Released as a single in 1979, Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) continues Benny and Björn's trend away from pure Europop, dance music and towards a more adult contemporary sound. Though the single failed to break the top 40 in the U.S., the songwriting and performance are up to ABBA standards, and they will perfect the change later with singles like The Winner Takes It All. The end result is that the song is better when covered by artists who commit to one direction or another, for instance the covers by Erasure, Leather Nun, Motor Industries, and Abbacadabra.
