Goofy video, cool song(complete with flute). The guys from down under had quite a run in the early 80's. Remember, they were "Best New Artist" in 1983.

Men At Work were a great infectious fun band that probably were hurt by over-exposure on radio. Colin Hay, their principle songwriter is still turning out nice simple heartfelt albums. It's a Vegamite sandwich. Vegamite is sandwhich spread popular down under and available here if you look around.
trebon1038 07/03/2006
This song was a lot of fun...by the way what is a yosamite or whatever sandwich!!!

I always liked to watch the video, and still do!
kingguiness 01/24/2006
This song is brilliant. Men At Work were a welcome change of pace in the early 80's. Business As Usual and their other follow up album Cargo were superb! Sadly they tapered off and split up. Colin Hay is an extremely talented artist. He has made several solo albums that are mostly very good and he gets no credit. I saw him play Down Under live on acoustic guitar and it was great.

A neat sound from a cool pop band. But like most music like it, it had a very dated flavor and therefore did not pass the test of time. Musicians need to know that you put strange stuff like flutes and weird synth in your stuff, it will be different but wont last. Stick to the basics. Guitar, bass, drums and good vocals/harmonies. Aerosmith, The Stones, today, STP, 3 Doors Down and Audio slave. Thats the kind of music with charchter that lasts. Too many Effects, bells and whistles and samples are all for the birds most of the time.
zuchinibut 10/27/2005
Typical 80's song. Silly...didn't seem to make much sense, and all about having fun.
Gentle Jude 02/14/2005
This is a typical Australian stereotype song. It is OK, but not great. It has an element of power to it (women glow and men shunder, can't you hear their thunder.) (Sorry if I havn't gotten the words 100%.)
wzup 10/24/2004
This is the best song ever!
lukskywlkr. 01/31/2004
My friends and I wore this thing out. We couldn't get enough of it. I have it on cd, but I like to get out the old 45 sometimes so I can hear the pops and hisses. Brings back great high school memories. Wonder what that band is doing now? They sure faded out fast.
VirileVagabond 11/22/2003
In many ways, one can trace the origins of the 1980's Australian craze to Down Under (and its companion single Who Can It Be Now?), both released on the 1982 full-length Business As Usual by Men At Work. Both singles are prime new wave songs which helped defined the era and classic MTV. The lasting appeal of this song is evidenced by the numerous covers, including those by Nothing Cool, Kingston Reggae Sound Machine, Palolo, and M.A.N. Down Under charted in the U.S. for 19 weeks in 1982-83, peaking at #1 for 4 of those weeks.

Have you ever tried vegemite? It tastes like you're sucking on a vitamin. Yuck.
