Cool features but crashed right after I installed it.

Fast, easy to use and renders everything you throw at it. Have been using it for over 5 years now, and continously look at other browsers to see what the alternative is. I always end up with Opera again.

Why Opera for Firefox users:

1. Installing it alongside Firefox gets rid of more than half of the top FF extensions you will find across the net. Speeding both Firefox and you from clicking several extensions wondering what they do until you see an itsy button in the corner somewhere or even installing toolbars thus cluttering your space. Suddenly it's fun to explore Firefox extensions again especially when you have to redownload Firefox again for some reason.

2. Session recovery still feels better on Opera than in Firefox. Worse, if you use Firefox 2, good luck trying to make your tab width small and if you use Firefox 1.5, good luck in having to constantly monitor the FF scene just to see when FF 1.5 becomes outdated or even when FF 3 brings in a whole new experience. Biggest problem with the different versions of FF: They're all too different from each other! and it's very difficult to make the new version look like the old version if you preferred it that way.

3. Not so with Opera! You can even make it look like the very first version of Opera. You also don't have to restart to apply skins. Can save multiple mouse and keyboard settings and have it apply as soon as you switch your preference in tools - > preference

4. Speaking of tools preference, the way it's layed out makes it easy to find all the options. Basically there are only two option settings you need to focus on Opera for most of the features of the browser: tools -> preferences and tools -> appearances. No more days of having to look for all the menus and options added by the Firefox extension and wondering what feature you misconfigured. Most extensions don't have this problem but some do, especially those who have vague descriptions.

5. Easier way to set up search in the address bar. With FF, you have to jump through many hoops just to do it. With Opera, you simply right click and there it is! Create search

6. Opera RSS feeds have a long way to go (but this is certainly no different with the way Firefox and it's extensions handle RSS feeds) but it's one of the least memory eating feedreaders out there including stand alone feedreaders. It'll take a while to check up on your feeds just like other feedreaders but even with a bulk of feeds subscribed, it won't eat up as much memory than other products.

Con: If you use many Google products, for some reason most of them don't work. From what I read, Opera can't do anything much about it and it's up to Google. In fact, besides Google, your biggest problem is that very few sites support Opera because of the lack of users compared to IE and FF but don't take my word for it (I'm certainly no expert). Ask more knowledgeable users at http://my.opera.com/community/ for the details as well as all the things that you might not know Opera can do.

Why Opera for IE users:

1. It's much more secure. (some claim the most secure browser currently) This includes every browser based around IE except for Maxthon which I read can use the Gecko engine.

If you haven't tried Opera, you don't know what your missing: Safer, faster, lighter, more customizable than anything out there. Give Opera a go and you too will be convinced.
Important note: There are reviews here that date from several years back. Know that the COMPLETE VERSION of Opera is now FREE and AD FREE and has been for years now! http://www.opera.com

If You can do without the many extensions available for Firefox then OPERA is the Browser to go for....it`s the fastest, although the Fox is catching up.....very secure & i`ve found it to be the most stable of the lot especially on older PC`s

The personal battle between Firefox and Opera has been going on for a while with me. Firefox has some options that I wish Opera had and vice versa. With both browsers expecting new version releases soon (Opera 9.0 and Firefox 2.0) it will be interesting to see who comes out on top this time around.

I tried out Operas new FREE version and I haven't stopped using it. The broswer is stable as a rock and has not crashed once in the 2 weeks I've used it. The deafult user interface is cluttered at first but it is very customizable and after downloading a streamilined skin and removing uneeded toolbars I've got it to take up minimal screen space. It also has an auto form fill "key" just press one button to fill in your username and passwords. It even has voice controlled browsing capability and can even read the text out for blind people or for people who are too lazy to read. It also uses very little system resources and it browses very fast. If there's one thing about this browser that could be improved is compatibility with certain websites but all non-IE browsers have this problem, thanks to MS.

*** Update*** So today is Opera's tenth anniversary and they're giving away the browser for free. Here's what you do: Go here: http://my.opera.com/community/party/reg.dml Type in your email address, and get a registration key. Copy the registration key. Then download the browser, register it, and paste your registration key. Presto, you have an ad free Opera browser - widely regarded as the best browser in the business. A $39 value. You can thank me later *** I'm not inclined to pay for a browser - not with so many good free options out there. Yes, Opera offers a free version, but it's plastered with ads. While Opera is by all accounts a fast, feature rich browser, until they can provide the ad free version at no charge, i see no reason to switch from Camino.

