It was Ok, and my memories of it are very vague. I was fascinated by the guy with the Texas accent who always wore a wool cap.

I enjoyed it. It would be nice to see someone paste an old TV line up so others could see the choices we had. You can still hear thier songs on the oldies station so that says it all. A different time and place. I really do not think they could have beat out the beatles...or even gave them a run for their money. But there is an obvious change in the beatles music when they started doing LSD-25. So if the Monkees would have jumped on LSD-25 earlier who knows....

History has been kinder to the Monkees than their critics were. These days, so am I. The Monkees were a corporate attempt to recreate and hopefully control and direct the magic that the Beatles had brought to film with A Hard Days Night. But just as none of the Woodstocks has ever equalled the original, magical times cannot be recreated, let alone controlled by people with financial interests as their main objectives. Unlike A Hard Day's Night the Monkees lacked the sharp wit of Lennon, the deadpan face of Harrison when he joked, McCartney's impish naughty / nice personna, and Ringo's optimistic view of life while being young in the midst of fame and fortune. What made the Monkees a television success was the boys themselves, essentially 4 guys looking for a job and hoping to perhaps make a musical contribution in the process. Instead of being allowed to evolve as most bands do, the Monkees were viewed as a money making machine, cranking out poorly produced records almost as fast as Boyce and Hart could write them. Controversy over their musical ability made them the subject of ridicule and by the time they took creative control their records were bombing and the writing was on the wall that the end was near. It has been their TV show which has entertained several generations, more so than their music. In that sense, the magic of the Monkees will never die.

When everyone else was listenting to the Beatles I was listening to the Monkeys. Had it not been for the Beatles being here when the Monkeys were I believe the Monkeys may have been a bigger band than they were. Come on now lets give them some credit. I found their music good listening music, much more so than the latter of the Beatles music, when they were so high on drugs that they wrote such non sensical music as yellow submarine, strawberry fields forever. what a waist of someones breath these songs truely were.

Mickey, Peter, Davy and Mike four zany, off the wall, but loveable musicians who shared an apartment. The show only lasted 3 seasons, but won 2 Emmys for Best Comedy. Yeah you are basically watching a facet of their real personality, but the show is still fun to watch and the music was good.

I always loved this zany show. These guys never got the credit they deserved for creating a top notch comedy show.

It seems to me that you have to be about the age I was when this show was first broadcast...11 or 12 in order to really get into it. Maybe not. But, I don't see how it would appeal much today. Then again, I don't get the continued interest in music videos either and, in a sense, this show was a pre-cursor for them. An extra star for Mickey Dolenz and old times sake.
