We can thank Saint Jimmy Carter the First, for the Iranian mess. The Shah just wasn't democratic enough for "ol' Jimma, and "sho' nuff, we had to git th' Shah outta thar and put in th' dimmycratic mullahs."

Jimmy the Joke broke the First Law of GenghisTheHun: Whenever you force out a bad ruler in the Middle East, you always get something worse.

1977 to 1981 was a great time for me, but I doubt President Carter had a lot to do with it. I don't think he's to blame for all that went wrong then either. In my opinion, he's a pretty nice guy who was only an average president... and I suspect he's being called "the worst president ever" in hopes folks will forget 2001 to 2009.

Very possibly the worst president in American history. Double digit unemployment, double digit inflation, the hostage crisis, the energy crisis, the misery index, the killer rabbit, the botched rescue attempt, and his idiot brother were some of the things we endured during the seemingly endless 4 year presidency of Jimmy Carter. Easily the most sanctimonious man to step foot in the Oval Office. His presidency was a disaster and every time I see his scrunched up face and pursed lips I want to vomit.

Will always be faulted for forces well beyond his control.

He is on the bottom of this list, and that's exactly where he belongs.

No way! Carter was way too much of a diplomat. It is his fault for what happened in Iran in the late 70's when the radicals took over. Thus, our reasons for having to build Iraq up to defend against Iran.

The biggest crisis faced by President Carter was the Iran Hostage Crisis. In November 1979, radical Iranian students seized American diplomats and embassy employees in Teheran. For more than a year negotiations were at a stalemate and an airborne rescueission failed. The hostages were finally released on January 20, 1981, the day of Ronald Reagan's Presidential Inauguration. While the Iranian Hostage Crisis was indeed a difficult situation for any man to deal with. However, it could have easily been avoided, had security been provided for the diplomats in the first place. Carter knew fully well that Iran was an unstable region, and that the safety of Americans was not guarenteed there. His failure to prevent the situation, not to deal with it, is why he deserves this rating.
