02/20/2006 | Bess Truman never wanted to be First Lady and certainly didn't fit the idea in personality or physical looks. But she was a straight-shooter and made it seem as if any, everyday American woman could one day be First Lady. She never fit the mold and she couldn't have cared less. That's what made her great.
