 | AfleetAlex1 (0) 08/22/2005 | With all he has done, he donsn't deserve less. If people would just read his book they would see that all the rumors about him aren't true. Like all of us, he IS a person. He simply does his job in a sport where everything has to be earned. And he has been earning. He would not lie in his book, especially when it was mainly about how low he was when he was doing alcohol. He overcame his demons and turned his life around. Then he finally woke up and started working hard in his sport. And don't be fooled, he always rides to win. Never to beat another horse, but to win. When Mike Smith started riding in New York, it was Jerry Bailey who took him under his arm and, In Smith's words, 'was like a big brother' to him. He taought him everything he needed to know. And it makes sense what he says on the missed triple crowns: it is a horse race. Everybody in the field is not going to purposely keep their horses back so the favorite can win. They must earn their crown. He sent Eddington to the lead because the horse had a tendancy to just daze off, thinking he wasn't in a horse race. They sent him to the lead so that he knew he was in a horse race right from the start. Empire Maker, he said, was a good horse, and deserved better than the boos he got at Belmont. He and Edgar Prado are sorry, he said, but we are just doing our jobs. Do you think horses were held back in the richest horse race in the world? Then how come he won it FOUR times? Jerry Bailey has earned five stars. After all the work in the sport that he puts into, he still works at it today. The one thing, he deserves much more credit than people give him.

 | larrythelegend (0) 05/17/2004 | He lost on Derby Day when he was crusing and snoozing in one of the earlier races. Yesterday he showed that he no longer cares when he gave up on horse after horse. If he isn't going to give 100% he owes it to the horseplayers to step down and let someone who cares get the mounts.

What happened to tradition in this Country?
Regarding logo's on Jockey silks. I support the Kentucky Derby in its decision to ban logo's on the traditional uniform of the jockey's. Our over the top corporate culture need not taint one of the last remaining glorious symbols of thoroughbred racing.
I watch little or no television but I always tune into the Derby and I don't want to see logos running the turf. Let the horses run and the jockey's ride, and leave the logo's out.
