This is better than it seems. Peewee the manchild sets out to find his beloved bike that was stolen. he meets many "interesting" friends along the way. rather funny scenes. not for everyone if you hate PeeWee.

In the right mood, I find this pretty funny. It's kind of like watching one of those little cars full of circus clowns getting hit by a train.

The first thing I had to do (ooops, actually the 2nd thing I had to do, wink, wink), when I got back from a 6-month deployment from the Persian Gulf in 1985, was to see Pee Wee's Big Adventure. It was worth the wait. What a quirky movie. I have seen it 4 time since and we watched it as a family not too long ago.

I was a kid when it came out and it gave me the creeps. I told my buddy: I smell a child molester.

Fans of Pee Wee Herman tell me this is the best of the Pee Wee films. I was never a big fan of the character but there's no doubt that a great number of adults as well as children find this picture funny and enjoyable. When the film was current I was on a train from New York City to the suburbs and a fellow who was in his early 20s sat next to me and all he could talk about for the entire ride was Pee Wee's Big Adventure which he had seen earlier that day. It was then that I realized the broad appeal of the film to people other than children. Other reviewers on RIA also speak of the film with affection. It is a shame that the real life character was so foolish with his sexual conduct that his career will never fully recover and this film, which has brought laughter to so many, has a dark cloud hanging over it. Mr Reuben has become the butt of jokes (I heard they let Pee Wee Herman vote in the last election. They just wouldn't let him close the curtain all the way) and in some ways those jokes have overshadowed the laughter he has brought to such a large number of people in the character of Pee Wee Herman.

Directed by Tim Burton (in his first feature film), Pee-Wee's Big Adventure (1985) was co-wrote by Paul Reubens (aka Pee-Wee Herman) and the late Phil Hartman (of SNL fame). The end result is a surreal film that reflects the creative talents of all three. For the uninitiated, someone steals Pee-Wee's prized custom bike, and he is off on his big adventure to get it back. Along the way, Pee-Wee, an eccentric character to say the least, meets other odd people, visits the Alamo (sans basement), and encounters the mystical Large Marge (Alice Nunn). The film is full of memorable lines, infamous scenes (eg Pee-Wee dancing to Tequila in a biker bar), and cameos (ie James Brolin and Morgan Fairchild) in the final scenes. The bottom line is that Pee-Wee's Big Adventure is a fun, enjoyable movie that has aged well, is watchable by children and adults, and remains a contemporary and cult film. Remember, you don't have to watch your life, as you lived it.

After hearing that scary, scary Pee-Wee laugh, I wanted to run and hide under my sofa as a little kid.

My brothers and I used to have EVERY line of this movie memorized. We ate, slept and breathed Pee Wee's Big Adventure. It got so bad that we begged our parents to go to the Alamo and ask to see the basement and we swore we saw Large Marge driving her semi on I-75. At least it really looked like her. Even today when we have a problem, we ask each other what our big but(t) is.

Well kick me in the head and call me Billy-Bob or something. I watched this film when I was a pretty young kid over and over again. Of course as a young kid I thought this was a noir type of thing with the occasionally satanic imagery and the tale of alienation underlying the plot. Actually the comedy didn't impress me as much as the generally epic nature of the film. I mean theres such a wide range of strange scenes throughout this movie based around one mans dedication to his bike. From the first techno-madness breakfast scene to the insane studio bike chase this movie has some very creative imagery.

Even though Pee Wee Herman in general is not my favorite actor at all, I really enjoyed this movie. Very entertaining and funny as hell.

Paul Rubens is a genius. His Pee Wee Herman role is so amazingly stupid it is incredible. I would also highly recomend Pee Wee's Big Top.

So many hilarious lines. I still laugh my head off during the LARGE MARGE segment and when the tour guide tells Pee Wee that the Alamo doesn't have a basement. Then of course there's Pee Wee's platform shoe Tequila dance. The second Pee Wee movie was pretty stink-o - but this one is a very re-watchable classic.

When I wrote down that To Kill a Mockingbird is my favorite movie in my RIA profile, I'd forgotten about Pee Wee. This is seriously one of the best movies ever. It took me awhile to give it a chance, but man is it funny. Great lines throughout; great characters; great Tim Burton-directed madness. Dottie is cute. Speck rules. Francis is wonderfully evil. And Pee Wee himself is a charmer.
