Lester Piggott is one of the few sportsmen for whom those titles are inadequate. He had a unique and unsurpassed ability to get the very best from horses, seemingly able to transfer his iron will and determination to win to his mounts. He turned average horses into good horses, good horses into great horses and great horses into superstars. Truly the greatest jockey of all time.
