She was bit retiring, so people don't really give her the credit she deserves, but she was the very first First Lady to have her own office in the East Wing of the White House and demand her own staff. And since leaving office she's promoted causes for women and the underpriviledged, well into her 70s. And has done it gracefully and with tact. To me, she's brilliant.

 | Garbonzo (0) 08/27/2005 | Mrs. Carter could've picked a sexy, headline grabbing issue for her social project. But instead she chose to use her considerable influence and fame as first lady to bring the causes of the mentally ill to the forefront. Thousands of people are today better off because she has done and CONTINUES to do 25 years after leaving the White House.
Shy and soft spoken, she was rumored to have considerable influence in her husband's administration. If so, it was bettter for it. She's very intelligent and puts her heart ahead of political gain.
In stark contrast to some of her contemporaries, she's in rare air of the most influential and best first ladies.

 | Jar-Jar Binks (16) 05/25/2005 | Another good woman who served her country well. Affable, shy, beautiful, and polite, the country would have been better off if she was First Lady for another 4 years rather than that Dragon Lady. Rosalynn's mental health agenda has saved many lives and her compassionate for the poor is genuine.

 | James76255 (17) 02/12/2005 | Ironically, a fine First Lady, though she did tend to stay behind the scenes more than most.

 | rmeadows (0) 08/25/2004 | I believe that Rosalynn Carter is a very warm, gracious, caring person who deeply cares about the welfare of others. She is also attractive and displays class by being herself.

 | Moosekarloff (17) 06/07/2004 | Classy, refined, attractive, but reserved and remote. Perhaps that's a function of where and when she was raised. She did much more in the way of charitable work, pet projects and good will efforts than the vast majority of First Ladies, and kept up a commitment to public service long after her husband left the White House. Too bad Jimmy is such a well-meaning and decent snooze: if he were a bit more maverick and had any presence of the Killer Instinct that's all-important in a Chief Executive, maybe she would have lightened up a little bit.

 | ButtonGwinnett (0) 04/19/2004 | She's simply the most kind and caring First Lady the U.S. has ever had. She's beautiful inside and out.
