Not sure how she made the list. Since she didn't really ever actually serve as First Lady.

I'm sure she would've been a wonderful first lady had she been alive, how come they don't put Emily Donelson, and other actuall hostesses here.

Rachel and Andrew Jackson made a horribvle mistake. Her first husband was an abuser and planned to humilate her. She was the generals inspiration. To attack her is to ignore she was wronged. Even the coward who wrotw against her in 1910 (a member of Robards family) had not hte courage to sign their name. She and Andrew jackson were kind generous and for the ordninary American. I think she and Dolly Madison are our most maligned First Ladies after Eleanor Roosevelt. The three were marvelous.

I'll give her a high rating because she didn't even serve as First Lady; she died right before Andrew Jackson's inaugural. President Jackson placed the blame on her death on his political opponents, who brought to light the fact that Jackson had married her while she was still married to another man. Eventually it was resolved and they were legally married. She literally couldn't stand the attacks on her integrity. After Rachel died, it made Jackson less willing to negotiate with his enemies. Hell, I would be less willing if I blamed them for the death of my wife. If you think politics is rough today, you should have lived during the early days of America! At least feel sorry for her.

Why in the world is Rachel Jackson rated so highly on this list? Can anyone name anything influential or even helpful about this first lady? She did absolutely nothing of value for the country. She and Andrew even had to be married twice because their first union was voided, considering the fact she was already a married woman. So she was an adulteress who died very shortly after he took office. What's so great about her again?
