A good movie starring a rather young Jack Nicholson that failed to measure up to the depth and power of the book.

An extremely powerful, extremely depressing movie. I've generally got a pretty sturdy constitution when it comes to re-watching depressing movies if I enjoy the acting, writing, and directing, but this is one where the phrase Once is enough is applicable. As a sidenote, Nicholson is excellent here as usual, but it is interesting to speculate how it would have turned out if Kirk Douglas, who owned the rights to the story, had been able to play the part of McMurphy as he wanted to.
