This song came our in the 70's. I like it just fine. It shouldn't be on the list.

I was always looking for the logical way, dosen't mean it helped get me home, but yeah, it almost sounds a little 70's. But in the 70's things didn't have a explanation, they just were, remember the 80's we were getting a little political. Know we expected an explanation, and if we didn't like it there was going to be a little controversy.

A song I've always enjoyed, which even has a lead sax break... and there was an -ahem- 'interesting' techno cover of it recently as well...

Released on Supertramp's full-length effort "Breakfast In America" (1979), "The Logical Song" isn't technically an 80's song (as other comments have noted); however, I suppose the single was still getting substantial airplay in 1980. The song is a bouncy tune concerning innocence lost that is instantly recognizable as Supertramp. Nevertheless, as I am rating these songs as compared to the other true Big 80's singles on this list, "The Logical Song" only merits three stars notwithstanding that it's a good and rather unique song. Moreover, this single is not as good as the other two big tracks off of "Breakfast", namely "Goodbye Stranger" and (less so) "Take The Long Way Home", as well as some of the deeper cuts. "The Logical Song" charted in the U.S. for 13 weeks in 1979, peaking at #6, and has been covered by the likes of Jellyfish and At Vance (the latter being a recommended metal version).

Always liked this one. I taught myself how to play it on the piano when it first became popular. (And yeah, the other reviewers are right; this is from '79, not the '80s--but what the hey. It's still a great song.)

A very mediocre song.
