Dinky and ugly, but gets the job done. By car, it's more accessible than San Francisco International Airport, but on foot, it's slightly annoying to get to because you have take a shuttle for which you have to pay exactly $3. I don't know why people are saying the fares are cheaper than those at SFO; according to Expedia, Southwest Airlines, and Orbitz, they're consistently more expensive.

People. What is the point of a massive airport remodeling project if visitors disembark into the baggage claim area only to be assaulted by the unholy caterwauling of "soft jazz" being blared on a boombox by some failed "entrepreneur" hawking shit that would be embarrassed to be seen at the f*cking Ashby BART flea market???
I love Oakland. But this third-world bazaar they have set up at the airport is freaking WACK.

I've flown to and from this airport dozens of times on Southwest when it was really cheap to do so, but not recently. In my time (roughly around 2000) it had awful car congestion. From others' descriptions, it sounds like auto traffic has gotten better, but I can't imagine that it's that much improved--after all, it's on that part of 880 next to the A's/Raiders/Warriors megaplex, which creates the worst traffic nightmares I have ever witnessed. (I expect this will continue until 2012, when the A's go to Fremont.) I missed flights out of Oakland more than once. Not bad inside the terminal ... if you can actually get there.

This used to be a pretty quiet airport but no longer. Better choice than SFO as it is easier to get in and out of and it is a lot smaller.

The Good - cheaper fares than SFO, and much less traffic - very easy to get around. The Bad - you have to take a shuttle to get to BART. The Ugly - The airport and terminals.

Better than SFO in so many ways... better weather... less traffic... Very few delays. BART is about 2 miles away compared to SFO direct line in ( only 3 years old). BART will connect directly to OAK in the near future with a planned monorail. Can get crowded during holidays... but traffic moves smoothly.

Nice to be able to get cheaper flights out of here sometimes, but you'd better hope you're not stuck here because this airport is crowded, old, and lacking in amenities - in short, it hasn't kept up with its growth. Also, despite what many people think, BART doesn't go anywhere near this airport. You have to connect to a bus which adds a 15-minute ride and up to 15 minutes wait as well.

This place is like the city of Oakland...a complete dump! The airport is hard to access and is nasty/disgusting on the outside. Also, baggage claim is a giant zoo! Fly out of SFO or SJC is you have a choice!

Traffic congestion reduced now that roadway entry construction is finished. Terminals are very basic and rental car and parking is inconvenient.

Not much variety of airlines in this airport and just not livng to hype as there is constant construction. We cannot depend on Southwest Airlines to take us to and from Oakland.
