea in mind, they just used the cheaper way of doing it. I would actually compare this food more to the Nutro Ultra. Except this one is much more expensive. In other words, there isn't much bang for your buck. If you want to spend your money on a really good food, try Nature's Variety or Innova. Much higher quality and about the same price as this stuff.

 | MID4NITE (0) 07/27/2006 | Normally my dog eats O&M dog food, however, when I went to my pet store, they were out. I purchaced Holistic Blend dog food, purely on the recommendations that I had seen on this website. I am rating this dog food based on my dogs reaction to this food. She absolutely hated it !!! She would not eat it until she was starving..

 | dreamer1 (0) 07/16/2006 | I was introduced to this food from a friend and my dog loved it immediately. As my dog has food allergies I was very critical of the ingredients but after some research my dog was on if for 3 months. I feel that they have a really good quality dog food, but it did not agree with what my dog's skin and coat requirements were. Within the 3 months I noticed amount of dry skin flakes increased greatly and the shine in her coat was decreasing. I have switched her back to the previous food I was using and the skin and coat have improved greatly.

 | PennyH (0) 07/11/2006 | I work in a pet store and have spent a lot of time reading over the ingredients in different dog food. I can say whole heartedly that this Holistic Blend dog food has no fillers and all natural ingredients. Other companies use soy mill ends, peanut hulls, corn and loads of rice. Yummy isn't it? Read labels, then try this product. I feed this dog food to my shar pei and will never change. I recommend it to all my customers and friends as well.

 | jamcony (1) 06/09/2006 | I have used Holistic Blend in the past and have found it to be a very good food, especially when they replaced the synthetic vitamin k supplement with the more natural k1.I am using another food now just because I don't have to mail order it as I did Holistic Blend.
The real concern should be providing the best nutrition possible for your dog and for me, it's not feeding just kibble. I feed mainly a raw frozen diet and mix some kibble in for the crunch and as a backup for any vitamins that the raw frozen lacks. I don't find that mixing kibble with raw frozen meats is a problem and my 1 year old loves it.
I know that this is primarily a kibble board but the interest should be in overall good nutrition, not arguing about what kibble has more meat or may give a shiny coat.

 | jlphilli (1) 06/07/2006 | Gee...it looks like some people on here are just putting good ratings to keep this product number one as listed on their site...and by the way, you cannot eliminate shedding with a food. This food is OK, but it is not that great...it has way more grains/starches than it does animal protein--it only has two meats, one of which contains around 78% water (salmon, not salmon meal)!?! Plus, 22% protein is way too low for normal dogs to thrive on. Also, 42% meat composition means nothing on a dry matter basis which is the crude protein your dog digests...the crude protein is what matters, not the composition (most foods have a higher concentration than 42% anyways).
Not as great as the price suggests.
**mega B---I am not a vet, but I am a DOCTORATE student studying companion animal nutrition at NCSU, with a bachelor's degree in Animal Science...I know a little more than the average person.
Also, recent metabolism studies done at the NCSU vet school have shown that dogs metabolize glucose better (depositing muscle vs fat) when on a 28%+ protein diet for small breed dogs and a 26%+ protein diet for medium-large breed dogs.
**I may not be a complete expert but I know more about it than the average person, which I believe deserves some credibility. Also, we are not funded by any dog food company...our funding comes from the state and the university. The vet students (at the vet school) are taught by the reps from Science Diet (which I do not like) but they have nothing to do with the animal nutrition department.

 | golddigger (0) 06/01/2006 | Not sure what the problem is with some peolple! The food clearly list 2 meat proteins?
42% meat compostion. Just call the company I did. The food may not eliminate shedding, but it certainly reduced it by 90% in my dogs. The company also told me they were introducing a grain free product this summer.

As the owner and breeder of Golden's I would like to say, I feed and recommend Holistic Blend. After nine years of using Holistic Blend Lamb & Rice, I am grateful for no shedding, no hot spots and less clean up in my yard.
My oldest 2 girls act like they are 1 year old puppies. I have and will continue to do my own research. It never stops with just one source or website. I also look at the whole product ingredient list, not just one and when I compare Holistic Blend to any other higher end product I am happy! They are the ONLY pet food company that supplies products you can sit down and eat! Any other food will say "NOT FIT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION" if other foods are such high quality, then why?

Shedding is dramaticly reduced, coat is full and beautiful, stool is perfect. | tootsie28 (1) 01/19/2006 | This is a fantastic food. In just a few days I noticed a considerable difference in all 3 of my dogs. I have tried just about every dog food out there, not the crummy ones with yucky stuff in it and I have to say this is the BEST. I have a dog who has been sick since we got him, he couldn't digest anything, he's just loving this food and holding everything down. In 2 days his stools are normal and all 3 of my dogs are even more playful. Customer service is wonderful and very informative. Their website says it all check it out.
PLEASE make sure you all understand that this HOLISTIC BLEND is the company from Canada, there's another food with the same name or similar name that is NOT the same, READ before you judge. And this food DOES NOT have menodine sodium bisulfate at all.
Try this food it's great! Even shipping is right away if you call them directly. There's another company USA that can send it but it takes almost 2 weeks, call directly and they'll help you out. All natural and Human grade.

