I like this song, and it didn't age as poorly as many of the other songs of the 80's, which is a huge plus. I thought it was an early 90's song, too, as one reviewer noted, but per Wikipedia my memory is clouded and it was actually released on late 1989.

The movie Jerry Maguire with Tom Cruise ruined the song Free Fallin' for me. That scene in the movie after he breaks up with his girlfriend and he is driving to this song playing on the radio and he is all pounding the steering wheel with his hands with a big goofy smile on his face. Every time I hear this song now that is all I can think of. Thanks a lot Tom Cruise.

The protagonist in this song feels guilty about dumping in his girl-friend and now feels that he's nowhere, free-falling. I liked the video, too.

Always hated Tom Petty. I feel like passing him a kleenex so he can blow his nose and clear the phleghm out of hsi throat. Wayyy too nasally to have gotten popular.