Switched to Opera after having my fill of Firefox, so far it's much faster and I like the interface, time will tell if I will pay for the software to get rid of the ad banner(s). Firefox is free, but remember the saying, you get what you pay for, the free version of Opera already works better then Firefox speedwise, don't know if paying for it will make it any better?

Tabbed Browsing Easy browsing through the tabs using keys '1' and 2 or with the mouse right button and wheel Mouse Gestures back, forward, minimise tab, create new tab, create duplicate tab, open link in new tab, open link in background tab so on and so forth, Inbuilt popup blocker Still able to blocks most popup Inbuilt Download manager Loading Images Ability not to load images per tab. done easily using the shift+i keys. Do it once more to view only the images that have been loaded so far. Fit to window Ability to fit a web page to a window using shift+F11. (Prevents horizontal panning) Saving Sessions Say that you have 50 tabs open (well. just imagine that u have them open;-D).For some reason you need to close opera can save this session by clicking File>sessions>save sessions. Next time you open opera u will have an option to reload this session and all 50 of ur pages will load on its own!!(Remember not 2 clear ur cache though)

I've just spent an interesting few days trying to get the Opera I purchased for USD 39 to perform acceptably. And when it didn't, I tried to avail myself of the Premium Support my USD 39 entitled me to. You see, I was laboring under the assumption that since Opera Software was a .com and charged money for their unencumbered, fully supported software, that I was not dealing with an open source, contributor staffed organization. Well excepting the money that changed hands, all other transactions were completely ala open-source-org. I dealt exclusively with one Lars Kleinschmidt, Technical Service Consultant, Opera Software. Now Mr. Kleinschmidt has a very straightforward approach to paid support. He never burdened either me or himself with queries about my system or environment. He never embarrassed me with questions about my level of expertise. He never even bothered to clutter my email with lengthy explanations or possible solutions. His approach was, as I said, straightforward. He simply referred me to FAQ links, or tersely committed non-committal. At one point in my queries to understand how to get certain basic functionalities from the mail included in Opera (which, btw, are often supplied by unsupported 3rd party software), he informed me that if I didn't like the mail in Opera, I didn't have to use it! The last straw came when Opera would not recognize the Adobe plugin on my system, no matter what I tried, even the FAQ solutions didn't work. Despite all efforts, it still downloaded the pdf files (not temporarily as others do) and then opened Adobe and turned the system over to it. We went back an forth several times over this. I even tried downloading other browsers to illustrate that they either would or would not recognize the plugin. They did. And, I might add, without having to go through the gyrations the FAQ from Opera proposed. His final query was, well was I interested in discussing technical issues or solving my problem. I informed him that my problem was solved. I had trash canned Opera! I requested a refund, but haven't heard anything. Based on the technical support, I don't envision the sales support to be of any higher calibre, and I don't expect to ever see my USD 39 again.

yes, it is not free. but in rest, i think it is the best. firefox had the tabs all right, but in opera they are implemented for years. in terms of usability, u can really configure it in every way you want + that opera has many many new things. i read in the magasines firefox reviews, that it identifies itself as ie or opera or netscape (that is news), but opera had it for years.. eeeh, whatever. nevertheless, firefox is very good

It loads fast and works great. Plus, it has a really useful zoom feature to print hardcopies any size you want 'em. For example, i like to save paper and cram all the words onto one page... but some of my relatives don't see so well in their golden years, so for them i zoom in to make the text extra big. So one printed page document for me might be 6 pages for Grand-Dad (double-sided, of course).

This is one of the browsers that I've been using before I like it but some how, you need to pay for it to get rid of the ads but its a great software block pop-ups and tabbed view for websites.

A) I am not paying for another browser when I payed for IE when I bought my overpriced OS. B) I severely hate spyware and adware, so I wouldn't ever touch the free version.

Some serious w3 standard issues - Javascript compatibility is not perfect. Provides nice innovative features, but still not first. Most features (except for the mouse strokes) are covered in Firebird - check it out instead!
