5 stars for longevity. The series jumped the shark when the syndicate was wiped out. After that it slowly declined.

The first few season where good, but eventually it went down hill a bit.

One of my favorite television shows, although the series finale was somewhat of a disappointment.

The show started out as a Friday night cult show on Fox about two FBI agents that investigate rather bizarre cases called X-Files. One agent is the believer, Agent Fox Mulder, driven by a tragedy from his childhood, his partner, is a doctor, the skeptic put on The X-Files to debunk his work but trust and a deep friendship develops between the two. What happens to this Friday night sci-fi cult show is that it becomes a big hit and one of televisions current influential programs. Other programs have tried to copy The X-Files formula and The X-Files are mentioned on tv shows that we watch today.

I loved it for a few years, then got sick of all the one-shot episodes. The ongoing story started to suffer as well once they decided to keep the show running past its shelf life. More questions were raised than were answered, and the payoffs just didn't happen.
