As an adult, I acknowledge now that "In Search Of..." wasn't exactly strong science and analysis (notwithstanding the show's disclaimer), but I loved this series growing up. Leonard Nimoy worked well as a host (adding some science fiction credibility of all things), and the music added a mysterious aura. This show introduced me to some of the world's enduring mysteries (e.g. UFOs, Bigfoot, Loch Ness Monster) and educated me on how some fictional characters are based on historical people (e.g. Dracula). The History Channel reran "In Search Of..." some years back, and it really brought back some nice memories. In many ways, it's shows like this that evidences that sometimes science gets it wrong. (Remember, the scientific community was stating that the Earth was cooling back in the 70's.)

This was the only thing on that delt with real paranormal/unsolved mysteries which was a welcome change to all the unreal psychic shows of the day. Leonard Nemoy was a great choice for the host.

Was great fun in its time and still fun to watch. The moog-synth background music and the grainy 70's stock film (as opposed to today's use of sharp video) really set a spooky mood on some episodes. True, there are some inaccuracies, but keep in mind this show aired from 1976-1982. We know a lot more now in the 21st century and it is easy to see these inaccuracies in hindsight. Some of the episodes still hold up. The dated episodes are still fun to watch as a time capsule from 76-82. ps: the comment regarding only a few episodes is inaccurate as about 150 episodes were produced. Maybe the comment is about the 2003 version hosted by Mitch Pillegi which was nowhere as good as the original.

I guess there aren't that many mysteries in the world cuz this show lost steam after a few episodes. The first shows were good, though.