Holistic Blend is the best on the market for a healthy alternative to the "normal" dog food on the market. The ingredients are all natural with no fillers or additives.
Along with their supplements I have not found anything that is equal in quality! Our dog loves it and is healthy because of it.

 | SamTheMan (3) 11/07/2005 | I agree with MPIE about the "...the first product line for pets fit for human consumption." It's just not a chewy as a lot of them but it doesn't have that aftertaste either so it's hard to complain.
The key to much of this food it to look for the small "legal" words that say, "100% Nutritionally Complete." It's not a sales pitch... it actually means something. Too many of these new "prescription" diets are so specialized that it is not 100% complete, therefore you starve your pet of balanced minerals and vitamins. I found this out from a neighbor that was so concerned about his dog's allergies he had him on medicated food for years. He kept losing his teeth and having to have them pulled where he only had four teeth left in his head (about 7 years old) before he found out he was starving his pet. Be kind to your pet and check.
That reminds me... don't you just hate it when the lid falls down on the back of your neck when you're getting a drink of water?

 | Pat1jo4 (0) 10/23/2005 | My dog has been on this dog food for about 3 weeks. now and she loves it. But I put her on it because I was always having to take her to the vet for hot spots - he skin would get raw and patches of fur would fall out. I was constantly having to put her on meds. When I started her on it she had a hot spot - it cleared up in 5 days. I will keep my dog on this food! Her eyes also look clearer - less hazey - she has some cateracs - 14 yr. old girl.

 | Jordy (0) 08/04/2005 | My Saint Bernard has had ongoing digestive problems. We have tried all the top super premium foods like. Solid Gold Wolfking and Holistic Blendz, Eagle Pack Holistic Formula etc. His diareah recently was so bad there was blood in his stool. I raced to the vet with a sample believing it could be worms which it was found not to be. They suggested changing his food. I recently tried the Holistic Blend Lamb & Rice. I did not switch over slowly and his stool is perfect now. Incredible. The price is reasonable as well. He has mild hip displacia so the low fat content is a bonus. I suppliment his food with Green Beef Tripe (1/4 can mixed with the Holistic Blend) and Seagreens (half teaspoon per meal) Great product. Will be staying on this for a long time!

 | huntersdrift (1) 07/14/2005 | I now run a kennel for ridgebacks along with owning two other breeds of dogs, yorkshire terrier and a yellow lab.
When I first brought home my ridgeback I fed her the Eukanuba which the breeder was using. However, after doing some research on this food along with many others due to the fact my rigeback was refusing to eat this food any longer, and this is very unusual for a ridgeback not to eat food! I found so many chemicals along with what disturbed me the most was the rendered animal by-products they call meat put into their dog and cat foods. The BHA/BHT and ethoxyquin for preserving the food is poisonous to animals and this could be the problem for a number of dogs with skin problems. Now, my yellow lab from the time he was six months old started to have problems with his digestive system, he was on Solid Gold at the time as this is a good product. However it is a very rich food that some digestive systems of dogs can not handle, mine being one of them. He was put on the Medi-Cal Gastro from the vets for about three years, I took the chance on switching him to HB since I started my ridgeback and yorkie on it, so far he has had no problems with his GI tract. All three dogs are doing great since I switched to HB, their coats are gleaming, no body odours, and healthy as can be! My ridgeback will soon be giving birth to a litter of ten puppies who will be eating HB along with the booster plus and will strongly urge the new puppy owners to keep purchasing HB. I know there are other human grade foods on the market, however I have always stayed with HB as they seem to be a little better as I see this with so many dogs at the shows who are not on HB. My only wish is that I live in an area where it is not so easily accessible.

My cat absolutely loved it! She has been on Holistic Blend for three years now and looks better than ever. She is a long haired cat and has not had any fur problems such as hairballs or clumps since.
I now have a ten month old English mastiff puppy that has been on Holistic blend for two months now. Her fur is silky and smooth and she is full of puppy energy!
I thank Holistic Blend for making such great products without any animal testing, animal-by-products, added junk, and using free range lamb and chicken.
I also love the dog treats! The cinnamon smell so good I am almost tempeted to eat one! Now, if only Holistic Blend made cat treats and bird foods!!!!

 | uglysangel (0) 02/11/2005 | my pet food store told me about this because there's no added sugar and my cat has diabetes. I showed it to my vet and he said to go ahead and try in. she's been on it now for 2 months and she's doing really well and so is my wallet.

 | moejaymom (1) 02/11/2005 | my sister has a dog with Sebaceous adenitis and this is the first food he has ever been able to tolerate in five years of trying... Just put my pukey cat on it and he no longer leaves me little surprises |
