One of my favorites of all time. I know it isn't the best film ever made, but I could watch it endlessly. Excellent performances by Robbins and Freeman, the changes made to the script from the original short story only enhanced the film.

excellent movie. I never thought i would love a movie that was set in prison. but this has a great story. terrific actors in Morgan Freeman{always good} and Tim Robbins.  just an all around very well done movie.

One of the all time alltimes of all time;great everything...tough for any Oscar film to beat in any category.

Like most movies made from a Stephen King story, it was emotionally manipulative and improbable, but in this particular case it pretty much worked for me. Great acting from Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins (as usual), and the scene where James Whitmore carves his name in an overhead beam before hanging himself actually had me a little teary-eyed.

A very entertaining movie that I enjoy watching from time to time. I think that Morgan Freeman was superb. I definitely liked the plot. The moral seems to have been to watch out for quiet, bookish guys.
