What makes the Andy Griffith show unique is that it was a comedy with no jokes. There were few funny one liners. What made the show funny was the personalities. Barney, the most obvious, didn't make wise cracks or put downs. The humor was Barney himself. The same holds true for Gomer, Goober, and all of the other characters. In these cutting edge times it's reassuring to look back at a show that reminds us that humor can be from within ourselves.

When Don Knotts was with the show is was the pinaccle of great slapstick comedy. After Knotts left, it tanked in quality, but the first five years are classic!

Some may view me as sad, but I loved this show. I sometimes chuckle and make reference to it when talking about our local law enforcements. I think Andy was very patient in dealing with Barney. The writers of the show did a very good job for the era that it was produced in.
