We have a male that is about 9 months old; he is turning into a great dog. He's young so he's still an immature goof-ball. A LOT of activity is required! They will destroy everything if they are not exercised regularly (we also have a 1 yr old fem choc lab). His favorite activity is swimming. Fast learner. Becomes focused/fixed with things easily. Dominance is an issue; He tends to "test the waters" often. Definitely recommend an owner that will be able to put his/her foot down. Fantastic watch dog. Loves people and other dogs. We have 4 cats and he loves every one of them. Smelly/oily coat. These dogs are very different from a Lab.

This is a great dog. It can get the job done on land or water. It also is a nice friendly family animal.

These are fun, loving, extremely intelligent, big dogs. Orriginally bred for hunting they can function in harsher conditions than most other hunting dogs and will never get tired of retreiving (a mixed blessing on the retreiving part) They definately love to swim, and are in fact some of the best water dogs in the world. Their only flaws are their need of lots of activity and a constant fixation on anything that can be thrown. (beleive me, when it comes to playing fetch they are like the energizer bunny; they keep going, and going, and...)
