My brother owned a ’69 I believe it was the 327. It was a great car, but he had a lot of mechanical problems with it mostly because he was only 17 and did not take care of it, still it was a fast fun car and to sit in it was like sitting in a rocket. Even today I can remember how those seats sat low and back and you felt like you were taking off not just driving. His friend owned one also, a little sportier looking this my brothers’. He got several speeding tickets with it. He too had mechanical problems with it, but mostly due to his own neglect. One time he was under it working on it and I saw a flame shoot out of the motor and calmly informed him his car was on fire. Another time while he was staying at our house, my mom went out to go to work. His car was parked in the driveway. She came back in and asked what happened to his car. He had no idea what she was talking about. I remember to this day what she told him…“I don’t know how to describe it but it looks like it’s bowlegged.” We went outside and the two front wheels were turned in. My brother and his friend stood looking at the car wondering what they did to cause this and how they were able to drive 15 miles home from where this happened, who knows??His car died a though in a accident where thankfully no human life was hurt. Makes me think maybe 17 year old should not have fast cars???

The early model Camaros (1967-69) were among the greatest muscle cars ever. Driving one of these cars to the line was to literally throw down the gauntlet against the car right next to it. Seriously, there was nothing like seeing one of these beauties coming down the road. And as far as the greatest Camaro year, 1969? This was the year the great dealer-custom Camaros (with the COPO package) came out. Chevrolet dealerships across the country such as Nickey, Dana, Berger, and the legendary Yenko of Pennsylvania took advantage by specially ordering the COPO-engined Camaros to create ones uniquely their own (and which are among the most sought after). Surely, every Camaro aficionado's jaw would drop at the sight of a Yenko 427. Even the small block 327s, 307s and 302s are highly sought today, as collectors try to outbid each other for the right (and honor) to own these legendary muscle cars.

Classic lines, amazing power to weight ratio, aggressive look just sitting there. These cars are great. When I think of a muscle car a '69 SS is the first thing to pop in my mind. And if you really wanna go out there and just rip it up with a nostalgic feel and unbelievable power I've got one word for you.........YENKO
