Coolest music video of the whole decade.

Just the kind of 80s tune that really makes me cringe.

"Take On Me" was a Euro-pop single that was essentially driven by the song's innovative video that featured a mixture of film and animation. The track is benign enough, but it remains a signature song and video of that classic MTV era. Though a-ha subsequently charted in the U.S. once more and (as another comment noted) recorded a theme song for the Bond film "The Living Daylights," "Take On Me" was the biggie, spending 15 weeks on the pop charts in 1985 (peaking at #1). The single is still remembered as evidenced by the recent covers by Ska King Crab, Cap'n Jazz, MxPx, and Reel Big Fish. Notwithstanding the second chart appearance, VH1 ranks Take On Me #8 on its list of the greatest one hit wonders. Nevertheless, with all that said, the song isn't all that special (though catchy), resulting in a 3 star rating for this list.

I loved this song and the music video is one of the best ever, the song never gets old.

A really good song, but I prefer the cover version that came out several years ago by Reel Big Fish.

This was another great one from a true one-hit wonder band (although a-ha did a rather forgettable theme song for one of the James Bond movies). The opening of the song was real catchy and bouncy. During its day (1985/1986), I used to own a rather sleek and expensive kevlar-composite 1-man racing shell. Whenever I raced in a regatta, this goofy tune always came through my head at the start of the race (wonder if the video with the race car driver had something to do with that). By the end of the race, I was usually mired in last place and funeral dirges would be playing in my head.

Crap, like Duran Duran but much worse. If I'm going to listen to Norwegian bands they'd better be all done up in viking gear and wearing black and white face paint, and screaming about Satan. Like Immortal or Emperor, or Darkthrone.

Great song, and it went straight to #1 on the Billboard charts. I'm seriously thinking about downloading the ringtone for this song into my cell phone. LOL.

Probably the most well-known song ever originated from Norway, makes me a little proud. ;) And such a great animated video clip! :)
