Classic. Does a thriller get any better?

I guess I missed the comic edge to this film as described by Irishgit. I first saw it when it came out on the big screen, and in those days it was a shocker and frankly scared the bejesus out of me. I suppose that by today's standards it's pretty tame, so young guys like Irish can spot the humor in it. Maybe I'll rent the DVD and try to look at it from a different perspective (also, I have to look for the black underwear!). Among other things, it really bothered me that Janet Leigh, who I thought was gorgeous, got bumped off. As far as trivia about this film, I had seen or heard the bit about the flushing toilet that Canada mentioned. Also, the blood in the shower scene was chocolate syrup.

Little known fact- Psycho was the film film to actually show a toilet. Although a little tamer by today's standards, Psycho was a shocking film when released. The grandfather of horror films. It is still a great film by Hitchcock.

A nasty, mordant work with a comic edge that most people miss. There are some delightful touches and images here (the black underwear, the eye, the stuffed animals) and solid performances all around. Brilliant camera work.

Ah yes, what a masterpiece this is. This blackest of black comedies (though some people amusingly call it a horror film) about the proprietor of the Bates Motel and his overprotective mother. When they pull Janet Leigh out of the shower, look hard and you'll see underwear on her. Brilliant score by Bernard Hermann, one of the most influential ever written.
