Mr.Churchill was the perfect counterpoint to the most evil great orator ever. His clever and very droll comments will live on forever. The results of the inspiration he provided allow us to give our opinions here.

A master of the quip, and as someone honed in the British Parliamentary system a very solid speaker and debater. Had a knack for what today is called the sound-bite, even though that term wasn't invented for decades after his prime.

Winston Churchill is best orator since the Dark Ages and the best english speaking orator of all time.

Winston Churchill does not meet standards. He sets them. We do not judge Winston Churchill according to what we believe to be great oratory. Quite to the converse: we judge great oratory according the standards set by winston Churchill. He is easily the political player in the modern era.

A great leader and a good orator. But I think he's on this list because of his one liners, more than his longer speeches. His speeches were good, but not of the quality of others on this list.

While I could cite numerous speeches he made that would prove his remarkable insight, one of my favorite stories concerns Churchill before he was to get up and speak. While sitting on a platform awaiting his turn the seventy eight year old Churchill was handed a note that read Prime Minister ---- your fly is unbuttoned. Churchill then wrote on the bottom of the note and passed it back. It read Never fear. Dead birds do not drop out of nests.

Well put Flick01. Churchill was one of Great Britain's few hopes during World War II.

A few quotes from Winston: (after a woman said Mr. Churchill, if I was your husband I would poison your tea) Madam, If I was your husband, I would drink it, (After a woman had called him drunk) Yes and you are ugly, but in the morning, I shall be sober. (After Roosevelt had just seen his towel drop after a shower) See, Mr President. I have nothing to hide.. On the other hand his comments on Clement Atlee aren't very entertaining and niether are these two: poison gas should be used to spread healthy terror, I hope that if this empire should ever fall I can only hope there is a man as great as him (Hitler) to lead us.
