They should be categorized as comedy. They are so bad that they make me laugh! People travelling to fake South American countries to save kidnapped relatives during a revolution, someone had a secret sibling who is now blackmailing them. Pulleeeez....

The only time I need soaps is when I'm cleanning.

I used to get hooked as a kid when I was very sick and had to stay home for a few days. The problem with soaps is that they rarely resolve any of the plots. They just sort of reach a crescendo, then move on to other things.

I really liked Days. It was the one soap that I have kept up with over the years. But it is no longer entertaining. I just read the spoiler on Bo & Hope's son, Zack. That is a horrible story line. I can't bear to watch it. Passions is just plain silly and Days is too depressing. It is no longer worth the tivo space. When things get better, someone please post so I can watch again.

I don't have a clue about how good or bad this show is. But my wife and one of my daughters have been watching it for years, so obviously they like it. My daughter won a contest years ago and went to a cast party and met them all. She had a great time and still talks about how nice everyone treated her. I'm rating this strictly on their opinion of the soap. I wouldn't be caught dead watching one these shows.

Let's face it - Soaps blow by their very nature. For writing and depth you would be better off watching home movies produced by a chimp. As anyone who has ever watched more than two episodes of any given Soap can tell you, they are created to appeal to you on a very base level and thats about it. Lusty little stories about picturesque little towns full of impossibly beautiful people, who never really date but are always involved with someone, are mostly rich but never work, and are nearly always some kind of professional but never take time out between the ages of 18 and 25 to go to college. Fantasyland. Days is one dopey soap I've watched more recently thanks (or no thanks) to SoapNet. Ive noticed that the longer I watch the more inane it seems until finally I realized Soaps are not meant to be watched as you would a movie. If you do, you run the risk of seeing all the storyline, character development and logic flaws in one ugly lump sum. Pretty daunting and worthy of making you doubt your own IQ as a viewer/consumer. No, these wacky little diversions fall into the category of things you tune into for a few laughs or, at the very least, just for a little room noise. You might want to check in for a few secs every now and then but never attempt to sort out a logical storyline and definitely never stick around long enough to question a characters motivation. Drifting along dreamily will soften the effect, lessen the repetitive silliness and maybe provide a few laughs in the process. With luck, youll be able to sense when something actually is going to happen. Last night for instance, involved a key moment when one brave soul (Marlena) after having been held captive for weeks on a strange island with many of her closest friends, dared step forward and approach the big desk chair after only 3 days of an entire roomful of people just assuming who was sitting in it. As Marlena flips the chair around the crowd, expecting to see the evil Stefano, let out a collective :::gasp::: as they are greeted with a rotting corpse worthy of a date with Norman Bates mom. Scary, hilarious, bizarre and the only scene worth my while in the past 3 weeks.

i agree with soapaholic. i think she's an okay actress but i think she should watch some previous episodes with the old belle to get more relaxed with the part. i think this show is pretty good anyhow. oOoXo ..::melody::..

I love the show, but I can't stand the new Belle. She is a terrible actress, and just doesn't fit the part at all.

For it's target audience, I'm sure it's great. Heck, I even know guys who like that particular one.

Days of our lives- lost it when the twins fell out from a pod in the sky. The bold and the beautiful-suspense keeps on coming, especially with Brooke-who else is going to get her pregnant? The young and the restless- keeps getting better!!!

1. Hate that all the good people have been killed and that more are going to die. Is saving a few dollars really worth losing viewers? 2. Take that stupid woman, Bonnie, off the program. Her behavior is ludicrous and unbelievable. 3. What makes you think anybody would believe what Marlena is trying to make John believe! The audience isn't stupid.

I admit I watched a few when I was in high school and college, but seriously, who watches soap operas anymore? I thing the whole genre and society has changed. Soap operas hit their heydey at a time maybe 30 years ago when many women did not work and stayed home with their families. I'd feel like such a slob if I was laying on the couch in the middle of the afternoon watching soap operas, get a life losers.

All soaps are bad, and they seem to recycle the same plotlines over and over. Nobody is ever pregnant with their husband's child-just doesn't happen. And everybody always looks perfect and fully made up.
pip_squeak 01/03/2004
The entire soap genre wins this contest hands down.

Passions is ten times as worse.

My impression of soap operas: OH NOOOO! My husband's cheating on me with my sister's boyfriend's hairdresser and my cat got run over and my grandmother got a sex change and I've got so many problems! Eeek! I must go commit suicide by swallowing goldfish and choke to death! Hmm....What lifeform just enjoyed that whole sentence?

Ugh, I hate soap operas.
