one of the best movies ever.

Overrated and empty. Not even a good movie, much less a masterpiece. I was shocked after having seen it. I was thinking "this movie was the great Taxi driver!??" Then we are in big trouble. One of the most overrated movies I've ever seen. Not to forget "bad". Typical example of "emperor's new clothes"

A nasty, disturbing, and sometimes horrific movie that ranks as one of the high water marks of American cinema. One of De Niro's best roles, full of psychotic angst and degeneration. In my view a must see movie, but not for the faint of heart.

A cinematic journey into Hell, via the combined genius of Scorcese and DeNiro. For those of today's generation who know DeNiro only as the actor in Analyze This or Hide and Seek and wonder how anyone can possibly think this is, or was, one of America's greatest actors, this is the movie to see. DeNiro delineates profound alienation, despair and escalating madness like no actor ever has, and he's never been better or more terrifyingly effective (for that matter, neither has Scorcese). Travis Bickle is the closest approximation of a Dostoevsky character ever to be presented on an American movie screen. Be forewarned, those who have been weaned on the feel-good cinema of people like Spielberg and Lucas...this is one depressing and caustic movie, the kind that never gets made anymore. Still, if you want to see 2 of the most formidable cinematic talents ever operating at the top of their game, this is the film to see.

Hypnotic. .. amazing. . .scary. DeNiro at the height of his powers and a young Jodi Foster at the beginning of hers. . .Sorcese's masterpiece. (Then again, there is 'Raging Bull').
