Citizen Kane (1941) 2

I might get pelted with rocks and garbage for this one, but I think this is far and away the most overrated movie of all time. I guess it had it's moments, but for the most part I found it quite boring.

Citizen Kane (1941) 5

This movie is often cited as the best picture ever made and for good reason. The script, the lighting and photography, the subject matter, the impeccable performance of every actor and actress in the cast make this not only a riveting motion picture but one of the most important works of art to ever make its way to the screen. For example, you as the viewer see Kane's first marriage deteriorate from honeymoon love to silence as seen from the breakfast table. They start out gazing at each other and speaking words of love. The idea that time is passing is shown when the scene fades out and then fades back in and you notice the appliances in the backround have become more modern and the hair style and clothes have changed, as well as their conversation. Words of love turn to chit chat, then bravado. This continues until finally they sit in silence at opposite ends of the table with Kane reading his newspaper. In the end it turns out that for all of Kane's wealth and riches he had never been happy since he was taken away from his mother when he was a young boy. This is a superb film from every aspect and the fact that over 60 years later it is still consistantly voted among the top 3 pictures of all time is a testament to the genius of child prodigy Orson Welles. The entire cast knew at the time that they were breaking new ground in film making and their performances mirror deep respect for their craft and also for Mr Welles.

Citizen Kane (1941) 5

Possibly my favorite movie. Most amazing about it is that it is Orson Welles' FIRST film. Astonishing depth and originality; I see new things every time I watch it. While William Randolph Hearst tried to suppress it, and claimed to hate it, it was probably more wounded pride than anything else: it is actually a quite compassionate view of his life and obsessions. Incredible film in every way.

Citizen Kane (1941) 5

A work of genius. Virtually re-invented movie making. The script, cinematography and acting are flawless, and the direction sparkles. Arguably the best film of all time.

One of the most important movies ever made. Any film fan could never get tired of watching it and could find something new to admire or learn about each time. An amazing work of art from the perfect cast of actors, to how the story was told, to the lighting to the terrific camera work.
