I had a double attraction to this movie. My dad, who is now 95, was in Patton's 3rd Army from the St. Lo breakout to the end of the War in Czechoslovakia. He saw "the Old Man." as troops called the commander, speak a couple of times. In those days, commanders would often address the troops. Dad says that Scott hit the nail on the head.
If nothing else happened in the flick, the opening speech in front of the flag was absolutely breathtaking!

Patton was an intriguing figure. Difficult to really know for too many reasons to list here.Scott (Hollywood's true to life grumpy old man) was born for this role. There isn't a moment when I'm not convinced. Easy five. Also scores points for one of the coolest intros ever.

Thoroughly deserving. For some reason, this admittedly incredible role unfortunately overshadows his many other splendid roles- he's respected but still usually underrated by many. Scott is one of those rare actors who is essentially good in every part he plays, even if the movie itself is subpar, he makes it at the very least worthy of investigation.

George's slap in the face to Oscar doesn't diminish His talent.

Even though he made Patton look like more of a camera loving star then he actually was, and I didn't really enjoy the movie, I still think that Scott carried this film to the end, very deserving.
