Today is September 8. On this date in history, in 1966, the first episode of the series, "Star Trek" aired. The episode was "The Man Trap" about a shape shifting alien that is hungry for salt and kills humans to get the salt out of their bodies. It doesn't seem possible that forty years passed since I watched this series!

A true classic. Even the reruns are still good with the right episode. The characters will live on forever and still do on shows like "Saturday Night Live" and "Mad TV" because it is such a part of the American conscienceness. You will find some of the shows are a great example of "male chausvinism" of the 60's. I do not agree with it but it is entertaining to watch from a male who would not dare try to pull that off now. For any women living with a man raised on "Star Trek", "Wild,Wild West", "The good, The bad and The ugly" and "Fistful of Dollars", we have been program to protect you with our life...so the original Star trek should get a point for that.

The original Star Trek was a fine show. Shatner plays it straight all the way through and he is simply hilarious if you watch him with the right perspective.

The best drama out of the 60s, the one that started the legacy, Star Trek has a great cast, the right amount of camp and humor and great writing.
