The metaphorical in movies requires a whimsical style which director Peter Weir, usually most adept, fails to achieve. 'The Truman Show' calls for too much suspension of disbelief regarding the premise that a man of 30 or so has not yet realized that the powers that be have made his life the focus of a TV reality show, not even a casual encouter with the film crew; that Truman in his lifetime never ventured outside the immediate vicinity of his home; that the ratings had to be humongous every year to finance the production values involved; or for that matter, that audiences never tired of following the humdrum exploits about his everyday life which, as everyone knows, rarely exceed a half-dozen seasons. 'The Truman Show' expects its audiences to bring too much empathy to the party.

I'm sorry Mad Hatter, I found quite the opposite. The movie had a great idea to work with it just didn't go anywhere. I found it lame and boring.

This was a great movie. The writers did a great job putting this one together.
