Cheezy ripoff of Suicide... (and the corporation apparently doesn't want you to hear it).

2.5: I'd search for something better on the radio, but if there was nothing else good on, I'd flip back to it.

If it was the nº1 in big part of the planet, it must be because is a great song. I think there are a lot of better songs, but this is one of the firsts songs that came to my mind if I think in 80's music.

Another great fun song, I know this was kinda the birth of that weak-ass lame-o music called techno, but this was done well

One more totally 80's band. Very few instruments and plenty of eye make-up. Maybe a one-hit wonder, can't recall anything else they did.

In essence, this song finally went to #1 in the U.S. this year, in the form of a generous samples which make up the structure of Rhianna's "S.O.S." hit. "S.O.S." proves that "Tainted Love" has a timeless catchiness to it, even as it waters the original down by replacing the lyrics and vocals with a less interesting ones.
kingguiness 07/26/2006
One of the best covers ever. Very intoxicating. This album is pretty good also. It stood out amongst the other New Wave synth music at the time. The song Frustration is awesome!
VirileVagabond 07/16/2006
As a general rule I would not rate any cover as five stars, but every rule has exceptions. This is one of them. The earliest version of "Tainted Love" is by soul singer Gloria Jones in the mid 1960's, but as Aretha Franklin took "Respect" (written and originally performed by Otis Redding) and made it hers, Soft Cell now owns this song. The duo's version was and remains not only a great song, but it is also instantly recognizable to people of several generations, usually after just two notes. The song is also important in that it was an early and important synth-pop/electronic entry into the mainstream music charts, spending 15 weeks on the U.S. charts in 1982 (peaking at #8), which injected some passion into what some considered a cold musical genre. The influence of this single is also evidenced by the number and diversity of the artists who have covered the song since Soft Cell, for instance Atrocity, Marilyn Manson, Shades Apart (highly recommended), Coil, and Tentacion (Spanish).

I really believed his anger when he was singing this song. An excellent piece of techno music. I could not believe it when I found out that this was actually a remake of an R&B song from the 1960s.
agarguest 03/25/2004
This is one of the work songs of all time. It's just awful.
lukskywlkr. 08/04/2003
Absolutely none of my friends liked this song, but I didn't give a crap, because I loved it. I never get tired of hearing it even today.
