Herbert Hoover is a good example of never letting an engineer become president. Jimmy Carter is another. Disaster. Enough has been said about FDR, so I won't repeat, but the country needed him in 1932. That he later became a disaster is another story.

Hoover had completely lost the trust of the American people and had to go. Roosevelt ran a balance-the-budget campaign which he briskly abandoned once in office. The only good thing about this process was that it shows that elections are better than bloodshed when rulers have failed to such an extent that revolution is necessary.
