Overall Rating:3.22 based on 9 ratings
President Eisenhower's term during most of the 1950s is remembered by most Americans as a period of peace and propserity. President Eisenhower upheld Civil Rights laws by sending federal troops to Little Rock, AR in 1957 to force integration of the city's public schools. He also initiated the development and expansion of the interstate highway system, proposed massive increased in education funding, and expanded Social Security and Welfare. (Add picture)

Very competent military general, fortunate to serve during relatively peaceful times while Europe and the rest of the world recovered from WWII. As a president, didn't make too many screw-ups. Oversaw the initial stages of the interstate highway system, assuring enough flat, straight sections that commercial aircraft could use it to land on if necessary. Good forethought. Marginal effective income tax rate rose to almost 90% on high wage earners during his tenure.
