Charlie Chaplin 4

Chaplains physical comedy was so brilliantly executed that it is still funny, long after most of the charm wore off of lesser "slapstick".I don't think anyone has ever been able to equal him in that respect.

Charlie Chaplin 4

A pioneer of the cinema in its first couple of decades, and the movie business, founding an artist lead studio - United Artists - with Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford. However he was late in accepting the advance of the state of the art as it reached the age of sound and later colour. His early comedies are dated to the silent slap stick era, but his best work stands up for its storytelling and heart.

Modern Times is regarded as one of the greats of all time. I remember seeing The Great Dictator when it was theatrically re-released in the 70's and being pretty moved by it when I was 11 or 12. I know it gets a mixed critical reception generally, but it struck me pretty deep as a kid.

Although from what I understand he led a troubled life, he was very talented, and I think he came out with work that was way ahead of its time. I can think of one in particular that was made about 74 years ago, but the subject matter was more fitting for today than what one would have thought. Like the scene with the big screen in the bathroom showing the boss shouting at Charlie to get back to work.

By the way, the film I'm talking about is "Modern Times", which I think is one of his best works.
